“What’s the name of the partner on that project?”
Lucas asked casually, keeping his tone even.
In his mind, Vanguard Group also seemed to be bidding on a project recently–he wondered if it was the
same one.
Aurora’s hand, holding her fork, paused midair. She was surprised–why was Lucas suddenly so interested in her projects?
Why hadn’t she noticed this before?
“Lucas, are you really just curious?”
Her eyes narrowed slightly, suspicion flickering in her gaze.
Something about him didn’t feel right.
He froze for only a moment before smoothing his expression, lips curving to lighten the mood.
“I’m just curious about anything that concerns you. I want to be closer to you. I don’t want there to be distance between us–I’d like to be the one you can confide in.”
Aurora’s lips parted, his words leaving her momentarily speechless.
Had she been overthinking everything?
“It’s the south citynd project. The partner’s name is Daniel Lewis.”
At the sound of that name, Lucas‘ hand, still holding chopsticks, stilled in ce.
Something about it struck him as familiar.
“What is it? Do you know him?” Aurora asked curiously, noticing his reaction.
Lucas‘ eyes flickered away, and he quickly ced a dish onto her te. “No, the name just sounded familiar. Doesn’t he have some… questionable hobbies?”
Aurora’s eyes widened. “You’ve heard about that too?”
Lucas gave a small nod. “Yes, it caused quite a stir. In the industry, he’s rather notorious.”
Aurora muttered, “Then how can he still be so arrogant? He must have some kind of powerful backing, right?”
“Probably.”
Lucas rubbed the bridge of his nose, looking a little uneasy. In truth, he had heard plenty about Daniel.
The truth was, the man was capable and efficient.
As long as nothing got too out of hand, he rarely bothered with those things.
His so–called hobbies were all between consenting adults–why should he interfere?
But now that Aurora wanted the project, Lucas was determined to make sure she got it.
He reached out and gently brushed her soft hair. “Alright, don’t overthink it. Tomorrow will go smoothly.”
“Let’s hope so.”
Aurora’s words brought no reply, only a faint, meaningful smile tugging at Lucas‘ lips.
The next day.
Aurora arrived at Day Light Restaurant with Ian.
The ce was known for both its excellent food and its privacy, making it a popr spot for business meetings.
By the time they arrived, Daniel was already there waiting.
Aurora exchanged a puzzled nce with Ian.
Hadn’t they said he had certain peculiar habits and that he never arrived before others?
So, what was going on now?
Seeing him there early was genuinely unexpected.
Ian caught Aurora’s look and scratched his head, just as confused. “I’m not sure either. Maybe he’s not quite like the rumors say.
Hearing this, Aurora didn’t doubt him. After all, there wasn’t any better exnation.
She had never dealt with Daniel before, and Ian probably knew more than she did.
“Alright, let’s head in.”
Aurora led Ian into the private room.
