She would definitely be gratefulter.


    But Grace wasn’t the least bit intimidated by Albert’s words.


    “What, now we judge prison time based on how ser louhe Injuries look?”


    “It fault doesn’t matter, then let’s say you pped me fat and I hit you back just a little harder. Does that mean I go to jail while you, the one who started it, walkway without consequence?”


    She stepped closer to Albert and murmured coldly by hisar, “Is that how it works?”


    Albert was momentarily stunned, unable toe up with a reply.


    Seeing the two about to sh, the chief quickly stepped to defuse the tension.


    “Hey, hey, even if you start fighting here, it won’t change anything.”


    Both Grace and Albert turned to look at liim, and the chit suddenly felt a bit awkward.


    Still, he rubbed his nose and said, “Actually, the reason called both of you here is for something else.”


    As he spoke, he handed them a copy of the case file.


    He began exining, “Because of Julian’s current condon, we at the department aren’t sure how to proceed with the charges.


    “That said, the crimes hemitted those are clear a day.”


    Grace pped in agreement. “Exactly. If he dared to do something, so outrageous, then he better be ready to face the consequences!”


    Her words pierced Julian’s heart like needles, sharp and unrelenting.


    His gaze flickered slightly, lips barely moving, and in th unnoticed corner of the room, his eyes darkened.


    He had memorized every one of their faces.


    He thought faking, madness would help him escape pun ment.


    Now he realized–nothing had changed.


    No matter what, these people always held him to imposible standards.


    Albert copsed into the chair, drained and speechless.


    He knew very well that the current situation wasn’t in s or Julian’s favor, especially with Grace right in front of him, nothing he said could stand up to reason.


    If this continued, it wouldn’t end well for him either.


    He had no choice but to look at Grace, eyes filled with pleading.


    “Madam Grace, please listen to me—this is a matter between our two families. If it blows up, it won’t do anyone any good.


    “How about this–we settle it privately first. Let’s take both kids home and let them recover properly.


    “If you’re still not satisfied, I’ll bring them back myself


    Hearing that, Grace looked over at Tessa and met her gaze.


    Tessa gave a slight nod and didn’t refute what Albert sail.


    Leaving this ce as soon as possible was the best oue.


    She was truly sick of it here.


    At this point, even her skin felt itchy, like something filthy was crawling all over her.


    The damp, gloomy air in the detention center only amplified her fear.


    Tessa knew perfectly well–if she stayed any longer, shed end up like Julian,


    So why waste any more time here?


    There was really no need for that.


    Once Grace understood what Tessa meant, she quickly made her decision.


    She had thought the same from the beginning.


    Let the two kids go home first–keeping them here, out of reach, only made everything more difficult to


    manage.


    Grace nodded. “Alright, let’s speak with the chief. Let’s get the kids out on bail. Leaving them here any longer isn’t helping anyone.”
