Shattered 33

    Chapter33

He knew nothing, yet once again he had suspected that she was faking her illness.

He put down his phone and wearily rubbed his brow

    Prisci, where are you?

    Two hourster.

Prisci had no idea that Wesley’s people were turning the city upside down to look for her. She crouched at the stairwell. Her eyes were wide and dry. She wanted to cry but couldn’t shed a single tear.

She looked down at her badly swollen ankle and finally turned on her phone.

After all, it’s her own body–she had to care for it by herself.

She called Corrine and asked her toe and pick her up.

“Where are you?” Corrine’s tone was a bit strange.

Prisci told her where she was and slowly stood up.

Corrine was silent for two seconds, as if wanting to say something, but suddenly the call was cut off

Before Prisci could figure out what had happened, the door to the emergency stairwell was pushed.

Wesley stood at the door with no expressions. His perfectly pressed suit was now wrinkled in several ces. Two buttons were undone, a disheveled look that didn’t match his usual image.

Corrine stood beside him, looking both guilty and worried.

    Wesley took a step forward.

    Prisci took a step back.

Her heel hit the step, sending another wave of excruciating pain through her.

She simply gave up and sat down, her voice muffled: “My foot hurts too much. I can’t walk for now.”

    Wesley’s throat felt unbearably dry.

    “Prisci ”

He crouched down in front of her and gently rolled up her pant leg. The swollen ankle was shocking to see

    His chest tightened.

Her injury was much more serious than he had imagined.

“Don’t worry. I’ll leave as soon as I feel a bit better” Prisci gripped the railing, and her indifferent gaze fell on the top of his head. “After all, we’ve been married for three years. Surely you can spare me this little bit of time.

“You don’t have to leave.” Wesley smoothed down her pant leg and his eyes turned dark. “I’ll take you to see the doctor.”

Prisci shifted to the side, avoiding Wesley’s hand. “No need to trouble you, Mr. Carlton Corrine…”

Wesley pressed his lips together and picked her up.

Prisci lowered her eyes, her nails digging into her palm. “Sorry for

    the trouble.”

Wesley paused, his heart aching slightly

In the hospital room, the nurse came to give Prisci a second treatment. Even the slightest touch to her ankle caused intense pain. but Prisci didn’t make a sound. Only the thin sheen of sweat on her forehead and her increasingly pale face revealed how much she was suffering.

Wesley’s frown deepened and his voice tauted: “Be gentle.”

The nurse felt a bit wronged; she was already being as gentle as possible.

Prisci gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s okay, I can handle it. It can’t hurt more than before anyway

    Wesley’s heart throbbed with regret.

After the treatment, Prisci half–reclined on the bed, quietly watching Wesley

Wesley held a damp towel and silently wiped the sweat from her face, bit by bit.

“About the press conference–I wrongly used you.” He spoke first and his voice was full of pain and remorse

Only then did Prisci realize why he had changed his mind and allowed her to stay here.

But apologies after the fact couldn’t make up for the harm he had caused.

Especially when it happened again and again.

“Then can you agree to get divorce?” Tears welled up in Prisci’s

    eyes.

All she wanted was to end this rtionship.

But because Wesley inexplicably refused, she had to continue to suffer in this marriage.

Last time, because of him, she was kidnapped and lost her child.

This time, again because of him, she was pushed and twisted her ankle, unable to walk.

What about next time? What new torment would await her….

Thinking this, the pain and grievance in her heart piled upyer byyer, and the urge to cry grew even stronger.

    Her eyes turned red.

“Wesley, in these three years. I didn’t just enjoy the wealth and as Mrs. Carlton for nothing.”

She spoke slowly and her voice was full of sorrow.

    status

The Holiday Series perfume line saved the entire fragrance division of the Carlton Group and brought in impressive revenue. That was her achievement, not something Wesley could erase with a single sentence.

Wesley’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he leaned over to brush a strand of hair from her cheek. “It was my fault. I shouldn’t have said those hurtful things.”

Prisci turned her head away, she didn’t like his gentle touch.

Every act of tenderness was always followed by unrestrained suspicion

    and hurt.
