Cecilia urged her. “Everything’s arranged for your abroad trip. Don’t go back to the Johnson family.”
“I can’t escape this, Ci. I must return.”
She wanted to go back to investigate her parents‘ deaths.
Corrine recounted how Holden hade to the hospital, iming her parents were silenced.
“That was Holden lying to you.”
Cecilia quickly interjected, “Corrine, please calm down.”
“But I have Mom’s ring.”
Corrine suddenly choked up, overwhelmed by sorrow, “That ring, she never took it off.”
Cecilia could only urge her to stayposed before rushing to the hospital.
In the ward, two middle–aged women had already packed Corrine’s belongings.
Corrine had changed out of her hospital gown.
Standing by the window, she turned to Cecilia, her face pale with hidden grief.
“Ci, you’re here.”
Cecilia hurried to her side, whispering, “After you graduate and return,

There was no need to return to the Johnson family.
That ce was devoid of warmth.
“My mind’s made up. Don’t try to change it.”
Corrine opened her palm, revealing an unadorned ring.
“This was my mother’s.”
Tears streamed down Corrine’s face.
Her mother had worn this ring for twenty years–Corrine would recognize it anywhere.
Cecilia’s eyes teared up as she embraced Corrine. “Corrine.”
What could she possibly do for her?
“Miss Corrine, everything’s packed.”
The middle–aged woman urged.
Corrine pushed Cecilia away, “Ci, goodbye.”
She left as well.
Minutester, Johan arrived.
He gasped for breath, staring at the room where only Cecilia remained, and asked anxiously, “Where is she?”
“Returned to the Johnson family.”
Johan kicked the hospital bed viciously. The bed scraped loudly as it

shifted several inches.
“Holden.”
He ground his teeth, hatred seeping through every syble.
He’d already guessed Holden must have discovered something, hence forcing Corrine to stay.
“Johan, what’s really going on?”
Cecilia pressed, “Corrine went to the Johnson family–could she be in danger?”
Johan regained someposure. “She’ll be fine.”
He couldn’t involve Cecilia any further.
“I’ll take you home.”
After arriving at Chaston Vi, Johan sought out Wesley.
His pent–up frustration finally surfaced, raw and restless.
“Holden did this deliberately.”
“He’s using Corrine to control me.”
“That old bastard.”
Wesley waited until Johan’s outburst subsided before asking, “So, have you decided?”
Johan clenched his fists. “If I agree to your terms, Corrine and I… we’d never have a chance again, isn’t that right?”
Wesley didn’t respond..

The choice rested solely with Johan
Johan looked utterly dejected. He covered his eyes with his hand, not a trace of vitality left in him.
“I never had a choice from the beginning.”
Johan let out a bitter smile, his voice hoarse. “I truly regret not learning properly from my father back then.”
Handing over thepany just like that.
Now, Holden meddled inpany affairs while ying the perfect uncle.
Leaving nothing to criticize.
For three years, Johan hadn’t slept a single peaceful night.
“Wesley, don’t let Cecilia know about this.”
Johan murmured the reminder.
“Got it.”
Wesley would protect Cecilia without anyone’s prompting.
Johan smiled with immense sorrow. “I’ve made up my mind. Proceed as nned.”
Cecilia hadn’t been able to reach Corrine for a whole week.
She could only go ask Juniper.
After what happened before, Juniper had be much more sensible and showed some care toward Corrine.
“She’s doing fine.”

Juniper, who was eating something, mumbled with her mouth full. “My dad hired the best nanny to take care of her and arranged lots of rehab for her.
In Juniper’s eyes, her father was the best dad.
But Cecilia felt uneasy.
The Johnson family wasn’t friendly to Corrine.
“By the way, my dad said he’s going to set up a blind date for Corrine.
“A blind date?”
Cecilia frowned, “Where?”
“Let me ask.”
Juniper quickly sent a message back, and the time was this afternoon.
Cecilia packed up early and went to the ce where Corrine was having the blind date.
But she didn’t barge in to interrupt. Instead, she found a secluded spot to sit and quietly listened to their conversation.
Although Corrine was somewhat reluctant about the blind date, she didn’t skimp on manners. She chatted with the man across from her, and the atmosphere was fairly good.
Until the man across from her said he hoped Corrine could bear him a
son.
His family had only one male heir for three generations, so they needed a son to carry on the family line.
Corrine asked just one question, “What if I never bear a son?”
The man replied without hesitation, “Keep trying. If there’s mill no
eventually, I’ll find another woman to bear one, then bring him back for you to raise.”
Corrine knew continuing this blind date was pointless.
