Zacharias felt his whole body plunge into icy shock. His throat tightened, frozen with disbelief.
“Zacharias, stop talking and get Coral to the hospital! She’s fainted!”
Lenora’s voice cracked with panic as Coral sagged limply against her chest.
Without hesitation, Zacharias bent, lifted Coral in his arms, and strode toward the exit, his face dark and unyielding.
Lenora jumped to her feet and swung at Anneliese. “Anneliese, why haven’t you signed the settlement?”
Anneliese anticipated the attack. She grabbed Lenora’s wrist, spun her sharply, and pped her.
Lenora stumbled into the table. Before she could regain bnce, Anneliese pressed her head down, ttening her face against the tabletop.
She then grabbed a cup of coffee and poured it over her.
“I know what you did, Lenora. Jameson’s your mom’s handiwork, and you led Jacques to me. I’ve only just realized you two really are a poisonous duo. If you don’t want to get involved and locked up like your mother, stay far away from me!”
Anneliese released her grip. Lenora, soaked and squinting through the mess, backed away under Anneliese’s imposing presence.
“You’ll see! I’ll make my brother divorce you!”
She spat the threat and fled.
Anneliese didn’t react. If Lenora could do that, she’d thank her. She walked calmly to the front desk and asked the manager to copy the security footage, just in case.
After leaving the café, she headed to Astoria University. In the archive room, Jackson was waiting outside.

“Anneliese.”
She blinked in surprise and opened the door for him.
His eyes immediately fell on the sketches left on the table.

“You’re drawing drone wing details? This is incredible. Can I take a closer look?”
Anneliese poured him a ss of water and smiled. “Just some sketches. Nothing secret.”
He picked them up. Even casually drawn, the precision and careful measurements were clear.
After a few moments, he pointed at her analysis of critical vibration speeds and discussed it with her, admiration evident in his eyes.
“You are too modest. You haven’t fallen behind at all in four years. You’re still amazing.”
Anneliese blushed under his sincere gaze. She waved her hands. “Did youe here for something?”
Jackson tapped his head and exined why he came.
His mentor, Professor Baltimore, had a new project and was short on staff. Hearing Anneliese was back, he requested her help with data collection and analysis.
Anneliese was surprised.
She had taken sses with Professor Baltimore but had worked more closely with Prof. Clocke since sophomore year. However, Professor Baltimore remembered her and wanted her assistance.
“Am I really suitable for this?”
“Absolutely. Professor Baltimore trusts your skills and your character. Since

Jackson winked. “Joining his team as my junior would be great too. Give it some thought. Professor Baltimore’s great too.”
Anneliese chuckled. “Fine, I’ll help tomorrow. Grad school with Professor Baltimore? Nah. I’m trying to win my mentor back.”
He looked disappointed but unsurprised.
After he left, she refined her sketches. She had to attend an auction with Jonathan, so she didn’t stay long before returning to Maple Bay.
She hurried to get ready. When she was almost finished, Jonathan’s message arrived.
‘Ready? The car is waiting downstairs.’
She opened her jewelry box, grabbed a pair of pearl earrings, and nced at her grandmother’s bracelet.
Something felt off, but she didn’t linger.
Jonathan’s guy was waiting for her. She closed the box, grabbed her bag and shawl, and left.
She moved quickly down the building steps and froze outside.
A tall man leaned casually against a ck Bentley, scrolling his phone with effortless confidence.
The watch on his wrist caught the sunlight, sharp and precise, reflecting across his sculpted features and high cheekbones.
Jonathan had said someone would pick her up, but he had not mentioned it would
be him.
