Cecilia clutched her phone. “Corrine isn’t ‘others‘.”

    She hung up.

Early next morning, she finished breakfast and left Gwendolyn with Susan Torres before heading out.

At the police station, Corrine refused to see even her this time.

    Same statement: she pleaded guilty.

Cecilia had an officer ry a message.

[Does she really want me to go find Wesley.]

    Soon, officers ushered her inside.

Corrine looked better than her previous barely–alive state.

Seeing Cecilia, she blurted instantly: “Ci, don’t seek out Wesley.”

Cecilia had finally broken free from Wesley–why turn back now?

Cecilia sighed. “Corrine, you think I’d just watch you rot in jail?”

    Corrine’sshes trembled, tears spilling. “Ci.”

Covering her face, she dissolved into heart–wrenching sobs.

Tears welled in Cecilia’s eyes too.

She soothed her friend softly, “Let’s go home.”

    She proceeded with bail paperwork.

    Only the final signature remained.

A man carrying a briefcase entered, stating coldly: “My client opposes bail.”

    He was Larissa’swyer.

“My client ims Corrine has mental health issues. Three years ago she exhibited self–harm behaviors, and now she’s harming others. Bail poses too great a risk.”

Cecilia was furious and indignant. “That’s nonsense.”

“Ms. Zamora, you know perfectly well whether I’m speaking nonsense.”

    Cecilia had no retort.

Three years ago, Corrine had indeed attempted suicide. Even after Cecilia saved her, self–harm incidents recurred.

And now, three yearster, the assault was undeniable.

“She’s not mentally ill. I’ll vouch for her–this won’t happen again.”

Cecilia’s eyes fixed on the signature line of the bail form.

One signature could bring Corrine home.

“My client also states you’ve impersonated others for three years, Ms. Zamora. With such questionable integrity, you’re unfit as guarantor.”

    Thewyer’s words dripped with venom.

    Cecilia’s expression turned icy.

    Bail was ultimately denied

Staring at the police station entrance, she hesitated no longer

Driving toward Chaston Vi, her hands still trembled with perie.

Yet by the time she parked, calm had settled over her

She approached the entrance and pressed the doorbell

The maid answered, eyes widening “Ms. Cecilia.”

Stepping aside, she added, “The master is home.”

    Cecilia walked inside.

Wesley was on the balcony making a call, phone in one hand, his expression unreadable.

    Cecilia waited on the sofa,

Minutester, Wesley entered. Seeing her brought no surprise as he settled on the opposite end, waiting for her to speak.

Cecilia’s fingers curled slightly She lifted her gaze to meet his “Mr. Carlton, can you help get Corrine out?”

    Wesley’s phone rang again.

He raised a hand in brief acknowledgment, answering the call. A trace of resignation flickered between his brows

    “Understood.”

He stood, moving toward the door.

Cecilia rose after him. “Where are you going?”

Wesley turned halfway, eyes inscrutable, voice detached, “A banquet.”

    “A banquet?”

Cecilia hesitated two seconds before stating decisively: “Does Mr. Carlton need apanion?”

Ms. Johnson needed to offer terms tempting enough to sway me.

    She offered her help.

Wesley remained silent, just watching her steadily.

Cecilia felt a flush of embarrassment.

Counting the months, their divorce was already half a year past.

He owed her no obligation to help; any assistance would be a kindness…

…and between them, what kindness remained?

Besides, Corrine had hurt Larissa–the person who mattered most to Wesley.

“Change upstairs. I’ll wait in the car.”

    Wesley left after speaking.

    Cecilia released a long sigh.

Selecting appropriate attire, she changed quickly and hurried

    downstairs to the car.

Wesley nced sideways at her, then averted his gaze.

During the ride, Cecilia didn’t mention Corrine.

Exiting the car, she naturally linked her arm through Wesley’s, ying the perfectpanion.

    They entered the venue together.

Cecilia noticed the curious stares. Many men arrived withpanions, but Wesley was likely the first CEO to bring his ex–wife.

    Whispers and spection swirled.

Cecilia straightened her posture, ignoring them all.

    “Wesley!”

Larissa’s sweet voice rang out as she approached, arm–in–arm with Johan, radiating affection. “Your mother’s looking for you.”

She winked yfully. “See over there? The girl beside your mother? That’s your date for today.”

    Blind date?

Cecilia looked up at Wesley, releasing his arm.

“Sorry, I didn’t know you had a blind date today.”

Counting carefully, they’d been divorced for half a year. Wesley dating again was perfectly normal.

Yet hearing it suddenly stirred some indescribable emotion in her chest.

While dazed, Wesley spoke first: “Look around yourself. I’ll head over

    now.”

Cecilia nodded, watching him approach and chat with the girl beside

    Amelia.

Larissa remarked leisurely: “That girl’s the Wilburn heiress. Quite beautiful.”

Ignoring her, Cecilia turned to Johan: “Johan, Corrine has depression.”

Johan’s pupils contracted briefly before steadying. “What’s that to me?”

“You’ll push her to death like this.”

Just how much hatred did Johan harbor for Corrine to wish her dead?

Larissa disliked Cecilia mentioning Corrine before Johan, coaxing and pulling him away.
