To protect what’s mine

    Chapter 43 Amalie

Walking through the pack was surreal. Nothing had changed, yet at the same time, everything had changed, Seven years had passed since I wasst allowed to walk the pack. The twins, James, and Rose walked with me as I hobbled my way through the streets, | really wished that I had taken Dr. William’s, Uncle Will, he had asked me to call him, offer to dive his car back to their house.

I had refused. The twins said that the house was only three blocks away. Uncle Will brought his car, as the hospital did not have an ambnce and so his SUV was used to transport people to and from the hospital. He took it daily just so his vehicle would be ready

    in case of an emergency.

I had wanted to spend more time outside waking. Now I was wishing I hadn’t been so stubborn. I was about to let out a sigh when I was picked up. I let out a squawk, dropped my crutches, and wrapped my arms around Cal’s neck.

“I was going to start growling if you let out another sigh,” he huffed at me.

I smiled and snuggled my face into his neck.

Jamesughed as he picked up my crutches and continued to follow us.

“Papa silly!” Rose whispered loudly to Mark.

“Papa?” Mark asked as he turned his head slightly to look at Rose, who was riding, piggyback style, on his back.

“Daddy,” she says happily as she pats Mark on the shoulder. She then turns and points at Cal and states, “Papa!”

“Aw, and you thought you were left out,” Mark teases from up ahead. I see that he is pleased that Rose considers Cal her dad too. I could feel Mark’s guilt that was already considered her dad and Cal wasn’t.

Cal lets out a soft growl at is younger twin.

Iugh at the two. It’s nice to feel normal, even if it’s for a moment.

“We big family now,” Rose continues on happily.

“That we are,” I smile up at Cal.

He smiles softly down to me.

“Alright, break up the love fest. I was promised Mike’s spaghetti and I’m not missing that!” Jamès says as he starts speed walking toward Uncle Mike and Uncle Will’s house.

    “Sagetti!” Rose cheers.

“Spaghetti,” Mark agrees and takes off running, Rose bouncing on his back. “We shall eat all the garlic bread, and you will not get

    any!”

“We share with mommy!” Rose cheers happily.

“I guess I can share one of your pieces,” he states before they turn the corner and are out of sight.

“I wish he would grow up sometimes,” Cal huffs to me.

“No you don’t. You love him just the way he is,” Iugh as Cal continues towards his uncles‘ at the same pace.

“You’re right,” he smiles at me.

    Chapter 43 Amalie

We make it home a few minutester. James must have been waiting for us at the door, because he opens the front done for en 23 we step onto the porch.

I ignore the front porch for now. If I make Cal stop so I can admire it, we’ll never get inside. A porch swing and rocking chairs. Perfect setting to read the day away or cuddle time. Goddess, I was never going to want to leave.

He carries me inside and to the dining room. Cal ces me in a chair at the table. Before he is able to slide my chair in, Rose climbs up and sits on myp for dinner. I hug her close. She hasn’t stopped sitting in someone’sp in the time I was in mya. I was slightly scared that she had stopped sitting inps and wanted her own chair. It shouldn’t have scared me, but it did.

It meant my baby was growing up. I don’t think I could have handled it right now. To much change, too fast. It would have been a milestone that I would have missed.

“You alright darling?” Mark asks as he sets a te down in front of Rose and 1.

    “Yea, I’m fine,” I dismiss.

“You sure?” Mark tries to push.

“Yes, I’m fine. It was a silly thought that didn’te true,” I assure him.

He nods his head and kisses my forehead. Mark leaves to fill his own te. Cales back with his te and another te. Uncle Mike wheels himself in and parks himself beside me. He gives me a wink and grabs the extra te Cal had brought into the dining room. Cal gives his uncle look before he takes a bite of his food.

Markes back into the room and stops. “What the! Come on, this isn’t fair!” Mark pouts as he if forces to sit beside James on the other side of the table.

Snooze you loose,” Uncle Mike smirks as he continues to eat.

“I fill my mate and pup’s te, and suddenly I loose,” he mutters tò himself.

“So, where is my mate?” Uncle Mike asks, as he changes topics.

“He should be home soon. He needed to finish up with Gretchen and then he was </bing home,” Cal tells him.

“What happened to Gretchen?” Mike demands as he looks at us all.

“An alpha from the council came and tried to kidnap Rose. She tried to stop him, and he broke her wrist,” Cal says, trying to keep the anger out of his voice.

“You kicked his ass right?” Mike demanded.

“He was stripped of his title and pack,” Mark growls. “There was nothing else we could do. He released Rose before we got there and wasn’t trying to hurt her.”

“If he had been a trespassing alpha, we could have done something. But because he came here as part of the council,” James sighed. I knew he was just as upset as the twins.

“I hate thosews,” Mike growled. “They protect the wrong people.”

“I’m home!” Uncle Will shouted as he entered the house, disrupting the negative energy.
