Ruthless 26

    Chapter 26

    She failed

However, it wasn’t because shecked talent, but Nathaniel ckwell decided to ruin her, the report read, and Alejandro’s brows furrowed as he changed his sitting position.

He flipped the page, and there it was. The moment it all began.

It was apparently supposed to be the biggest night of Nivera’s career, as her career was taking off.

There was a photo of her, radiant in an emerald gown, on the red carpet of a high profile fashion g, and he saw pictures of Nathaniel at the same event but with a different woman.

Nathaniel had been the guest of honour not because he was charming or charitable.

But because he was the executive director of the Global Fashion Consortium–the hand that decided which faces were featured on covers and which were erased from billboards overnight.

And he had decided to erase her.

There were other photos. Ones that hadn’t made the tabloids, Private, grainy ones taken backstage. One showed Nivera pushing his hand off her waist

    Another, blurry but

ut damning, caught the moment he leaned in too close while she visibly flinched

The tabloids hadn’t cared about those photos, What had flooded the media instead was Nathaniel’s press conference a weekter, full of righteous indignation and smooth lies.

“I have never acted inappropriately toward Miss Elton. Any assumptions to the contrary are unfortunate misinterpretations. She is a promising young woman, but her refusal to work cooperatively with our standards led to a difficult decision regarding future coborations.”

He read the asshole’s statement, which was a whole load of bullshit, as all he could bring out was the fact that Nivera stood her ground and wouldn’t apologize. So Nathaniel destroyed her.

Rumours had swirled for weeks, and they had been effectively shut down.

Some said she’d pped Nathaniel for misbehaving with her. Others that she’d tried to seduce him and failed.

And when she refused to publicly apologize for “disrupting” such an important night, doors that had once opened for her mmed shut.

    So that was the story.

Alejandro leaned back in his chair, staring at the closed door as silence stretched long and bitter around him.

She was indeed different as she didn’t follow the rules. She fought them, Over and over again, not caring about her career.

It exined the fire in her eyes when she spoke back. The way she looked at him like she wanted to set him aze, even when she was terrified

    especially when she was terrified.

It intrigued him more than he wanted to admit.

She wasn’t a spoiled heiress who was out of touch with reality. She was survival and anger wrapped in silk and defiance

never stopped fighting like she deserved to be more

And though she belonged to a family that probably wished she didn’t, she never

Alejandro closed the file with a snap and dropped it on the desk. The sound echoed, and he sighed as he let his thoughts take over.

He was supposed to break her. That was the n, it still was. But for a moment tonight, when she’d whispered please, something shifted in him.

Something he wasn’t ready to name,

The other times when she had expressed her displeasure over him choosing to take her to the wedding, it was purely anger he saw in her eyes, but tonight, it was fear, and he knew it had everything to do with her father..

His gaze suddenly darkened, and his mood took a turn as he remembered the night he and Nivers first met. The revealing outfit, the hair, the makeup – the had gone to Nathaniel.

    He scoffed, jaw tightening.

“What a shame,” he muttered under his breath. “You’ve no different from the rest”.

He couldn’tpletely me her; after all, desperation made even the proudest of women crawl back to power on their knees

That didn’t, however, stop him from clicking his tongue in disappointment..

    Nathaniel ckwell.

Alejandro didn’t need to be told twice. That man had been a problem for years–protected by influence, feared by models, and worshipped by corporate boardrooms, But no one was untouchable.

    No one.

And it was time for him to y the saviour and put the devil in his ce.
