Shattered 231`

    chapter231

He couldn’t help wondering if Cecilia felt blissful there with someone she loved.

    Would she think of him…

Smoke stung his throat, forcing a harsh cough. His eyes reddened further, glistening with unshed tears.

He pushed the door open and got out.

Elijah quickly handed him a bottle of water, “Wesley.“,

    Wesley waved his hand, declining.

He gradually stopped coughing, bent halfway at the waist, turned on his phone, and called Cecilia.

    “Where are you?”

In the background, there was the faint sound of wind.

    “Eating out.”

Wesley looked up again, his voice hoarse and painful as if scraped by a de from the smoke he inhaled.

    “With whom?”

    Cecilia answered perfunctorily, “With Gwendolyn.”

The phone emitted a/“beep beep” sound; Cecilia had hung up.

She didn’t want to say another word to him.

Wesley threw the phone back into the car, utterly dejected.

    Elijah watched, feeling heartache.

“Wesley, maybe we should head back first?”

    Staying here was simply self–torture.

“Open the car doors to air out the smell.”

Wesley straightened up and pulled open the car door.

Elijah paused for a moment, realizing Wesley intended to wait here for Cecilia.

    He sighed inwardly, “Why bother?”

With all the car doors open, the smell of smoke gradually dissipated in the night breeze.

Half an hourter, the Ferris wheel made another full rotation and slowly descended.

Wesley sat in the car, his expression cold; no one could tell that just half an hour ago he had been in extreme agony here.

Two adults and one child walked out side by side.

Noah held Cecilia’s hand with one hand and Luciano’s with the other, hopping along with pure joy.

Two girls walking ahead secretly snapped photos of them with their phones, quietly squealing.

    “That family is so good–looking.”

    “They seem really happy.”

Wesley’s heart was aching with countless wounds.

As they approached, he pushed the car door open and stepped out, hands in his pockets, posture straight and tall.

A faint smile touched his thin lips. “I’m here to take you home.”

    His eyes fixed on Cecilia.

Cecilia merely nced at him before looking away, showing no trace of guilt.

    Wesley’s smile stiffened.

Noah broke free from his parents‘ hands and dashed toward Wesley. “Wesley! Mommy and Daddy took me on the Ferris wheel!”

    He beamed with childish pride.

Wesley ruffled his hair without speaking.

Noah asked innocently, “Wesley, can Daddye live with Mommy at your house?”

The boy didn’t understandplicated grown–up stuff, he just wanted both parents together. Since Mommy lived with Wesley, he needed Wesley’s permission.

Hope shone brightly in his eyes.

Wesley’s heart kept bleeding; words failed him.

Luciano walked over, scooped Noah up, and patiently exined his uing trip.

“Be good for Wesley and take care of Mommy, okay?”

    Noah nodded obediently.

    “I’ll listen to Wesley.”

“I’ll protect Mom and my sister.”

He reached toward Wesley, “Hug, Wesley?”

Wesley remained silent for two seconds before lifting him up.

    Luciano waved and departed.

Wesley settled Noah in the car and shut the door, turning to Cecilia.

    “Weren’t you having dinner?”

Cecilia knew he wanted exnations, but she couldn’t be bothered.

    She had personal freedom.

As she moved toward the other car door, Wesley seized her wrist.

Cool detachment lined his brow, his eyes holding a warm yet distant glimmer–seemingly calm yet edged with frost.

    “Aren’t you going to exin?”

    Cecilia’s lips curved, herposure unbroken.

“When you left Noah alone for his reexamination, didn’t see you giving me any exnations either.”

Since he felt their current rtionship required no ounting, her dinnerpanions concerned him not at all.

He had zero right to demand exnations.

“An urgent meeting came up at the office.”

Wesley exined, “I left in a hurry–left my phone in the exam room.”

He’d been in meetings all day.

    Cecilia offered a t “Oh.”

    She didn’t care.

    Nor needed his justifications.

Wrenching her wrist free, Cecilia entered the car from the opposite side.

Wesley still carried a faint scent of smoke as he moved to the passenger seat.

The atmosphere in the car hung heavy and silent.

Elijah didn’t dare even breathe loudly.

Wesley watched Cecilia through the rearview mirror; her eyes were downcast as she half–cradled Noah.

The gentle radiance of motherhood shone through herpletely.

Was she also reluctant to let go,after Luciano left?

    !

Jumbled thoughts churned relentlessly in his mind.

This continued until they returned to Chaston Vi.

    His thoughts remained tangled.

Noah had fallen asleep during the ride.

    Cecilia moved to wake him.

    Wesley murmured, “I’ll handle it.‘

He carried Noah inside and handed him to the maid.

Cecilia didn’t argue. She went upstairs to change.

Entering the bedroom and just about to close the door, Wesley squeezed in behind her.
