Shattered 265

At the dinner table, Gwendolyn insisted on sitting between Cecilia and Luciano for a sense of security.

Both Cecilia and Luciano instinctively tended to him.

Wesley watched them, the sight not sitting well with him.

    He burned with envy.

But he couldn’t take it out on the child, so he finished dinner with a nk expression.

Gwendolyn was especially clingy with Luciano and Cecilia, wanting the three of them together all the time.

At bedtime, she also wanted Cecilia and Luciano to stay with her.

    Cecilia felt a bit awkward.

Gwendolyn’s lips quivered, on the verge of tears.

Cecilia had no choice but to agree, lying on one side with Luciano on the other.

Satisfied, Gwendolyn held her dad’s hand with one hand and her mom’s with the other, feelingpletely secure.

After over an hour, making sure she was asleep, Cecilia quietly got up.

Luciano whispered, “Hurry back, or he’ll get angry.”

Cecilia ran her fingers through her hair. “Yeah.”

She returned to the master bedroom.

Almost as soon as she entered, someone pulled her into their arms.

Warm breath brushed the top of her head, apanied by the man’s slightly heavy breathing.

The disparity in strength made it impossible for her to break free.

The room was pitch dark, so she couldn’t see Wesley’s expression.

    “Let go.”

she said in a low voice.

Wesley could hear the impatience in her tone.

Jealousy gnawed at his heart, leaving it in disarray.

“Wasn’t it enough that he was with Gwendolyn?

Did you have to stay there so long?”

He couldn’t help asking, his voice thick with bitterness.

Cecilia stopped struggling. She let him hold her, her voice cold.

“Gwendolyn was frightened, he needs myfort, besides, didn’t Ie back?”

    “Cecilia.”

Wesley whispered, an unknown emotion spreading an ambiguous.

    vor.

He lowered his head, trying to touch her lips.

He wanted to kiss her, only this way could he ease the sour jealousy in

    his heart.

Cecilia couldn’t see it, but she felt it.

As his lips descended, she tilted her head slightly, dodging it.

    Wesley’s kissnded on her cheek.

    The ambiguous atmosphere became awkward.

And there was a hint of gloom.

    “Unwilling?”

    Heughed self–mockingly, “Because he’s here?”

Cecilia didn’t know why Wesley kept obsessing over her rtionship with Luciano, even though she had exined many times.

This time, she didn’t even want to exin.

“I want to sleep, can you let go?”

In response, her chin was gripped, and a forced kissnded on her lips.

    With restrained anger.

Cecilia struggled, but her body was pressed against the door.

Wesley advanced forcefully, his long legs pressing against hers, hisrge hand gripping her wrist, firmly controlling her in his palm.

    Cecilia simply couldn’t break free,

Fortunately, Wesley still considered the baby in her belly, his force gradually gentling.

    He missed her taste.

    Missed everything about her.

The deep–rooted longing etched in his bones blossomed into tenderness, soothing his jealousy.

    His grip loosened.

    Smack.

The p echoed sharply in the darkness.

Wesley ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek.

Getting hit was within his expectations..

“You’re carrying our child. Don’t exert yourself.”

Cecilia trembled with rage, her revulsion now unconcealed.

“Wesley, stay away. You disgust me.”

Her eyes downcast, the words fell like ice shards.

Wesley obediently stepped back, his demeanor softened perhaps by that kiss.

    Yet his reply still stung:

“Disgusted or not, you’re staying right here.”

    Cecilia flicked on the light.

In the sudden brightness, Wesley’s cheek bore her bright red handprint.

He moved past it as if nothing happened, ck satin pajamas rustling as he strode toward the bathroom.

“Time to wash up and sleep.”

That unruffled demeanor made Cecilia grind her teeth.

Deliberately wiping her mouth before him, she swept coldly into the bathroom.

    Wesley’s expression darkened instantly.

When Cecilia emerged freshly showered in white pajamas,

she found him reclining against the headboard.

    Every instinct screamed retreat.

Still, she approached the bed step by step.

    Shey down near the edge,

    putting maximum distance between them.

Wesley immediately pulled her close as hey down.

She rolled into his embrace, palm pressed against his chest.

His hand settled on her abdomen,

    now slightly rounded.

All Wesley’s agitation melted away–this woman carried his child.

    He shouldn’t have upset her.

He kissed Cecilia’s forehead before switching off the light, voice gentle.

    “Is our daughter behaving?”

Like Gwendolyn, he stubbornly believed Cecilia carried a girl.

Cecilia turned away, back facing him, silence hanging between them.

Wesley paused for two heartbeats before closing the distance, wrapping her against him.

    “Sleep.”

After all, they had all the time in the world.

Cecilia set her rm for five.

The moment it rang, she snapped awake.

Slipping silently from bed, Wesley hooked an arm around her waist and pulled her back.
