Wife Back 8

Jessica had always thought about adopting a child, thinking that maybe then Chris might stay home to focus on the child.

Over the past few days, while taking care of Jordan, she had started to feel that adopting a child wasn’t such a bad idea after all- at the very least, it might keep Chris from wandering off.

To her, it might not be as important as a business deal, but to Chris it could be a life–changing event.

Seeing how casual Jessica was about it, Shannon didn’t think much of it either and simply nodded.

But a weekter, when Shannon saw Chris standing at the entrance of the Register Office, she waspletely stunned.

“This… this is the ‘small matter‘ Ms. Wilder mentioned?” she exchimed, eyes wide in shock.

Wearing high heels, she walked up to Chris and hesitantly asked, “Sir, what’s this about?”

Seeing that the person who arrived wasn’t Jessica, Chris immediately felt displeased.

“Why are you here? Where is she?”

Shannon replied, “She went abroadst week–for the Ocean Conference. It’s a week–long event, she won’t be back until the weekend.”

As expected, his affairs were never as important as her business.

Shannon quickly took out her phone and called Jessica.

The person on the other end spoke in a difficult–to–understandnguage. Through the phone, Shannon could barely make anything out, but she could tell that Jessica sounded irritated.

“Ms. Wilder, do I really have to be the one to sign this?”

“If he tells you to sign it, then sign it.”

“But this… maybe it’s better to wait for you toe back?”

Jessica was holding her forehead with one hand and the phone with the other. When she noticed someone writing something on a piece of paper in front of her, her attention immediately shifted.

“No need. Just sign it. If money’s needed, just deduct it from the ount. And don’t forget to pick me up from the airport this weekend.”

Shannon quickly switched back to work mode. “This weekend is Madam Linda’s birthday. Does Mr. Green still need to attend?”

She wasn’t sure what the situation was anymore.

At this rate, Chris and Jessica were getting a divorce, so he wouldn’t be Linda’s son–inw anymore, and attending wouldn’t

    make sense.

“As the Wilder family’s son–inw, if he doesn’t show up, people willugh at us.” Jessica had just finished saying this when another question came her way, and she ended the call immediately.

Shannon gave a wry smile, while Chris, standing beside her, had heard everything.

He had thought they could part ways peacefully, but never expected Jessica wouldn’t even show up in person to finalize the divorce.

Chris had already resigned himself to it–there was no future for them anymore.

Since that was the case, there was no point in wasting time.

    He turned and walked inside.

Shannon couldn’t keep up in her heels and carefully followed a few steps. She wanted to say something tofort him, but thinking of Chris’s recent circumstances, she didn’t know what to say.

As Jessica’s personal secretary, Shannon naturally knew that Michel had returned to the country and that Ms. Wilder had been focused entirely on him and his daughter.

Meanwhile, Chris, as her husband, hadn’t even been going home.

For a marriage of several years to end like this–it was almost hrious.

When their number was called, Shannon tried once again to call Jessica to exin the situation, but she didn’t pick up.

The staff at the Register Office didn’t even look up. They took the documents from Chris, checked them, and quickly stamped

    them.

“Sir, perhaps you two should discuss this more-”

    Chris didn’t respond.

The staff worked efficiently. Two copies of the divorce certificates were handed over. Chris passed Jessica’s copy to Shannon.

Seeing how awkward Shannon looked, he offered some reassurance. “Don’t worry. She signed the divorce agreement herself. This has nothing to do with you. Even if you hadn’te today, I would still have found a way to collect the certificate.”
