Chapter 121 Bidding

The auctioneer’s voice surged with excitement, and murmurs spread through the

    room.

The pink diamond’s value was obvious. Nobody expected the bidding to climb this high.

“Why are you still raising the bid…”

Anneliese leaned forward anxiously, gripping Jonathan’s paddle hand tightly.

Her hands were still icy, even though her health had mostly recovered.

The sudden chill pressed against his warm hand, sending a shiver of tingling heat through him.

Jonathan tightened his grip instinctively, resisting the strange sensation.

Goosebumps rose along his wrist even under the cuff of his sleeve.

His body reflected his feelings openly and intensely.

He braced his elbow on the table, leaned closer, and asked, “Hm?”

Anneliese realized something. Jonathan came from wealth. He probably grew up handling jewels and diamonds like toys.

He could not be unaware that the pink diamond’s price had already soared. This could only mean…

“You realized Zacharias is bidding too? You’re helping me.”

Her eyes widened in recognition as she looked up at Jonathan.

She had not noticed how close he leaned. Their breaths mingled. If she moved slightly, she might brush against the curve of his lips.

Anneliese froze. Jonathan froze too, seemingly more startled than she was.

The screen disyed a full 360–degree view of the pink diamond. Light from the jewelrymps danced across its facets, casting shimmering reflections into Jonathan’s eyes.

His eyes looked deep and mysterious, like a falling gxy.

Anneliese held her breath until the auctioneer’s voice cut through the tension.

“Eight million! Lot 34 bids eight million, eight million once! Eight million twice! Will Lot 1 raise the bid?”

Jonathan reacted first, lifting the paddle with her hand still holding his.

“Ten million! Lot 1 increases to ten million! Wow, this really is a remarkable pink diamond.”

The rhythmic voice of the auctioneer pulled Anneliese back to reality.

She quickly pulled her hand away and tugged at Jonathan’s sleeve, anxious.

“Stop. You don’t need to bid more. Besides, even if he wins the diamond, it might not be for me. Maybe he’s giving it to an old me.”

She understood what Jonathan was doing. Jonathan was bidding because she didn’t want the diamond. Zacharias, however, was determined to reim it and likely return it to her.

Jonathan and Zacharias were now at odds.

Spending ten million on a diamond worth far less seemed reckless.

Jonathan gave her a reassuring look.

    “It’s fine.”

Over at Lot 34, Zacharias‘ face darkened.

Selina frowned beside him, ncing toward Anneliese and Jonathan.

Zacharias had been determined to reim the pink diamond. He was willing to pay ten times its value. Now, the Lot 1 bidder interfered.

It was only a pink diamond, yet two men were battling over it.

Zacharias felt anger and frustration boil inside him.

He had assumed reiming the wedding diamond would be simple. He did not expect this opposition.

The man at Lot 1 was obviously challenging him.

Zacharias was a shrewd businessman who never acted against his own interests.

Normally, he would have stopped long ago.

But the memory of Anneliese’s attitude, Jonathan protecting her at the police station, and her calm congrattions when he became a father put a heavy tension on his chest

He would do whatever it took to reim their wedding diamond.

He wanted to recreate the ring exactly and ce it back on Anneliese’s hand.

    She could only be his.

He raised his paddle again. Selina grabbed his arm.

“Zacharias, Lot 1 is doing this on purpose. Maybe we should let it go. We can find another diamond for Anne.”

“No! It has to be this one!”

    He yanked his hand free.

    He raised the paddle firmly,

    “Fifteen million.”

“Lot 34 bids fifteen million!” The auctioneer’s voice rang out, barely finished before continuing.

    “Lot 1, twenty million!”

    Zacharias‘ expression darkened. “Twenty–five million!”

He gritted his teeth, eyes fixed on Lot 1. His sharp eyes seemed to fire invisible arrows through the screens toward his opponent.
