“Yeah, that’s fine. As long as things remain … civil,” he finally says.
“Have things been uncivil?” Alpha James asks, looking between Councilman Johnathon and Shane.
“Alpha Shane misunderstood the reason behind my interview of him and Alpha Enya.”
“Interesting that both my sister and I had the same ‘misunderstanding‘,” he says.
“Then perhaps I should say here, now, in front of you and other witnesses, what I intended to say to Alpha Christian in private,” he says, and my stomach clenches. I have no idea what he asked Enya and Shane, but I know they didn’t like the questions.
He turns and looks at me. “Alpha Christian, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure that you were mature enough to handle this type of assignment,” he begins, and Alpha James snorts. Councilman Johnathon ignores him.
“Your wards have made it very clear that you have made a significant impact on them in a very short amount of time. Obviously, you also uncovered the betrayal of the pack and the murder of an Alpha. I wanted to thank you for your hard work and your diligence to this pack and to the young Alphas while they work through their grief and while Alpha Shane takes his ce in this pack. The bond that you have created with the young Alphas, the loyalty that
you
have developed here, is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I would like to apologize, on behalf of the council, for not recognizing the value that you would bring this pack and these two individuals in particr. I do hope that we can work together in the future when your tenure here is done.”
The councilman just apologized to me? I’m pretty sure that’s unheard of.
“Thank you,
Councilman. I appreciate the kind words. I’m d to know that Shane and Enya feel that my being here is a benefit to them and their pack,” I say.
“Indeed, it is. I’ll let the others know that we’ll be leaving after lunch. Thank you again for your hospitality. As soon as the vans arrive, we will get the individuals responsible for the murder of Alpha Colin out of here and let you and the pack get back to business as usual.”
I nod and show Councilman Johnathon to the door. When he’s gone, I look at Shane.

“What the hell happened during your interview?”
Enva
‘Enya, the council is staying for lunch, then they will be leaving. They have everything they need to prosecute Dorian and the others,‘ Christian says in the mind link.
‘Good. Good riddance,‘ I
say.
‘I want to speak with you tonight about your conversation with Councilman Johnathon. Both you and Shane seemed pretty upset afterward, and I want to make sure there is no residual issue that we need to discuss.”
‘If they’re leaving, I’ll be fine.‘
Christian holds the link open, so I wait.
‘The council is important, Enya. You may not have liked what they had to say
‘I didn’t,‘ I growl.
‘Okay, but they are a part of every werewolf’s life. Getting along with them is important. So, let’s n to chat tonight after they’re gone.‘
‘Whiskey talk?‘ I ask, hoping for another evening likest night.
‘Yes. I’ll see if Shane and Sebi want to join us.‘
‘Perfect.‘
Well, it’s almost perfect. It would be more perfect if Shane and Sebi had things to do other than talk with us. But I’ll take time with Christian over not having time with Christian.
“Hey, do you need any help?” Sebastiana asks, walking up.
