Chapter 128
Mason
I moved my chair from side to side. This meeting has been on for the past thirty minutes, and we have not finished the first agenda item of the day.
“If we invest 40% of the revenue back into this service, it will be better than waiting for the other service to bring in ie,” Thomas said.
I leaned into the chair, watching him move slides from the projector.
“You said that before, but I can’t agree with that.” Mr. Damian said. He turned to look at me, “If we do that, the old service would suffer. I’d suggest investing heavily in them for the next two months, and we’ll know what to do with the proceeds afterwards. That’s if there are any.”
“Are you suggesting that there may be no profit?” Mr. Thomas asked, obviously pissed.
“That’s not what I meant.”
I cleared my throat, not ready to go down another banter from these two. I have no idea why they can’t agree with each other. Thomas returned his attention to me. ced both his hands over the other and looked, “What do you think?” He asked.
I was about to respond when my phone beeped, but I ignored it. I am known for not allowing any interruption during important meetings like this. “We should go with Mr…” The phone beeped again, and I paused, reaching for it.
It could be an important message.
“You mean mine, right?” Mr. Damian asked.
“He hasn’t spok-” I lifted one finger, shutting them both.
It was a message from Mia. I rose to my feet, pushing back my chair roughly. “The meeting will be held in three hours.” I started walking towards the door.
“But… we…” Mummering ensued; those present were surprised, but I could also sense curiosity. This wasn’t something I did often.
“We can’t-” I turned just as Thomas began to speak. I creased my brows, hoping he’d repeat himself. But he didn’t.
Instead, he bowed slightly and said, “Okay, sir.”
Daniel walked behind me, struggling to keep the same pace as me.”
“What happened? Why adjust the time for a meeting already in session? This isn’t like you.”
“I owe you no exnation,” I said, grinning as I increased my pace. When we got into the car, I gave him the name of the restaurant Mia had told me about. She was having lunch there with Lydia.
“But we just had lunch earlier.” Daniel winced. “It’s not for us,” I said. “Huh?” A confused Daniel held my gaze briefly through the rearview mirror.
One of the advice I got from Zoe was to let Lydia be for a while. Give her the space she needed, and while at it, try to win her over subtly.
Getting Mia to help me on it wasn’t too hard since she wanted me to get together with Lydia. In her words, she believed I deserved a second chance and would help in any way she could to ensure Lydia was happy again.
When we got to the restaurant, Lydia and Mia were already there. I was seated at the far end. My back to Lydia, but when I turned, I got a full view of her.
“We came for her?” Daniel whispered when he saw me staring over my shoulder for the umpteenth time. I ced a finger on my lips, “shhuuuhhh! 1 looked around, hoping no one heard him.
A waiter walked towards us with a menu in his hand. After cing my order, I asked for a te of Lydia’s favourite dish to be sent to her. “Tell her it’s on
1/3
19:19 Wed 20 Aug 1
the house,” I instructed.
銜
If she knew it was from me, she may not ept it. I didn’t want praise, just wanted to see her happy, even if it meant standing by the sidelines for now?
I watched Lydia’s reaction brighten as she received it, and then the confusion that followed. After the man left, I kept my eyes fixed on Lydia, and as though sensing my gaze on her, she turned to my direction, and I quickly looked away.
She shouldn’t know I was here.
“We don’t need to behave like thieves. If she sees us, we can just pretend like we came for lunch as well, after all, this restaurant wasn’t made for her
alone.” Danie said.
He was right, why was I sneaking around? There were others here, chatting and eating.
After lunch, I returned to the office eager to get my work for the day over with. I had my schedule for the next day cleared, I’d be spending my day with the twins.
It was the first time I was spending time with them since thest time I spoke with Lydia. I sent a silent prayer, hoping I would get to spend the day with Lydia as well.
However, much to my disappointment, she didn’t stay back. I was apanied by their nanny.
“Mason, you promised to y football with mest week and then disappeared. I thought you were tired of ying with us.” Liam wined as I drove them home after a long, adventurous day.
“I can never get tired of spending time with you. I had a lot going on,” I said.
“Does Mason work hard like Mom, too?” Mnie asked.
I can’t wait to be called Dad. Hearing them call me by my name made my heart ache, and I yearn to hear them refer to me as their father.
“Yes, I do.”
“What work do you do?” Liam asked.
“I run a business like your mom,” I answered in a soft voice.
“That means you have money just like mom, right?” I chuckled at Mnie’s excited voice.
“Mom has more money. You see, my mom is very rich, she can… Liam spent the next thirty minutes talking about how wealthy Lydia was and how he
found out.
“Mnie, you don’t look happy. Don’t you like the fact that your mom is rich?” I asked her. She hasn’t said a word since Liam began rambling, and her eyes held a hint of sadness in them.
“I am, it’s just that, I don’t like the fact that mom works too hard and has to be away most of the time. I want her to spend more time with us.”
“Yes, that’s true, Mom always looks tired. When I’m old enough to work, I’ll make sure mom never looks tired anymore.” Liam said, with a stern f
I smiled as I watched them from the rearview mirror.
“Do you know there’s something you can do now to make her not look tired all the time?” I asked.
They shuffled forward eagerly, “Really?” They asked at the same time. I nodded.
“Yes.” I responded, then continued, “Try not to stress her and always listen to her.”
After dropping them off, I gave them a box each, gifts I had picked out for them.

“Why are there three boxes? Who has the third box?” Liam asked.
“Give it to your mom.” I picked out Lydia’s favourite snack, hoping it would bring back sweet memories of us.
The next day, I sent a text to Mia, “Did I you receive the flowers? I sent them over an hour ago.”
Her reply came almost immediately, “Yes, I did, but she doesn’t like these ones.”
“What? Tulips are her favourite.”
“Not anymore, her taste changed.”
Oh! How didn’t I notice?
My eyes remained glued to my phone as I walked into my office, fingers dancing
on
the keyboard.
“You’ve been on your phone all through, found a new game?” Daniel asked. He knew I didn’t y games. “Not one I’d like to share,” I said, taking my seat behind my table.
“Boss, Miss Everett has been trying to reach you, she’s asking for your new number.” My number is the same.
“She’s blocked.” I said, lifting my head from my phone and pinning Daniel with an angry stare, “I told you to stop contacting her, didn’t I?”
“I swear, I didn’t try to contact her, she’s the one contacting me.”
“Then ignore her.”
“Okay, sir.” He moved forward and ced a file on my table. “You have a meeting tomorrow at the Modern World Hotel.”
“Why are you just telling me this?” I said, picking up the file and running my eyes through the content, a name caught my attention.
Alissa Brooks.
“Miss Alissa didn’t agree to the coboration on time.”
A smile crept into my face; she agreed now, which means I’ll be seeing her tomorrow.
Finally, I get to speak to her without being sneaky.
