Shattered 144

“It has nothing to do with me!” Juniper panicked.

She reached out to grab Wesley’s arm, pleading cautiously, “Wes, this really has nothing to do with me.”

Amelia also tried to speak up for her.

Wesley’s patience waspletely exhausted. What he needed was a sensible, obedient wife, not someone like Juniper who didn’t know her own limits.

After so many incidents, she had worn out all his patience.

“I’ll call your father and cancel the engagement.”

He instructed Elijah to clean up the scene, then left directly.

Prisci paid no attention to what happened with the engagement ceremony afterward.

Luciano took her to a nearby cafe.

Luciano ordered her a hot cocoa. “Sorry, I thought he would change his mind.”

He hadn’t expected to hurt Prisci.

Prisci held the hot cocoa, lost in thought.

Luciano said nothing more, letting her process those negative emotions on her own.

No one knew how much time passed before her curledshes

finally trembled, and her stiff movements softened.

“Let’s go back.” she said softly.

But Luciano pulled her back, gently asking, “Prisci, can you tell me about Noah’s mother?”

Only two people in love would have a child, he thought. He must have loved her once.

Prisci closed her eyes, her fingers trembling slightly as she took a sip of hot cocoa.

She spoke slowly, “She was a very gentle girl. Because her family favored boys over girls, she lived with her grandparents from a young age.”

“Growing up, she was ridiculed, bullied, even tormented, but she always stayed positive and optimistic. Later, she met you.”

“You helped her a lot. You fell in love, andter she became pregnant with your child. On the eve of giving birth, you said you had to go home for a while. After she gave birth to Noah, a flower shop in town caught fire two weekster. She died in the fire, and you never showed up again.”

Those past events could be summed up in a few words, but they could never capture the despair and helplessness of that

    time.

Even now, whenever she thought of it, she could still see the raging mes from back then.

    That fire changed her life.

In Luciano’s mind, an image appeared of a woman in a white dress and sunhat, but her face was a blur.

Prisci looked down at her coffee cup, her eyes moist. “After she died, I went to the hospital to find the child, only to learn that you had taken him away. I don’t know why you suddenly took the child, or how you lost your memory.”

“I don’t want to know any of that. All I want now is to take good care of Noah. That was herst wish.”

“I owe her a life, so I must save Noah’s life.”

So even if Wesley looked down on her, she had to return to his side, to fight for a chance at life for Noah.

With just a few words from Prisci, Luciano felt as if all the sorrow in his heart was about to overflow.

Even if the memories were gone, that bone–deep pain still echoed in his blood.

“What was her name?” he asked, clenching his fist.

“Her name?” Prisci murmured those words. “You’ll know

    one day.”

    Wesley returned to Chaston Vi.

A servant came up to take his suit jacket. “Ms. Wilburn is in the room.”

Wesley was momentarily stunned. “She’s back?”

He had thought… he had thought she would nevere back

    here.

Unable to suppress the joy in his heart, he hurried upstairs,

pausing briefly at the door before pushing it open with a calm expression.

Prisci was leaning against the headboard reading. When she heard the sound, she only nced up before lowering her head again.

Wesley walked over and bent down to kiss her.

Prisci didn’t refuse; she even took the initiative to wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him back.

But Wesley wouldn’t go any further. He pulled away from her lips, holding her chin as he stared at her fair face.

    “So forward?”

This wasn’t like her at all.

In three years of marriage, she had never let herself go, let alone taken the initiative in bed.

Prisci turned her head and smiled lightly. “Would you rather

I coldly rejected you? I can act that way too.”

    Wesley’s heart twisted with pain.

She was bluntly telling him she was just acting.

It was as if her next words would be: she could act however he

    liked.

Wesley lost all interest. He sat on the edge of the bed, his face dark.

Prisci pulled her slipping clothes back over her shoulder, her expression calm. “I want to go to the hospital to be with
