Chapter 68

The return to the charity g felt like mming into ice water.

The music was soft and lilting, but Nivera felt like a marching band was poing t off in her head.

Her legs were still weak, her breathing not quite even, and yet here she was, back in the glittering affroom of socialites and billionaires, beside a man who looked like he hadn’t just had his fingers buried in her minutes ago and gave her one of the best organs she had ever had in her lif

Nivera sat stiffly beside Alejandro, her entire body tense, her expression neutral enough for the cameras and quests, but inside? insle

    tomado

Alejandro, on the other hand, sat like he hadn’t just fingered her into oblivion in a storage room

He cut his steak calmly, chewed slowly, nodded once at something the couple beside them said. Completely unbothered andpletely rxed

    The audacity.

Nivera’s mind was a war zone. Her lips still tingled. Her thighs still trembled.

Her breath hitched every time she remembered the way his fingers moved inside her–like he owned her, like he’d always known exactly how to touch

    her

    And he just walked away.

Now here he was, sipping wine and eating fillet mignon like the world hadn’t just shifted.

Nivera mmed her napkin down a little harder than necessary.

Andrew, a young man beside them, turned with a smile. “Are you alright, Miss Elton?”

“I’m great,” she said with a tight–lipped smile that did not reach her eyes.

Alejandro nced at her from the corner of his eye and said nothing. Nothing. Not a damn word.

    That bastard!

He even had the audacity to sh her a slight smirk before leisurely stabbing a piece ofmb and bringing it to his mouth.

She picked up her fork and stabbed a piece of grilled steak like it had personally offended her

Andrew tried again, clearly unaware of the fact that Nivera was seething. “Your dress is stunning is it Vera Wang!

    “No,” she replied curtly.

    “Ah. I thought

“You’re not the first to say it tonight,” she smiled, then picked up her wine ss and downed half of it in one go

Andrew blinked and looked away, maybe getting the hint that she didn’t know nor did she care

Alejandro didn’t say a word. But she knew he was enjoying this. Every second of her unraveling,

Because unlike her, he didn’t have any emotions, and everything was a game to him, including what had just happened.

But she didn’t know that it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Alejandro nced at her once again. His expression was stil calm and unreadable. But beneath thatposed exterior, a storm was raging,

He hadn’t even tasted the beef in his mouth. Everything paled inparisen to how she’d tasted on his fingers Sweet, Addictive. Better than anything he’d ever imagined

He flexed his hand under the table, the same one that had been inside her not long ago. The scent of her stil clung to his skin, phantom and maddening.

He hadn’t meant to go that far. He hadn’t nned to.

But the moment the locked him in the eye and whispered please, something in him trapped. through him with no brakes.

The need to im her, ruin her for anyone else,

He had walked away because if he hadn’t, he would have taken her against that wall, consequences be damned.

And judging by the way she was!

    And that was the problem

he was looking at him now with fine in her eyes, he knew she wouldn’t have stopped him.

Because if he’d tasted her, he wouldn’t have stopped. And he had a feeling he wouldn’t have let her go afterwards with

She wasn’t a toy anymore but a challenge he had to solve so he could finally get rid of her from his head.

    So yes, he walked away.

    And yes, he regretted it.

Nivera stabbed another piece of her food while he took a long sip of his wine.

“Are you going to keep acting like you didn’t just she hissed slowly, turning to him.

    “Eat!” he said innocently.

    You’re insufferable.”

    “Thank you, Cabe?ota.”

She red. His calm was infuriating

Across the room, her father appeared, like the demon he was. Matthew Elton approached with a ss of whisky in hand and a sneer on his face.

“Andrew, would you please excuse me?” He asked, leaving Andrew in a tough spot.

Who would say no to Matthew Elton asking? And so, Andrew got up and left

As soon as her father slipped into the seat, Nivera froze with lear

see you two are enjoying yourselves,” he said, tone clipped.

Alejandro gave a polite smile. “It’s a lovely evening”

“Shame,” Matthew said, swirling his drink. “I was hoping for a scandal Something to remind the press just who you are beneath the polish.”

Alejandro’s smile didn’t waver, “You’ll have to wait a little longer, Mr. Elton. I’ve learnt restraint. Somewhat. Keep pushing, and I’ll punch you again.”

“She used to have ambition, you know.” Matthew scoffed as he nced at his daughter, which made hiver flinch.

Alejandro set his wine down. “She still does. Just not the kind you can control.”

    you soon enough.”

Matthew’s face darkened. He leaned in slightly. “You think you’ve won? She’ll be done with ye

“Maybe,” Alejandro said casually, “But until then, it’s my name she moans.

Matthew froze as red began to creep up his neck.

Meanwhile, Nivera’s eyes widened. “Alejandro–Was he crazy to say such a thing to her father

Matthew stared at them, nostrils faring, rage simmering beneath the surface.

“Now, unless you want to hear details of our bedroom activities, goodnight, Alejandro said coolly, tuming back in his te

“You really outdid yourself by getting involved with this bastand Matthew then stormed off

Nivera stared at Alejandro after her father was gone. “Did you just tell my father I moan your name?”

    Alejandro shrugged. “Was I wrong?”

She stabbed another piece of asparagus, after which she inhaled sharply, grabbing her water. “I’m going to drown myself with thin

“Don’t,” Alejandro said mildly. “Then I’d have to give you mouth to mouth, and you clearly can’t handle me touching you again,”

His words nearly made her choke. “You’re disgusting.”

    “I’m honest”

“Honest men don’t make women beg and then walk away like nothing happened.”

His eyes locked with hers, and it sent shivers down her spine.

“if I hadn’t walked away, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. We’d be in a locked room with your legs around my waist and you screaming my name as I pound in and out of you aggressively.”

Nivera’s mouth dropped wide open as she didn’t know what to say to his words, but her face knew how to react as it turned crimson

So he didn’t leave because he was bored, he left so he wouldn’t have sex?

Somehow, she couldn’t decide which was worse? Was sleeping with her that bad for him in his books?

“Cat cut your tongue?” Alejandro jabbed

She bit back her retort as an older couple passed by, smiling and waving

“Smile” Alejandro whispered, “You’re supposed to look like you’re in love.”

Nivera forced a grin. “You have no idea how lucky you are I haven’t stabbed you with this fork yet.”

    “Feisty,” he chuckled.

They endured about two more hours of the g. Speeches, ughter, apuse.

None of it registered. Nivera’s mind was still back in that storage room while Alejandro’s jaw was tight the entire time, his thoughts tangled with the memory of her taste, her sounds, her softness.

The event turned into a tortuous one for the two and Nivera couldn’t have been more happy when Alejandro said he was time to leave.

They left quietly through the back,

The car ride home was wrapped in thick silence. The kind that pulsed with unsaid words and wild thoughts.

Nivera sat with her arms crossed, staring straight ahead trying to ignore how her body still reacted to his presence.

Alejandro leaned back, watching the city blur past through the window when his phone rang

    D

He pulled it from his pocket. One nce at the screen, and his entire body changed,

    Why was she calling?

    “Aunt?” He answered immediately

Nivera looked over, sensing the shift in his tone.

    He answered. “What? When?”

    There was a long pause.

    “Where are you now?”

    Another silence.

    “Understood. I’ll prep the team.”

There was another pause, after which he muttered something under his breath, then said, “We’re on our way. Keep therm stable.”

    He then hung up.

“Alejandro?” Nivera asked, concerncing her voice. “What happened?”

He turned to her slowly, the storm in his eyes no longer masked.

“Antonio and Zabelle are back early from their honeymoon,” he said quietly.

    Nivera blinked. “Why?”

    “They were attacked.”

    She stared at him, unblinking.

“Zabelle’s been shot. She’s in the hospital”

The silence that followed was deafening

Alejandro turned forward to instruct the driver. “Go to the hospital we need to be there.”

Nivera sighed her heart now matching the chaos that had been sitting just beneath Alejandro’s surface.

He looked like he was itching to kill someone and she knew if he managed to get his hands on who had attacked his brother and his wife, he would do just that.
