Chapter 88 The contrast is too obvious.
Hugo was about to say something when William came back from dropping the kids off at school.
To avoid worrying him, both of them tacitly decided not to mention the incident.
As William walked in and saw only the two of them, he seemed a bit displeased. He approached Scarlett, “How are you
feeling, sweetheart? Any better?”
“Yeah, much better, Grandpa.”
“Are you feeling ufortable anywhere? Does it still hurt?” William asked with concern.
Scarlett shook her head, “Just a few scrapes, Grandpa. It’s nothing.”
“Scrapes? Car idents can be serious. You were lucky this time. If something happened, it would have been the end of
me,” William said.
Scarlett thought for a moment, “I didn’t think it through, Grandpa. I’m sorry for worrying you. It won’t happen again.” She
finished with a yful smile.
Seeing her smile, William found himself at a loss for words to scold her.
Meanwhile, Hugo watched, momentarily lost in thought.
This woman couldugh and chat with anyone, be fierce andmanding, or act sweet and yful. But with him, she
was always ready for battle.
It was as if she owed him money!
At that moment, Hugo spoke up, “Grandpa Adler, it was my oversight. The car Grandpa gifted Scarlett was meant to be a
kind gesture, but I didn’t anticipate this oue. It’s my fault.”
Scarlett?
Hearing him call her by that name, Scarlett looked up at Hugo, unable to suppress a shiver.

Why did her name sound so eerieing from Hugo’s mouth?
Clearly, William was taken aback too, turning to Hugo with a meaningful look.
He knew Hugo was trying to stand up for Scarlett, but at this point, such support was toote for them.
If only William had been less angry with him in earlier years.

After a moment’s thought, William spoke, “I understand the situation; it’s not your fault…” Then he added, “But I do
appreciate you saving Scarlett. Mr. Hodges, you’re a busy man, and it’s gettingte. You should head back. I’ve got things
covered here.”
William politely but firmly issued a farewell.
Hugo nced at him, then at Scarlett.
He knew the old man had a strong bias against him now, and anything he said would seem redundant. Still, Hugo couldn’t
help but feel uneasy. “Grandpa Adler…”
“I’d appreciate it if Mr. Hodges refrains from giving Scarlett such expensive gifts in the future,” William Adler said. “After all
you’re divorced now. If anything happens to her, I can’t promise I’ll be as calm as I am now.”
That single sentence shut down anything Hugo might have wanted to say.
Hugo furrowed his brow, hesitated for a long moment, then nodded. “I understand.”
“Good, then don’t send any more,” William said, sitting with his back to Hugo, not even bothering to turn around.
Hugo stood there for a moment, and just then, his phone rang. Seeing the number, he frowned slightly, then looked at
them and said, “I’ll be going now.” With that, he turned and walked out.
As the door closed, Scarlett looked at William. “Grandpa, you made it pretty clear you wanted him gone.”
“Really? I haven’t even told him to get lost yet, and that’s me being polite,” William said angrily. “Don’t think that just because he’s trying to be nice here, we can forgive him!”
Scarlett stayed silent.

“And you, what’s going on with him?” William asked.
Scarlett quickly shook her head, worried about getting herself involved. “I have nothing to do with him. I don’t know how he found me, but I definitely have no connection with him!” she insisted.
“Really?” William asked.
Scarlett nodded.
William thought for a moment before speaking, “Hugo isn’t a good match. Since you’re divorced, keep your distance.”
Scarlett nodded, “I understand.”
“Does Yale not know about your situation? Why hasn’t he called ore to see you?” William said.
William’s attitude was noticeably different.
“Grandpa, Yale doesn’t know. Please don’t stir things up,” Scarlett replied.
William thought for a moment and nodded, “I know, I won’t be calling anyone.”
Scarlett finally rxed.
Outside, First was about to go in to see Scarlett when he noticed Hugo rushing out of the hospital.
He paused as he pushed the door open.
Next to him, Tara asked, “What’s up?”
Seeing Hugo drive away, First shook his head, “Nothing.”
“You know that guy?” Tara’s keen observation was impressive.
“Nope,” First replied.
“He’s the legendary Hugo Hodano OPO–LIL

underworld. People have tried to take him down, but no one’s seeded,” Tara said.
Listening to her chatter, First said nothing and stepped out of the car.
Tara thought for a moment and followed him.
“Where are you going?” First asked.
“To see your mom with you!”
“If youe, how am I supposed to exin it?” First asked.
“That’s your problem.”
First was speechless.

“Even if you don’t exin who I am, you should at least exin where you wentst night, right?” Tara questioned.
That was definitely a problem.
“Or you could say I’m your pretty sister who found you lost and brought you to the hospital,” Tara suggested with a bi
kind smile.
“Is that even possible?” First doubted.
“It’s better than having no excuse, isn’t it?” Tara countered.
“I think that might insult my mom’s intelligence,” First replied.
“Come on, why are you so chatty at such a young age?” Tara said, already leading the way into the hospital.
First thought for a moment but had no choice but to follow her.
Inside the hospital.
William was talking to Scarlett when the door opened, and First walked in.
“Scarlett!” First rushed forward.

Tara followed closely behind, but when she saw the person sitting on the bed, she froze.

Simrly, Scarlett noticed her too, and for a brief moment, a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes before she quickly hid it.
“Scarlett, are you okay?” First asked with concern.
Scarlett looked away and shook her head at First. “I’m fine. Where did you go yesterday? Why weren’t you with Second
and Fourth?”
“I went out looking for you… and got lost,” First fibbed, trying to keep a straight face. Then he turned to Tara, “This kind
William immediately believed him and quickly thanked Tara. “Thank you so much. You’re really kind.”
Tara smiled gently, “No need to thank me. It was nothing.”
As she spoke, her gaze remained fixed on Scarlett. This woman… was stunningly beautiful, wasn’t she?
