I take a sip of the amber liquid, enjoying the first sip much more than I did the first time I tried it. I sit on the loveseat, pulling my legs up underneath me. Rather than sit beside me, Christian sits across from me, pulling the chair up so he can sit closer. He stretches his legs out and puts his feet on the seat next to me.
“Do you want to tell me about your conversation with Councilman Johnathon?”
I go through it with him. I know he heard the things I said about him. I didn’t care that he heard what I said. Everything that I said about him was true.
“So, I was right. They do see this as a power position,” he says.
“He may have before the conversation, but he didn’t afterward, especially when I pointed out that the Academy has a sex ss.”
He grins, before he can hide it behind his ss.
“So, what now? We’ve found your parents‘ murderers and I feel confident that we found everyone. I’ve been sifting through the minds of the pack all afternoon and I haven’t felt anything off, have you?”
“No. I mean Violet kept her distance, but other than that, everything felt almost back to normal,” I tell him.
“I told Violet to keep her distance. I told her that she’s lucky she wasn’t implicated in the murder of Alpha Colin and if she had been, no one here would have done anything to protect her. I told her to get her shit together and if she says anything negative to or about you or Shane again, she’s out of the pack.”
“My hero,” I say, biting my lower lip.
His ss stops on the way to his mouth. “Are you flirting with me?”
“What if I am?” I ask, feeling bold.
He shakes his head and takes a drink, obviously using the time to get his thoughts together.
“Just because Councilman Johnathon made it seem that he’s okay with it, it doesn’t change

the fact that he was right about the power differential. Have you given any more thought to going to the Academy?” he asks, trying to change the subject.
I slide my feet out from under me and before he can pull his back, I wrap mine around his.
“I’m still thinking about it,” I say, then steer the conversation back to him and I.
“You heard what I said to Councilman Johnathon. I felt you in my mind. I told him that I would be honored to be mated to a man like you, Christian.”
“Yes, you mentioned how honorable I am,” he says, shifting in his chair.
“You are honorable. Being with me wouldn’t make you any less
so, Christian.”
He sighs. “Enya …”
“Give me one good reason why we can’t be together, Christian.”
“I’ll give you two. First, I AM in power position, Enya. I’m your guardian. Second, I’m here for nearly two more years. If you don’t go to the Academy, you’re here for at least nine more months. If you do, you’re here for three, and either way, we don’t know if you’ll find your mate immediately after you turn eighteen. What if things don’t work out between us? That makes things very difficult for both us and we have a long time to live and work together. Or worse, what if your mate is a member of this pack and they know that you and I have been together…”
“We would be discreet,” I interrupt him.
