Shattered 209

    Chapter209

She waved her hand, looking disappointed.

“Since Ms. Wilburn won’t do it, let’s have the staff take the photo instead.”

“Otherwise, someone might say I’m bullying people again.”

At that moment, Wesley was all patience and indulgence toward Cecilia. He looked at Larissa. “Larissa, it’s just a photo.”

He wanted a photo of Cecilia in a wedding dress.

Even though there were two outsiders in the picture, he was already

    content.

Larissa could only take a perfunctory photo with her phone, but just as she was about to put it down, Cecilia spoke again.

“Take a few more, please. Otherwise, if they don’t turn out well, I’ll have to trouble Ms. Wilburn again.”

“So, Ms. Wilburn, please try to take some good ones, or I’ll have to keep bothering you.”

Larissa, feeling aggrieved, had no choice but to take a few more photos, though her attitude improved a bit this time.

Cecilia looked through the photos. The first ones weren’t good, but theter ones were barely/eptable.

    Her goal was achieved.

There was no need to drag things out any longer.

Wesley followed behind her, lookingposed. “I’ll drive you home.”

Cecilia was about to refuse, but noticed that the car that should have been parked at the door was nowhere to be seen.

She didn’t need to think to know it was Wesley’s doing.

Just as she was about to speak, Elijah drove up, handed the keys to Wesley, and said to Cecilia, “Rest assured, I promise to get Ms. Morton home safely.”

Cecilia still wanted to talk to Corrine about Johan.

“Ci, go on home. I’ll make ns with youter.” Corrine didn’t want Cecilia to feel awkward.

She took the initiative to leave with Elijah.

Cecilia had no choice but to get into Wesley’s car.

On the way, Wesley didn’t mention that he had painstakingly chosen the wedding dress. Instead, he brought up Corrine.

“The marriage alliance between Larissa and Johan is already set by both families. You should persuade Corrine to leave Aetherton.”

Cecilia was already worried about Corrine, and Wesley’s words only made her feel worse.

She looked ahead, her voice calm: “If they want to get married, let them. Why should Corrine have to leave?”

That was what she said, but she knew that Corrine’s decision to leave Aetherton was most likely rted to Johan’s return.

Wesley stared at the traffic light ahead, a look of consideration between his brows. “If she’s here, Johan will target her.”

Cecilia thought of the way Corrine looked at Johan. She understood- that was the look of someone who had loved deeply and been hurt to the core.

“What… is their rtionship?” Cecilia was eager to know.

Wesley spoke in a low voice: “Corrine once lived at the Johnson’s mansion for a while. She and Johan had feelings for each other.”

Cecilia had already guessed as much.

“Johan’s parents‘ deaths are rted to her.” Wesley didn’t say much more; he just wanted Cecilia to understand how dangerous it was for Corrine to stay in Aetherton.

“Johan’s parents are dead?” Cecilia was surprised. “That day in the private room…”

“That was his uncle Holden. Juniper is his daughter,” Wesley exined. “The Johnson family does not wee Corrine.”

Cecilia understood. With the Johnson family returning to Aetherton, Corrine would be in a difficult position.

Wesley’s suggestion was, in a way, for Corrine’s own good.

She felt a bit grateful, and her tone was no longer as harsh as before.

“She was nning to leave anyway.”

Wesley responded with a faint “Mm,” and said, “It’s a smart choice.”

The car returned to Chaston Vi

Wesley considerately opened the car door and waited for Cecilia to get

    out.

He had no intention of going inside.

Cecilia didn’t invite him in, either.

She changed her shoes and headed to the living room, but suddenly stopped in her tracks, stunned.

In front of therge floor–to–ceiling windows in the living room stood the wedding dress she had just tried on.

In the setting sun, the dress shimmered withyers of pearly white light, its hem and train spread out over a bed of rose petals.

It looked just like a woman’s most beautiful dream.

Wesley hade in at some point. He embraced her from behind, his voice tender.

“This wedding dress belongs to you alone.”

He had instructed Elijah to deliver it.

Elijah was efficient and had managed to deliver it before they arrived.

Cecilia looked at the wedding dress, her eyes growing moist.

    It was toote.

She hadn’t had these things when she loved him most, and now she no longer wanted them.

    “I don’t need it.”

She refused, turning to break free from Wesley’s embrace. “You should go.”
