chapter272
Clearly, her attitude had shifted from moments before.
Wesley tightened his grip. “Luciano leaves tomorrow. If Ping’an can’t bear to part with him, would you go with him?”
His voice held a carefully measured tone, with a hint of hope-
Hoping for a different answer.
But Cecilia gave him another response.
“Of course.”
Wesley smiled bitterly. He’d known it woulde to this.
Yet he’d asked anyway, unable to resist.
As his grip loosened, Cecilia pulled away immediately.
Wesley sat alone in the living room. The sofa and carpet were strewn with Ping’an’s toys, mostly building blocks.
That little rascal truly adored blocks.
He’d surely grow into a clever child.
Shrugging off his coat, Wesley rolled up the sleeves of his iron–gray shirt and began sorting the blocks by shape and size.
When the maid moved to assist, he waved her off.
Minutester, another hand reached over, gathering distant blocks into
the basket.

It was Luciano.
He wore simple loungewear, his short hair neatly styled. At first nce, he truly looked gentle and handsome.
Simply put, a heartthrob.
No wonder Cecilia couldn’t forget him.
Wesley was distracted.
Luciano had nearly finished packing.
“Wesley, thinking about Cecilia?”
Luciano initiated the conversation.
Wesley snapped back to reality, picking up a building block beside him. His tone was t, “I was thinking she genuinely liked you.”
Luciano paused, “Liked?”
His expression clearly showed he knew nothing about Cecilia’s past feelings for him.
Cecilia never told him?
A ripple of unease stirred in Wesley, mingled with self–reproach.
He’d been careless, uttering those words.
If Luciano learned Cecilia had liked him too, wouldn’t that mean mutual affection?
Countless thoughts raced through Wesley’s mind.
He clumsily changed the subject, “When are you leaving?”

Luciano chuckled, “Kicking me out?”
He saw right through Wesley.
Wesley admitted inly.
“Of course. I dislike you appearing before Ci.”
He detested the phrase “rekindled mes.”
Luciano ced thest block into the basket. “So insecure about yourself?”
That didn’t sound like the Carlton Group’s CEO at all.
Wesley was about to speak when the butler announced, “Master Johan is here.”
As soon as Johan walked in, he saw this eerie scene.
He paused for a moment, guessing why these two could coexist peacefully.
But he simply couldn’t figure it out.
With his long legs, he strode over and asked, “What are you two ying at?”
Wesley and Luciano stood up at the same time.
Wesley handed the basket to the butler, while Luciano was about to head back to his room.
Wesley, thinking of Cecilia being in Gwendolyn’s room at that moment and not wanting Luciano to go there, took the initiative to speak.
“Care for a drink?”

Luciano halted in his tracks, while Johan had a look as if he’d seen a ghost.
In the end, the three men still ended up sitting together.
The wine was rich and fragrant.
They each took a small sip, yet no one spoke first.
After a few more minutes, Johan couldn’t stand the atmosphere anymore and finally spoke up, “So, what’s the rtionship between you two now?”
Wesley, I don’t want to see you right now
Luciano thought for a moment. “It’s because I’m staying over.”
He’s only off for the weekend and will be back to work soon, so saying he’s staying over is just right.
Johan was surprised. Based on what he knew of Wesley, he’d have just kicked Luciano out.
But now, letting Luciano stay here… he’s really changed a lot.
“I heard your mother’s setting you up on blind dates?”
Johan asked Luciano.
He’d once wanted to pair Cecilia and Luciano together, to fulfill Cecilia’s girlhood dream/
But life’s unpredictable–Cecilia still went back to Wesley.
Even so, Johan thought Luciano suited Cecilia better.
Luciano rubbed his temples. The topic gave him a headache. “She’s worrying over nothing.”

Wesley, though, perked up. “Mr. Wilkinson, if you haven’t found a match, I can introduce someone.”
He couldn’t wait for Luciano to date.
To marry quickly.
Luciano shot him a look. “No need.”
But Wesley cut in, “Men wed when grown, women marry when ready. Once you’re married, Mrs. Wilkinson will rx.”
Luciano scoffed. “You mean you’ll rx.”
Wesley chuckled, thoroughly pleased.
He already had someone in mind.
“I’ve got a cousin who just arrived from Hastbrook. Young, beautiful, quite capable too. She’ll be joining the corporation soon. If you’re interested, we can arrange a meeting.”
Johan propped his elbow on the table. “Wesley, you’re overthinking this. The only women qualified to marry into the Wilkinson family are those within the system.”
Whether or not they could advance Luciano’s political career was secondary–at minimum, they must hold government positions with clean family backgrounds.
Families like the Carltons? For the Wilkinsons‘ long–term interests, they wouldn’t even be considered.
