Shattered 202

“She was my grandfather’s other apprentice. No wonder my grandfather once said you had a familiar style about you.”

Cecilia had long suspected this possibility.

Eldridge exined, “I wanted to tell my grandfather about this earlier, but his old illness red up recently, so I didn’t dare. It was only yesterday that I told him the news.”

Otherwise, Sir Livingston would have wanted to meet Cecilia.

Cecilia didn’t mind. In her view, her teacher had already passed away, and the favors left behind in life were not something to force.

“Is Sir Livingston all right?” she asked.

“Much better. He originally wanted to meet you, but then heard you were hospitalized.” Eldridge gave a wry smile. “Just bad timing, I suppose.”

“Once I’m feeling better, I’ll go visit Sir Livingston.”

Eldridge nodded. “Gwendolyn was extremely talented in perfumery. She created many perfumes herself. I remember she even wrote a book of forms.”

He sighed, “Now that book of forms is in your hands. You can go even further on the path of perfumery in the future.”

Cecilia frowned slightly, puzzled. “What forms?”

Eldridge paused, a bit surprised. “Gwendolyn’s notes. She didn’t give

    them to you?”

Cecilia shook her head. She had never heard of any notes.

When she and Prisci learned perfumery, Gwendolyn always taught them hands–on.

She had never shown them any notes.

Eldridge was silent for a few seconds, his gentle face full of regret. “Maybe Gwendolyn thought you learned well enough, so she didn’t give you the notes.”

He then brought up another matter. “My–grandfather was very saddened by the news of Gwendolyn’s death. From what I gather, he’s nning to take on onest apprentice.”

His eyes were full of anticipation. “Cecilia, I hope you can be my grandfather’s apprentice.”

“When?” Cecilia felt a bit excited.

She hoped her perfumery skills could improve further. Being able to study under Sir Livingston would be an honor.

“Grandfather wants to hold a perfumepetition to select qualified people.” Eldridge exined to Cecilia in detail. “Once the date is set, I’ll let you know.”

Cecilia was about to agree when Wesley’s voice came from the doorway.

    “She won’t participate.

The smile faded from Cecilia’s face.

    Eldridge was displeased with Wesley.

He believed Wesley was holding back Cecilia, who could be a future master in the world of perfumery.

His previously gentle expression instantly turned cold.

“Mr. Carlton, this is Cecilia’s business. She can decide for herself.”

The implication was that Wesley was meddling.

Corrine didn’t like Wesley either, and chimed in, “You’re already divorced from Ci. You have no right to interfere with her.”

Wesley said calmly, “She’s pregnant. She should avoid contact with those fragrances.”

Some fragrances are absolutely forbidden for pregnant women, even in the smallest amounts.

Eldridge and Corrine were instantly silenced.

The safety of a pregnant woman wàs most important.

Cecilia ignored Wesley and said only to Eldridge, “Let me know when the date is set.”

Eldridge quickly agreed. Even if she didn’t participate, it would be good for her to attend.

He didn’t like Wesley, and since everything was settled, he left first.

Corrine was still sitting there, unmoving.

Wesley nced over at her with a hint of displeasure.

Corrine turned her head away, pretending not to see.

Cecilia knew Wesley wanted to talk about that matter. She patted Corrine on the shoulder. “Corrine, you have a lot to do at the shop.

    You should head back.”

Only then did Corrine reluctantly get up, deliberately saying, “Some people can’t be counted on. If you need anything, just call me.”

Cecilia knew she was referring to Wesley and agreed with a smile.

    Corrine snorted and left.

Johan happened toe in at that moment. The two met at the door and both stopped in their tracks.

A surge of emotion welled up in Corrine, and she clenched her fists.

Cecilia saw her standing there motionless and asked what was wrong.

Corrine came back to herself, her tense body slowly rxing. She said it was nothing and brushed past Johan.

She didn’t look at Johan again.

Johan walked in with his usual expression.

He looked at Cecilia and apologized to her: “That incident was Juniper’s doing.”

He gave a helpless, bitter smile. “I know she has hurt you again and again, and it’s unforgivable, but I still came, hoping you could forgive her.”

Juniper knew Cecilia was resting, so she secretly bribed a staff member to get a room card. Her original intention was to get rid of the child in Cecilia’s belly, but unexpectedly, Cecilia almost fell from the tenth floor.

Cecilia looked up at Wesley, her expression half–smiling, half- mocking.

“So, you’ve figured it out? It wasn’t me staging it myself?”

Wesley’s thin lips pressed together; he had wrongly used Cecilia.
