Chapter 41 Provoking a big shot
Looking at the door number, Hugo Hodges didn’t even notice his hands were trembling slightly.
The next moment, he knocked on the door.
Barely after the first knock, the door swung open.
Scarlett Adler appeared in the doorway, her face flushed and unsteady on her feet. Before Hugo could say
anything, Scarlett copsed directly into his arms.
“Scarlett, Scarlett,” Hugo called out her name, and it was only when he noticed the stickiness on his hands
that he realized her wrists were covered in blood.
“What did he do to you?” Hugo’s eyes instantly turned stormy.
“I’m fine,” Scarlett said.
“This is what you call fine?” Hugo asked, his face looking like he wanted to kill someone.
Just then, they heard the sound of a showering from the bathroom inside. As he was about to do
something, Scarlett said, “I did this to myself, otherwise I was afraid of losing consciousness. He didn’t do
anything to me.”
Hugo was about to say something when, coincidentally, the sound of the water stopped. The next moment,
Kane Jennings opened the door and walked out.
“Little darling, I’m here,” he said, a towel wrapped around his waist and his upper body bare, looking utterly
sleazy. However, as soon as he stepped out of the door, he froze at the sight before him.
Hugo Hodges stood at the entrance, backlit, so his face wasn’t immediately clear.
Kane Jennings was annoyed, knowing that Scarlett Adler had called for backup. But he wasn’t about to let
the
prey he had in his grasp fly away. He walked up and yelled, “Who are you? Did youe to the wrong
room? Get out now…”
Before he could even reach Hugo Hodges, Hugo Hodges suddenly kicked him, sending him flying.
Kane Jennings, caught off guard, took the full force of the kick and fell to the ground, unable to get up for a
long while.
“Damn, you dare kick me? You must be tired of living. Who the hell are you? I’m going to kill you,” Kane
Jennings shouted, enraged.
“You’re not worthy to hear my name,” Hugo Hodges said.
If Scarlett Adler wasn’t injured, he would have done much more than just kick him.
“Damn, I’ll kill you,” Kane Jennings cursed.
Julu wanly, A gentleman takes revenge
after ten years. I need to rest now.”
Looking at the person in his arms, Hugo Hodges stopped himself from wanting to kill Kane Jennings.
“I’ll take you to the hospital,” he said.
“Okay,” Scarlett Adler nodded.
Hugo Hodges scooped her up in his arms. As he was about to leave, the person who had been dining with
them came running after him.
“Hugo, what happened?”
As he approached, Hugo Hodges instinctively shielded Scarlett Adler’s face against his chest.
The man immediately understood what was going on, but when he nced inside and saw Kane Jennings,
he asked, “You hit him?”
“What happened today stays here,” Hugo Hodges said before walking away.
“Are you just going to let this go?” the man asked.
“I have my own ns,” Hugo Hodges replied without turning back, carrying Scarlett Adler away.
Kane Jennings, still on the ground, clearly heard their conversation.
Hugo?
Why did that name sound so familiar?
Looking at the man by the door, Kane Jennings asked, “Who was that guy?”
“Oh, no one important, just Hugo Hodges, the head of the Hodges Family Corporation.”
Kane Jennings’s face fell instantly.
“Damn, I’ve messed with someone I shouldn’t have!”
After putting Scarlett Adler in the car, Hugo Hodges drove straight to the hospital.
In the passenger seat, Scarlett Adler leaned weakly against the backrest, her body still limp, but fortunately,
her mind was much clearer.
Sweat soaked her hair at the forehead, and the flush on her face hadn’t faded, but her lips looked much paler.
“Hang in there, we’ll be at the hospital soon,” Hugo Hodges said.
Scarlett Adler pressed her hand on her wound, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. “I’m fine. A little
blood loss will wear off the drug. No need to go.”
Looking at her smile, even in this state, she still had a morbid beauty.
Hugo Hodges looked away. “You seem to know a lot.”
“The more you experience, the more you learn,” Scarlett Adler said.
Hugo Hodges paused, looking at her.
Scarlett Adler didn’t say anything more.
Hugo Hodges’s heart was in turmoil. So, this wasn’t the first time she had experienced something like this?
“Don’t talk, rest a bit. We’ll be at the hospital soon,” Hugo Hodges said.
Scarlett Adler stopped talking and closed her eyes. As she did, she mumbled, “Drive slowly, don’t let me die
because of you.”
Hugo Hodges was speechless.
Any other girl would have been terrified and crying hysterically.
But looking at Scarlett, she could still joke around as if nothing had happened.
He didn’t even realize it, but his heart was already in turmoil.

Inside the hospital.
When Scarlett opened her eyes again, she was already hooked up to an IV, and the wound on her hand was
bandaged.
Seeing Hugo Hodges sitting beside her, Scarlett checked the time. It was already eleven at night.
“Thanks for today. It’ste, you should go home and rest,” Scarlett said, directly dismissing him.
Hugo Hodges frowned. “Is that all you have to say to me?”
“I’ll transfer the medical fees to you another day. I really don’t have the energy to deal with it today,” she said.
Hugo Hodges was speechless.
Did this woman have no conscience at all?
Hugo Hodges took a deep breath. “Fine, if that’s what you want, I’ll leave.” With that, Hugo Hodges stood up
and left.
Scarlett Adler showed no intention of asking him to stay.
Hugo Hodges, annoyed, simply opened the door and left.
Watching his figure disappear, Scarlett Adler turned away and reached for her bag, which was ced nearby. She struggled to reach it.
After much effort, she finally got the bag, found her phone, and sent a message to their “Adler Family” group, telling them she wouldn’t being back because something came up.
William Adler asked why.
The three little ones asked too.
Scarlett was about to reply when the door suddenly opened, and Hugo Hodges walked back in.
Looking at him, Scarlett was taken aback. She replied with just two words, “Something came up,” and then
put her phone away.
“Did you forget something?” Scarlett asked, looking at Hugo.
Hugo walked over and looked at her coldly. “Even if you have no heart, I can’t be without one. I still have some
decency. I’ll wait until you’re better before I leave.”
Scarlett was speechless.
Decency?
What decency was there between them?
She was beginning to realize more and more that their marriage had been a one-sided affair. Talking about
decency was really just sugarcoating it.
“Really, I’m fine.”
“Scarlett Adler, are you even a woman?” Hugo Hodges suddenly asked, sounding annoyed. He couldn’t
understand why she was being so difficult.
Scarlett blinked. “Obviously, yes.”
“Other women in this situation would be crying and terrified. Here I am, staying with you, and instead of being
grateful, you’re trying to get rid of me?” Hugo Hodges retorted, frustrated.
“So, is that the kind of thing you like?” Scarlett asked.
Hugo was speechless.
“Tiana Young is like that, isn’t she?” Scarlett said.
Although her body was still weak, her spirit was strong.
