Hearing that, Lucas hesitated.

At first, he hadn’t taken it seriously, but Keh noticed the flicker of doubt in his eyes.

Seizing the moment, he pressed on. “No matter the oue, at least let them try. What’s the harm?”

    Lucas didn’t respond right away.

Instead, his gaze shifted to Aurora.

Her delicate features, pale and still, tugged at something in him.

    Keh wasn’t wrong.

If it meant even the slightest chance of helping her, he was willing to try things he’d never considered before.,

And truthfully, they were running out of time. He couldn’t afford to wait any longer.

Finally, he turned toward Keh. “Is this doctor of yours actually legit?”

Keh didn’t even nce at Wendy, who stood quietly off to the side.

    He stepped forward, eager.

“Completely legit. He’s a renowned neurologist I’ve worked with overseas, absolutely top–tier. You have my word, Lucas. When ites to your wife, I’d never joke around. I mean that.”

Lucas pressed his lips into a thin line. He didn’t say it outright, but the look in his eyes said enough–he was on board.

Keh smiled in relief. “Great. I’ll bring them in within the next couple of days. Don’t worry, I’d never take chances with her

    health.”

Lucas gave a low hum of acknowledgment before casting a brief nce toward Wendy by the door.

    “Take her with you.”

Then he turned away, clearly done with the conversation.

His meaning couldn’t have been clearer.

He had nothing more to say to Wendy–and

only reason he’d even entertained this discussion was because of the doctor.

If not for that, he would’ve kicked them both out the moment they stepped in.

    Keh caught on.

He clenched his fists and said earnestly, “Don’t worry, Lucas. I’ll do everything I can to help your wife. And I would never gamble with my family’s name. I couldn’t even if I wanted to.”

    Keh’sst words came out softly.

He was a grown man, and it still stung to lower his head in front of someone he’d spent his whole lifeparing himself to.

But when it came to the family, pride wasn’t worth much.

He let out a quiet sigh, unsure of what else to say.

“Take care of your wife, alright? I’ll get Wendy out of here.”

    Lucas didn’t respond.

He simply turned his back on them, cold and distant.

Even if Keh had once been his closest friend, nothing took precedence over Aurora.

    Not history, not friendship. Nothing.

To Lucas, loving her meant more than anything else–even more than loving himself.

Keh stared at that proud, unyielding figure and couldn’t help the difort that settled in his chest.

He drew in a breath, then left with Wendy reluctantly trailing behind.

But the moment they stepped outside, Wendy yanked her hand out of his grip.

“You’re seriously going to bring in doctors for that bitch?” she snapped.

She’d been hoping Aurora would stay unconscious forever.

That way, no one could steal Lucas from her.

Her voice rose sharply, and Keh’s eyes widened in rm.

Without hesitation, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her farther from the hospital entrance.

Only once he was sure they were out of earshot did he finally release her, exhaling hard.

“Are you out of your mind?” he hissed.

“Do you have any idea who’s in that room?”
