Sienna’s POV
As Liam looked down, I observed his face with a tightening of his jaw and he had stray hair. He was a softly glowing young man who had been exposed to warm light from themp above the table. I hadn’t had the chance to really see him like this before. He was unlike him, but still had a certain demeanor. He remained the same stubborn man I knew until now, but with a gentle and quiet expression.
While using his fork, Noah began to shape spaghetti into small letters on his te.
He eximed, “Mommy, this letter is the N!”
“Don’t try to mess around with your food, okay?” I replied. “Thanks, that’s great.”
He sped away and said, “Just briefly,” staring at me with his big pleading eyes.
Liam chuckled softly beside him.
“This time, we can pardon him,” he said in a lowly voice. He added, “The chef needs some entertainment after his hard work in the kitchen.”
I gave him a sharp look but couldn’t resist chuckling. “You’re ruining him. What did
Liam shrugged off the situation. “A little bit. He earned it today.”
you think?”
While speaking, Noah awoke and ced his head on his arm. I observed that he was tired. His first day at school likely drew him out, as did the excitement of cooking earlier. After grabbing him his ss, I left behind his almost empty te.
“That’s enough, sweetheart. You’ll immediately go to sleep after this.”
Nodding adrift, the young boy’s eyes were almost closed. “Ok, Mommy,” he whispered softly.
I was given a tender look by Liam. “I’ll help clean up the table.”
But I waited. “You’re tired after work.”
He shook his head and expressed, “I want to assist. It seems like a long time has passed since west did this effortless task.”
I didn’t reply. The tes were being gathered by his hands in slow but steady motion, which I observed. The experience was odd, not necessarily in a negative manner, but more of resembling an undercurrent of stillness after being gone for some time.
Running water from the sink was heard. Noah was still sitting in his chair, almost dozing off. I went over to him and brushed his hair gently. He whispered something vague, possibly about school or the spaghetti earlier. What did he mean? I smiled faintly.
After leaving the kitchen, Liam spoke with a soft and firm voice. “I’ll handle this for you.”
We all headed back to the living room after having dinner. Noah enjoyed a cuddle with his preferred red robot on
the carpet while Liam and I settled on tea on our sofa. Noah’s quiet voice filled the air in our house as he recounted his first day at school.
“He’s been such a happy boy,” Liam said softly, looking at Noah.
Nodding, I did a nod. Perhaps he’s getting used to everything, including school, new friends, and habits.
Taking a more serious approach, Liam nced at me once again. “I acknowledge your presence.”
I paused, looking into my teacup. “Me?” I said.
ording to him, “Yes,” Siena, you appear moreposed.
Despite the challenges you’ve faced in recent months, your appearance has returned to normal.
I looked up, grimaced slightly and gazed at the window where my streetlight flickered. “Maybe it’s because I can breathe. As you turned to Noah, I saw him.”
I was almost unable to control Liam’s stare as he looked at me. He smiled and said, “I’m d you did.‘
We had a brief conversation, but it was warm and full of unreserved understanding.
The silence surrounded me as I leaped. Outside, the sound of crickets began to creep in as leaves brushed against the night sky. What an unusual start! The tablemp’s gentle glow illuminated Liam‘ Story, tracing the shadows running down his jawline. The presence of a sense of calmness that I had been missing for ages was felt.
Liam ced his cup on the table and leaned against the sofa. His silence was insignificant, but it only added to the warmth of the space. I came to the realization that a lot of the things I used to chase after were already present, and I was too tired to pursue them.
The sight that appeared to me was of Noah, who was sitting on the floor and constructing a tower out of wooden blocks with vibrant colors. He seemed very serious with a little tongue out as he tried to keep the top down. Like someone who foundfort in watching their child’s small world unfold, Liam looked at him with a faint smile.
I snoozed, taking in the beauty of the moment. Living in an environment filled with chaos, full of ambition and the constant need to prove my worth made it seem unusual. It was a challenge. I felt satisfied tonight despite the fact that I was alone with my two most beloved people. Not perfect, but enough.
“Thest time we sat like this, I can’t remember,” I finally replied.
Liam looked at his reflection and then smiled. “Not even me. You were always busy. So was I. Perhaps we wasted time trying toe up with excuses for not taking a break.”
His words made me think. We had been running for a long time, but maybe it was just his luck. Our path was gradually bing straight again, albeit with some degree of caution.
His hand was on the cushion of the sofa, barely touching mine. I was unsure of why my heart had suddenly increased in speed. I was still apprehensive about making the same mistakes again. Yet, there was a part of me that still wanted to believe that this time could be different.
Liam appeared to be watching me closely. Despite hisck of words, he looked back at Noah and then briefly
nced at him. Although his smile was delicate, I sensed a simr feeling of desire and optimism with some
fear.
Time passed slowly. A gentle ticking of the clock on the wall indicated the deepening night. As Noah rearranged his blocks, there was a faint hum in his ears and he could hear the sound of falling asleep. The sight of him with abination of love, gratitude, and ache was heart–rending, as I could see his growth in just one year.
