    “Stable.” Nurse Laura says.


    Judith’s eyes flutter open.


    “Alpha Enya,” she says, her words slurring.


    “Why does she sound drugged?” I ask, instantly alert as I rush to her bedside.


    “Wolfsbane is painful, Alpha. Dr. Charles wanted to sedate her so her wolf can heal faster.


    I rush out of the room. “Alpha Sebastian!” I call out.


    He rushes over and I pull him into the room.


    “What do you know about wolfsbane? They’ve sedated Judith. Is that safe? Is that proper protocol?” I ask him, worried that we might lose another pack member.


    “We have medical staff here. Let’s ask them. Laura do not leave,” he says to her, his voice deadly serious.

    Alpha Sebastian steps out and Laura looks at me. “Alpha, I swear, I just did what Dr. Charles said to do. I’ve done nothing else,” she says, looking scared.


    “Then you have nothing to worry about,” I say.


    A momentter, Sebastianes back in with one of the medical examiners. She immediately assesses Judith, looking her over, checking her vital signs, and reviewing her medical chart. She asks Nurse Laura what she’s doing, what Judith has been given, and what Dr. Charles has ordered for treatment.

    I nod, finally feeling more rxed. “Laura, everything goes through… I’m sorry, I don’t know your name,” I say.


    “I’m Dr. Nina, Alpha.”

    “Yes, Alpha.”


    Once Dr. Nina leaves, I check on Judith once more, thanking Laura for her hard work and then I step outside of the room.


    “Christian had breakfast sent over. Why don’t you go eat something. You did well in there, advocating for your pack member, but you need to eat,” Alpha Sebastian says.


    “Thank you, Alpha.”


    “There’s no need to thank me. I’m here to help,” he says, leading me to a table where Sebastiana is already eating.


    “Hey girlfriend. Come keep mepany,” she says, grinning up at me.


    “How’s it going?” I ask her as I sit and grab a tray of food. I begin eating and almost immediately I start to feel better.


    “Good. The investigators seem happy with everything we’re giving them.


    “Can I ask you something?”


    “You can ask me anything,” Sebastiana says, popping a piece of fruit into her mouth.


    “How does your family know all these people? I mean, you and your mom knew two of the investigators. They seemed like family.”
