Zacharias watched them hugging andughing right in front of him, their eyes meeting with a yful, knowing intensity.
When he saw Anneliese’s pale skin flush a delicate pink, a mix of jealousy and anger red in his gaze.
“Let go of my wife!” Zacharias shouted, stepping forward to grab her.
Jonathan had already released her.
Zacharias did not even register on Jonathan’s radar.
However, he did not want Anneliese to be stuck between a rock and a hard ce because of him.
Still, he came up with a little idea when he let her go.
He looped his long arm around her, guiding her to his right and slightly behind him.
Anneliese was fast. She slipped instinctively to Jonathan’s side and stayed just out of Zacharias‘ reach.
Zacharias grabbed air, and Jonathan’s hand caught his.
“Trying to grope me, Mr. Shaw? Feeling overly friendly today, are we?” Jonathan said smoothly.
Zacharias twisted his hand, locking fingers with Jonathan in a tense grip.
“Mr. Fullbuster, you’re making yourselffortable. Even our marital matters seem to interest you.”
The two men tested each other silently, veins rising along their hands and arms, suit jackets stretching over hard muscles.
The tiny spark of rivalry, the tense energy of confrontation, made Zion tense with

Zacharias froze, stunned. The blow to his pride was sharp. He could fight all he wanted, but if Anneliese was going to another man willingly, there was nothing he could do about it.

Jonathan let go of Zacharias‘ hand and smiled at Anneliese.

He stepped forward, cing himself slightly in front to shield her.
Zacharias‘ handsome face darkened. He stared as she fell into step beside Jonathan.
She didn’t nce back once. He felt invisible, like a shadow left behind.
He couldn’t hold it in. His voice dropped low and rough.
“Anneliese, you should exin. What’s going on between you two? Are you living together?”
He had seen Jackie’s investigation; he knew she lived alone.

Seeing him step out had shaken him, and now their side–by–side departure pushed him past his limit.
Anneliese tried to control her temper, keeping her dignity intact.
But Zacharias crossed the line. She spun sharply on her heels and pped him hard across the face.
The sharp impact made him flinch slightly.
Her eyes were icy.
“Do not tell me what to do. I owe you no exnation. Even if I am living with another man, it’s just fair, because you did the same. I would be repaying the favor in kind. Why are you angry? Also, the fact that you think I’d do the same thing as you is projecting. I’m not as low as you think. You might be ruled by nothing but your animalistic tendencies, but I have my own morals.”
Her fury left a red mark on his pale cheek. Yet he stared at her and smiled.
“Anne, feel better now?”
She froze.
It was unbelievable.
That whole episode was for nothing. Instead, Anneliese was disgusted.
She turned coldly and slid into the car. Zion immediately drove off.
Once they left Maple Bay, the silence inside the car felt overwhelming.
Anneliese felt humiliated, but the quiet made her emotions grow, so she spoke.
