<b>With </b>that<b>, </b>Lucas stepped out and made <b>a </b>call to Desmond.
Desmond was still at thepany, neck–deep in work.
He already felt drained<b>, </b>and when <b>he </b>saw Lucas‘ name pop <b>up </b>on his phone, he nearly cked out. Seriously? Was this never going to end?
He took a deep breath, trying to collect himself, then finally answered.
“Mr. Carter, what’s going on? What do you need?”
Lucas spoke in a low voice. “I won’t be able to return for now. Keep a close eye on thepany for me.
“Also, find someone to monitor Walton Corporation. We can’t let anyone make a move while Aurora’s down<b>.</b>”
With that, he hung up.
Leaving Desmond standing there in stunned silence, winded like he’d just been punched in the gut.
He stared at the ck screen, speechless.
What the hell was this? Were these two taking turns tormenting him?
He was already juggling everything on his own, and now they wanted to dump even more work on him.
Seriously, were this husband and wife tag–teaming just to ruin his life?
Desmond was filled with resentment, but he had no choice.
The truth was, Lucas paid him very well.
If he left this job, who knew where he’d find another one like it?
Might as well stick it out.

Just as he was about to find someone to keep tabs on Walton Corporation, a new message from Lucas popped up:
“I will increase your sry by tenfold this month.”
The moment Desmond saw “tenfold,” his eyes lit up.
Suddenly, his back didn’t ache anymore, his headache vanished, and the world looked brighter than ever.
The future was promising–he was still young, he could keep going.
Now, no matter what task he took on, one thing echoed in Desmond’s mind:
“Tenfold.”
And just like that, energy surged through him.
Desmond replied to Lucas with a cheerful message:
“Mr. Carter don’t worry. You just focus on staying by Mrs. Carter’s side. I’ve got both thepany and Walton Corporation covered. If anythinges up, I’ll inform you right away. Money’s not the point–it’s <b>all </b>about loyalty.”
Lucas nced at the message but didn’t reply.

<b>To </b><b>him</b><b>, </b><b>money </b>was nothing more than a string of cold numbers.
<b>Rather </b>than letting <b>it </b><b>sit </b><b>idle</b><b>, </b><b>he’d </b>rather put it to good use.
He <b>stood </b><b>up </b>and looked at Aurora<b>, </b><b>still </b>lying unconscious.
His mind <b>reyed </b><b>what </b>the <b>butler </b>and Ian had told him earlier.
The current situation couldn’t go on.
<b>They </b>couldn’t afford to let Aurora remain asleep like this.
<b>No </b>one knew if her condition was dangerous.
More importantly, he didn’t trust a word the hospital’s doctor had said.
Some things had to be handled by his own people–people he could trust.
With that thought, Lucas rose to his feet and stepped out to make <b>a </b><b>call</b>, leaving Aurora alone in the room.
Meanwhile, Gary had been filled with anxiety these past couple of days.
It was already the second day, and by his calction, Aurora would <b>be </b>waking up soon.
Once the drug wore off<b>, </b>there wouldn’t be much wrong with her physically.
Which meant everything he’d done would be exposed.
After all, Tessa had made it clear that Aurora wasn’t supposed to wake up at all.
