Chapter298
Ceciliay staring at the IV bottle above her, watching the liquid drip through the clear tube into her veins.
The hospital room hung heavy with tension.
Wesley held her hand, his expression grave.
“I’ve sent people to search. I’ll tell you immediately if there’s news. Don’t panic.”
Cecilia’s eyes stung as she blinked, tears tracing paths down her cheeks.
She knew the truth–the river’s current had been too strong. If rescue failed then, Corrine could be anywhere by now.
And the downpour still hadn’t let up.
She pulled her hand free, face deathly pale, and threw back the covers.
Her voice came out cracked and raw.
“If your men can’t find her, let the police handle it.”
She was going to report Larissa.
Larissa was the murderer.
Wesley pressed her back onto the bed, his brow darkening. “Ci, my team is as capable as the police. As for Corrine…”
He paused, then said slowly, “I promise you–we’ll find her. Alive or… we’ll bring her back.”

Cecilia shuddered, understanding the weight of those words.
Corrine’s chances were slim.
Her empty, vacant eyes fixed on Wesley.
Ci’s tears streamed down her face as she demanded, “Wesley, Corrine is dead, and Larissa is the murderer. You said you’d look for her–do you think you can find her?”
“For your dear sister, you couldn’t find Corrine alive, and now you can’t even find her body.”
Each word dripped with icy hatred as she red at him.
Wesley wanted tofort her, but meeting her gaze left him speechless, his throat tight.
After a long pause, he finally said, “I promise… I’ll find her.”
Ci insisted on calling the police
She didn’t trust Wesley.
Gripping her shoulders, Wesley lowered his voice, “If Larissa is the murderer, then what about Corrine? She stabbed Johan in the chest. Johan’s still fighting for his life.”
Johan.
The memory shed before Ci.
She wished this were a nightmare–that she’d wake to see Corrine standing before her, unharmed.
“Even if Johan dies, whether Corrine goes to prison or pays with her life–that’s for the police to decide. What right did Larissa have to push

her into the river?”
Ci’s pent–up emotions shattered.
Despair and fury consumed her.
Wesley held her trembling body, pressing a kiss to her hair. “Ci,” he murmured, “Johan is your brother.”
He gently stroked Cecilia’s cheek, holding her close as he whispered, “He’s your biological brother.”
Brother?
Cecilia looked up, tear stains still fresh on her face, her voice hoarse and dripping with sarcasm.
“Wesley, you’d spin such lies just for Larissa?”
Wesley sighed softly. “It’s true. Johan recognized you long ago. DNA tests confirmed you’re siblings.”
“He’s fighting for his life on the operating table right now.”
Cecilia shook her head. “I don’t believe you. This is another lie for
Larissa.”
“Need I remind you how well Johan treated you?”
Wesley pressed.
Cecilia bit her lip. She knew–had even questioned Johan’s motives.
“You went missing as a child. The Johnson family searched for you all these years, Ci.”
Wesley’s eyes filled with pity. “Go see Johan. Please?”

The emptiness in Cecilia’s eyes gradually gave way to focus. She slipped on her shoes and walked out.
Wesley moved to support her, but she pushed him away.
Outside the OR, Larissa sat motionless, confusion clouding her gaze.
Step by step, Cecilia approached. Her lingering doubts inexplicably twisted into anguish
at the sight of the crimson operating light.
Brother.
The word echoed in her mind as her vision darkened.
What a chaotic day.
Like a nightmare.
Seeing her, Larissa was reminded of Johan leaving her for Cecilia, ayer of hatred clouding her eyes.
“What are you doing here?”
Her tone was sharp.
Cecilia stepped forward, eyes like frozen steel, and pped her across the face.
“Larissa, you hurt Corrine. I won’t let this slide.”
Larissa shot to her feet, a mockingugh escaping her lips. “Cecilia, she attempted murder. As Johan’swful wife, I’ll pursue this to the end.”
She curled her lips, malice dripping from her words. “But I doubt she’ll evere back.”
