There’s a shift that’s happened between me and Sebastian. I can feel it in the way we are together. Everything between us feels more intimate, more connected. At least, it does on my end. “Yeah, I could do that. I know that his birthday is during the week between semesters, so I could go and still get back in time to ride the Train back to the Academy,” I tell her.

I’d never considered that I’d lead a pack. That was always Dane‘ s calling, but something about Haley’s words make my heart constrict. It means more to me that I ever thought it would to hear someone say that.
“Thank you, Haley,” I say.
“Hey… uh, am I interrupting?” Tyler asks, walking up and giving Haley a concerned look.
Haley gives an embarrassedugh and wipes her cheeks again. “I told Christina about what we’ve been talking about,” she tells him.
“Ah. And what does Alpha Christina say about that?” he asks, ncing at me before turning his attention back to Haley. He’s asking her, not me

He pulls her into his arms, holding her tightly and kissing the top- <b>of </b>her head before looking at me. “Thank you. That means a lot <b>to </b>both of us.”
“You know it’s a risk, right? For her more than you,” I tell him.
He nods. “I really just don’t see how I could love anyone more than I love this woman,” he says, smiling down at her and using his thumb to gently wipe away more tears.
I can see that he does love her, totally andpletely. But I also know that the mate bond is very powerful and what he feels for Haley now may notpare to what he feels for his fated mate if that’s not her.
“I’ll let you two talk,” I say, heading back inside to get ready forter.
Everyone is already at dinner when I get back and I see
Sebastian giving me a curious look. I wave at everyone then head upstairs to shower.
Thoughts of Haley and Tyler and falling in love fill my head as I think about how I’m in a very simr situation to Haley. My Alpha isn’t a young Alpha though. The Alpha I’ve fallen in love with is a widow, someone who had that amazing bond. I’m not sure I can everpete with that, or that I would ever be enough to fill that void in Sebastian’s heart. And maybe I’m not meant to, maybe no one can. But I wouldn’t want to always wonder if I was second best in his mind and his heart. I know he’s struggling with guilt over his feelings for me, but that. doesn’t change that I want to be number one in someone’s life.
