Scarlett also noticed Audrey.
Earlier in the hallway, she had been crying so earnestly, her attention entirely on Tiana, that she hadn’t noticed Audrey. Now, seeing Audrey’s surprised expression, Scarlett could guess what she was thinking. But she acted as if she didn’t
know her and turned into the hospital room.
For people who didn’t matter to her, she couldn’t even be bothered to pretend.
Hugo was still inside. Scarlett raised an eyebrow, “Mr. Hodges, did you perhaps enter the wrong room?”
Her words were as cold as ever, keeping people at arm’s length.
Just moments ago, she had been chatting andughing with others, but with him, she was always so distant.
“No, I’m in the right ce,” Hugo replied.
Scarlett walked over to the bed, sat down, and faced him again. “So, what’s up?”
She really had a knack for getting under his skin with just a few words.
“Do I need a reason to visit someone in the hospital?” Hugo asked through gritted teeth.
A mocking smile yed at the corner of Scarlett’s lips. “Coming empty–handed to visit, I can’t tell if Mr. Hodges is reaching new heights of enlightenment or if he’s just always this half–hearted.”
Hugo nced at the table covered with flowers, fruit, and snacks, and walked over. “So, do you like this stuff?”
Scarlett just gave him a look that said, “Figure it out yourself.”
She didn’t care about the things themselves. But the chance to tease him was too good to pass up, and Scarlett was thoroughly enjoying it.
Hugo nodded, looking like he understood. When he came, he was only focused on her safety and hadn’t thought about
these extras.

He pulled out his phone, sent a quick message, and then put it away.
Scarlett didn’t say anything, nor did she care what he was up to.
However, half an hourter, the room was filled with flowers, starting from the door and wrapping around the entire room.
On the opposite wall, there was a huge floral arrangement.
The scent of flowers filled the air…
Hugo nodded in satisfaction, turning to the woman sitting on the bed with a proud look. “So, what do you think? Happy
now?”
Scarlett’s expression was hard to describe.
“Are you trying to hold a memorial for me or something?” she retorted.
The arrangement and color fit the requirements perfectly.
Hugo frowned, his handsome features showing a hint of confusion. “Weren’t you the one who said you liked it?”
Scarlett took a deep breath and looked away.
She just wanted some peace.
Hugo walked over to her, his eyes filled with concern. “I was in such a rush when I came, worried that something might
have happened to you, so I didn’t think much. If you like it, I’ll buy it for you next time.”
Worried about her?
Scarlett turned her head in disbelief, as if she’d just discovered something incredible. “Hugo, are you sure you don’t have a
fever? Or maybe you mistook me for someone else?”
As soon as she spoke, the atmosphere around them seemed to grow tense.
He narrowed his eyes, his voice low and slightly hoarse. “Scarlett, I know exactly who I’m talking to.”
She smirked. “So, are you having a moment of madness?”

Scarlett always knew how to push his buttons with just a few words.
He let out a softugh, his dark eyes sharp, his jawline tightening as he stared at her. “Scarlett, is that really how you see
me?”
As expected, Scarlett nodded. “Yeah, I’ve seen worse. Don’t you have a clear understanding of yourself?”
Hugo was momentarily speechless, even though he knew she was just teasing him.
“That was in the past,” he defended.
“From where I stand, nothing’s changed,” Scarlett stated calmly, as if it were a simple fact.
“That’s because you haven’t really gotten to know me.”
“Some people, you only need to know once in a lifetime,” Scarlett replied softly, making her stance clear.
Hugo squinted, looking directly at her. “Is that so? Then why are you trying to get discharged?”
Scarlett paused, then met his gaze. “Who told you that?”
“Does it matter?”
“Not really,” Scarlett nodded, then looked at him. “You don’t think I want to leave because of you, do you?”
Hugo stayed silent, pressing his lips together, but the answer was obvious.
Scarlett’s lips curled into a smile. “Mr. Hodges, since when did you start ttering yourself?”
Hugo’s dark eyes dimmed slightly as he smirked, “Oh really? Then tell me, why are you leaving the hospital?”
“I have my reasons, but they have nothing to do with you.”
Hugo clearly didn’t believe her.
But whether he believed it or not, Scarlett didn’t care.

At that moment, Hugo looked at her and suddenly said, “Tiana is just a friend to me.”
Scarlett was taken aback by his words, then replied, “You don’t need to exin your rtionship to me.”
“I just don’t want you to misunderstand.”
“Does it matter if I misunderstand?”
“It does matter.”
“Why?”
“Because…”
Hugo stopped himself mid–sentence.
He looked at her, his gaze growing more intense.
Scarlett met his eyes, and it felt like they were in a silent standoff.
Time seemed to freeze, and Scarlett could almost hear Hugo’s heart beating strongly.
Thump, thump, thump, each beat seemed to be saying something.

After what felt like an eternity, Hugo averted his gaze and calmly said, “No reason, I just wanted you to know the truth.”
Scarlett let out a softugh, her lips curling into a faint, mocking smile.
Her face, small and strikingly beautiful, always seemed to be like a sharp sword aimed at people.
Hugo admitted to himself that he was at a loss when it came to her.
He looked away and turned to leave. “I’m going out for a smoke.”
Watching his back as he left, Scarlett couldn’t be bothered and simplyy down to sleep.

After having dinner with Tara, First returned to the hospital. They sat in the car, watching the hallway surveince.
“This Hugo is here every day, making it hard for us to set things up!” Tara said, watching the man smoking on the screen.
First frowned, contemting the situation.
He couldn’t just meet Hugo directly to discuss this matter.
As she watched Hugo smoke, Tara’s lips curled up. “I have to admit, this guy is dangerously good–looking. Even the way he smokes is different, like the cigarette bes something special in his hands,” she sighed. “Makes me want to have
one too.”
First just sighed, “…”
He turned his head slightly, giving her a look that seemed to say, “Are you serious?”
But Tara Green didn’t care at all. She kept her eyes on the security footage and said, “I’ll bet you a hundred bucks that
Hugo Hodges has a thing for your mom.”
