There was a slight smile ying on Jonathan’s lips as he inquired, “Is something wrong with that, Anne?”

Anneliese faltered, worrying her lip. However, she did not hesitate to meet Jonathan’s gaze head–on before saying hesitantly, “I know I’m being a bit of a snake by talking behind someone’s back, but we’re friends. So… I’ll be blunt. Selina is trouble.

I swear she may act like some sweet, innocent thing, but she’s not. She’s not good enough for you. Yes, I know it sounds condescending, but hear me out, okay? She’s really good at getting people all wrapped around her finger. I don’t want to see you be another one of her victims.”

She sped her hands together nervously as she carefully scrutinized Jonathan’s face for any signs of dissatisfaction or disdain.

She didn’t want him to think that she was saying all those things just to sow discord, and she certainly didn’t want him to think that she was stepping out of line. More importantly, she was afraid that he wouldn’t believe her and be upset that she’d said those things.

To her surprise, none of that happened. Instead, there was a hint of mirth on his handsome face. Suddenly, he stretched his legs and leaned forward, closing the distance between them.

Anneliese couldn’t help but stiffen at his close proximity. Her already high–strung nerves shot. through the roof, causing her breath to catch as hershes fluttered slightly in difort.

She could see the tense expression on her face reflected in her dark eyes.

“Is that right? She’s a bad woman, you say? If that’s the case… who do you think is worthy of me, Annie?”

    Annie!

That was the nickname her friends gave her back in middle school.

It had been years since then, and everyone else had gone their separate ways. Now, Jessica was the only one who used that nickname.

So, why was he calling her that?

Plus, how was she supposed to know who was worthy of him?

Why was he even asking her this?

Anneliese was bluescreening. She was so flustered that she had no idea how to string words into coherent sentences. Just when she thought all was lost, she heard a knock on the door.

Her head immediately snapped to the source of the sound, and she saw Zion standing at the door with a tray. He was the one who had knocked earlier.

Anneliese’s shoulders slumped with relief as she said, “That smells so good.”

Jonathan shot her a look. Nevertheless, he said nothing, allowing the awkward topic to drop. Then, he straightened and waved Zion in.

Zion approached them and set the tray on the nightstand as he asked with concern, “Ms. ude, how are you feeling?”

“I’m much better now. Thank you so much for your help, Mr. Hand. I’m so sorry that you have to go to all this trouble when it’s already sote. Did you whip this up?”

“I’m not a good cook. Average, really. Mr. Fullbuster ordered this special meal just for you. I’m just the delivery guy. If you must thank someone, you should thank Mr. Fullbuster. He went all out for you, Ms. ude.”

When he said “went all out,” he was referring to the time Jonathan flew her to Riveraton himself.

Anneliese couldn’t help but feel somewhat put on the spot. “You’re right, I really should. It’s just that he’s got everything he could ever want, so I have no idea what I can do to show my

appreciation. It’s kinda stressing me out!”

Zion shot Jonathan a look before saying with a grin, “Mr. Fullbuster doesn’t have everything, though.”

    “What?”

“Isn’t it obvious what he’s missing?”

Anneliese blinked at Zion dumbly, still not getting it.

Zion sighed at her with frustration, feeling impatient with her dense behavior. “He’s missing a wife!”

Anneliese fell silent, utterly speechless by his answer.

To be fair, that was pretty obvious.

Still, how was that her problem?

“Are you saying I should introduce Mr. Fullbuster to some girls to spice up his love life or something?”

Jonathan instantly shot an icy re at Zion’s way. If looks could kill, Zion would be six feet in the ground.

Anneliese was so far off the mark!

It was obvious that he was trying to hint that she should volunteer herself for the position!

At this point, he couldn’t help but suspect that she was deliberately being obtuse.

Zion felt rather annoyed. Still, he wasn’t one to bottle negative emotions and implode once it got too much. He would much rather mess with the source of his annoyance.

So, he just went for it, half–joking, “Ms. ude, you could always volunteer for the position, you know.”

    Anneliese’s eyes widened in shock.

    How could he say that?

No one in their right mind would actually say it so bluntly, would they?

Did Zion get a side gig in the matchmaking business?

Anneliese had no idea how to respond. Fortunately, Jonathan saved the day by saying, “You can

    leave now.”

Zion wasted no time seeing himself out. He even closed the door behind him.

Jonathan picked up the bowl of chicken soup from the tray, stirred it gently with a spoon, and looked at Anneliese.

“About what Zion just said, you—”

Anneliese hastilyughed it off, cutting him off before he could finish his sentence, “Don’t you worry. I know we’re just friends. I would never dare to overstep or even consider-”

She had assumed that Jonathan was trying to warn her off. s, her words of titudes were silenced before she could finish them.

    “You could.”

    “What?”

Jonathan met her rattled gaze with calm eyes. He sounded as though they were merely discussing the weather as he said casually, “I’m saying that you should consider Zion’s advice.”

Anneliese’s eyes went as wide as saucers, staring at him in disbelief.

His words came out of left field, leaving her stunned. She had no idea what to think.

In all honesty, she couldn’t help but wonder whether this was some sort of fever dream.
