Alpha James attacks again and it’s all I can do to stay on my feet. For an older man, Alpha James is fast. Really fast. And strong. There’s a reason he was an instructor for as long as he
was.
He gets in several hits before I see his left arm begin to droop. As soon as it does, I send my own fist straight to his chin.
This time he steps back, holding his chin. “Damn, young Alpha! I may have toe see you spar against Alpha Dane. You’re going to make him earn his pay next semester,” he says, shifting his jaw around.
“Enya hasn’t decided to go to the Academy yet, Alpha,” Christian says to him.
He stops, tilting his head to look at me.
“You want to tell me why a woman who is as fast and strong as you isn’t nning to go to the Academy?”
Christian
I know I’m being overprotective of Enya. She is a strong Alpha female, but I also know that she’s going through a lot and she’s vulnerable right now. That’s bringing out my need to protect her more.
“We’re talking about it,” I say to Alpha James. I don’t want anyone pressuring Enya to go to the Academy.
“Actually Alpha, Shane and I were just talking about thisst night. Our parents were not big proponents of the Academy, I guess. It was never brought to me as an option and even Shane thinks that if he wasn’t the Alpha heir, it wouldn’t have been brought up to him either.”
“I wonder why. I’m guessing your father didn’t make it onto the leaderboard,” he says, looking at me.
“No, he didn’t,” I say. I looked. I had the same question about theirck of interest in sending their children to the Academy. Even Alpha Colin’sck of mentoring with this son is different than what I’ve experienced in my own life and seen in my friends‘ lives. Our parents

have mentored us to be the best Alphas we could possibly be, even if we weren’t taking over a pack, since I can remember.
“My mother trained me to be a Luna and until Christian came along, I didn’t ever consider any other option for my life,” Enya tells him as we walk toward the packhouse.
“Well, there are many other possibilities for the life you might have,” he tells her.
“That’s what I’m learning. Sebastiana made some good points, like what if my mate isn’t a first son? Then what? My skills as a Luna will be worthless.”
??
“Being a Luna is very important, you’ll never hear me say otherwise. But you need to be prepared if life sends you in another direction. You don’t have very long to decide, young Alpha. Keep your options open and if you ever want to talk about it, I’m happy to tell you everything you want to know. I’m sure Seb would too,” he says.
“Thank you, Alpha,” she says. Alpha James pulls her into a side hug.
Just like yesterday, she leans into the hug as if craving the love she’s missing from her father. I’m thankful that she feelsfortable enough with Alpha James to ept hisfort and
reassurance.
“I need to speak to Christian. Will you save me a seat? I can start giving you a rundown of all the fantastic reasons to you go to the Academy,” he says.
