Shattered 261

    chapter261

    Johan clenched his fist, “I…”

“I didn’t know this would happen.”

He locked her in the old mansion, demanding atonement, but never intended to harm her hands.

“Johan, what’s done is done. What’s the point of saying this now?”

Corrine needed no feeble exnations. “You’d better stay out of my sight.”

Johan looked rather disheveled. “I’ll make this right.”

    He hurried away.

Corrine closed her eyes, her eyes welled up with moisture.

    Make this right?

He could never make it right.

Johan returned to the old mansion and summoned the butler, inquiring about Corrine’s stay.

The butler replied, “Wasn’t it your order, sir? To be harsh with Miss Corrine? To teach her a lesson?”

Johan frowned, having no memory of such instructions,

“I only told you to watch her. To have her copy Buddhist

    scriptures for my parents daily.”

The butler hesitated. “Miss Juniper said… since you’re married now, being too kind to Miss Corrine might upset the young mistress.”

Johan fell silent for a few seconds. “Juniper came here?”

He pressed further, “What happened to Corrine’s hands?”

    “Um… I don’t know.”

Johan raised an eyebrow. “Uncle Randy Torres, do you think the Johnson family no longer answers to me? That my words mean nothing?”

“Young master, I’d never dare think that,” the butler stammered fearfully.

He had watched Johan grow up, witnessed how he became an adult overnight after his parents‘ passing. There wasn’t even time to feel heartbroken for him–how could he ever ignore him?

“Butler, I suspect it was Mrs. Johnson,” the butler carefully worded his suspicion. “That day when she visited, she asked Miss Corrine to serve tea. The tea identally spilled on Mrs. Johnson’s clothes. She was furious immediately, saying Miss Corrine couldn’t even hold a teacup steady–that those hands might as well be useless.”

He didn’t dare say more, after all, he had no proof.

    But Johan understood everything.

He’d been traveling domestically and abroadtely, busy preparing for the wedding, and hadn’t returned here for quite

    some time.

He never expected Larissa toe here.

Even less did he imagine Corrine would be treated so harshly here.

Seeing Johan’s darkened expression, the butler lowered his voice, “The youngdy’s room has been prepared as you instructed.”

Johan snapped back to attention and followed him to the room upstairs.

It used to be a nursery.

Now, under Johan’s direction, most furniture had been reced. The tiny crib had be a two–meter–wide bed, and the pink curtains had been changed to pale blue.

“Sir, have you found the youngdy?” the butler asked from behind.

Johan withdrew his gaze, perfectly concealing all emotion.

    He replied evenly, “Not yet.”

He couldn’t drag her into his current situation.

The butler looked disappointed. “Well, then…”

Johan smiled bitterly. “I just thought… after all these years, my sister’s grown up. She should have a grown–up room.”

The butler nodded. That made sense.

Johan closed the door and ordered, “Keep it clean regrly. No one enters.”

    “Yes.”

Johan returned to the hospital and entered Larissa’s room.

Larissa’s eyes lit up seeing him. “Johan, you’re here.”

Johan stepped closer, looking down at his wife.

Larissa flushed slightly under his gaze, pushing herself halfway

“What… what are you looking at me like that for?“,

    The next second.

His hand mped down on her neck. She copsed onto the bed, gasping for air.

    “Jo… Johan!”

She wed at his hand, eyes wide with terror and disbelief.

    How could he… how…

Johan’s gaze turned cold and sharp–he truly meant to choke the life from her.

    “Bro!”

Juniper darted over, yanking Johan’s arm. “What are you doing?”

Johan released his grip, straightened up, and stepped back twice.

    Larissa coughed violently.

Juniper rubbed her back, ring furiously at Johan. “Bro, have you lost your mind?”

“You almost strangled Larissa just now.”

Larissa’s eyes filled with tears, her voice hoarse. “Johan, why would you do this to me?”

Johan snorted. “Larissa, why did you sneak to the family estate behind my back?”

Even though they were married, Johan never intended to bring Larissa to the estate.

Larissa touched her neck. Her husband had nearly choked her upon arrival, then interrogated her about the estate.

    Cold and heartless.

She propped herself up slowly, meeting Johan’s gaze. “Johan, you don’t actually like Corrine either, do you? There’s someone else in your heart.”

Johan’s pupils constricted instantly, his face expressionless.

Larissa thought about what she’d uncovered and nearlyughed aloud.

She loved Johan, truly loved him.

Corrine loved Johan too, knowing full well he despised her, yet she stayed in Aetherton.

But neitherpared to the woman who held Johan’s heart.

    ?

“Johan, that woman–the one you love–who is she?”

    Larissa demanded.

    She’d investigated, found nothing.

Only knew Johan wired money monthly to an ount.

A woman’s name was on that ount.
