Chapter 101
Chapter 101
Lydia
I never expected Zoe to tell Mason. A part of me suddenly wished there was another way to get a kidney, but there wasn’t
After the surgery, Zoe tried to speak to me, but I refused to see her. I had trusted her, and she went right back to betray me.
Again.
She sent a text, and as I walked out of Mnie’s room, I tapped on her message to reveal its content.
“Please let’s meet. I know you are angry, I told Mason, and I won’t try to convince you by telling you that he has the right to know. I had exceeded the line. It wasn’t my position to tell, but I want to set things straight.”
A loud ding and another message appeared, continuing thest one, “I thought long and hard, and the first thing I needed to do was to correct all lies, so I told him about the twins. I will be telling him the truth about who killed my stepdad.”
Another dinged, “I know what I will do may not correct the ruin. But I want you to understand that I’m truly willing to set things right, and the twins dèserve their dad’s presence in their lives. I’d be waiting for your reply. If possible, let’s meet
and talk.”
I twisted my lips to the side as I re–read herst message, “The twins deserve their dad’s presence in their lives.
I stood rooted to the ground, then closed my eyes and opened them. I understand that. But what she didn’t know was that their dad’s presence in their life may lead to danger, and that was what I was trying to avoid.
My line of thought was cut short when I felt Liam’s hand wrapped around my legs.
I looked down to find Liam staring at me with doe eyes.
“Hey, big boy.”
“Mom, I got you.” He giggled loudly. I turned off the screen of my phone and leaned down to carry him, cing his head on my shoulders.
“You almost gave me a heartache,” I said, stroking his back as I moved forward. I left him in Mnie’s room.
“I’m sorry about that, Mom.” I walked to the dining area and pulled out a chair. I ced him in the chair.
Mnie was discharged yesterday. Liam was the happiest. He spends a long time in Mnie’s room. Mnie still needed time to rest and recover, but that didn’t stop him from chatting with her, or more correctly, chatting to himself.
“Grandma, you made pancakes for breakfast?” Liam squealed. He liked pancakes, but Mom would always tell him he could only have them on special asions.
“I guess today is special.” He said, adjusting his chair.
“Of course, son.” Guess who’d be eating chocte today?” She ced two bars of chocte next to Liam’s te, making his smile widen

“Yey!!!”
We had breakfast together, chatting andughing. This was our little way of weing Mnie home. But it wasn’t </bplete yet since Mnie wasn’t with us.
I got a call at noon from Mia informing me about an emergency meeting. I had to break my n of no official work until Mnie is in her best health.
The meetingsted for over three hours. I stepped out of the meeting, massaging my shoulders with Mia walking right beside me.
“How’s Mnie? I haven’t been able toe over sincest week.” Mia had been doing all the work I was supposed to.
“I’m sorry, it must be overwhelming,” I said.
Our shoes clicked loudly on the floor. People bristled in the hallway with ID hanging over their necks, and they bowed in respect as I walked past.
Marcus is away for a business trip and will be back next week. “That jerk just has to be away now. Can’t we have the party without him?” Mia whined.
She got help from Marcus, and a type of friendship quickly blossomed between the two.
“He can join via video call.” Iughed as she spoke, going on and on about the various ways we can have the party without him, but somehow include him.
She opened the door, and I stepped in. Since I was already here, I decided to quickly get a few paperwork done. Mom was home with Mnie and Liam, and I thought it would be best to help relieve some of the work for Mia.
Immediately, I stepped in, and my foot got rooted to the ground. Mia closed the door and paused too.
“What are you doing here?” I asked and started walking towards my table. I sat behind my table and looked at Mia, who raised her hand.
“I had no idea that he was here.”
I do not use an open–door policy, so how the hell did he find his way into my office?
“Lydia, I know you do not want me here.”
“Should I call the security?”
“We need to talk, Lydia, please.”
N
“Mia, what are you waiting for?” I asked, raising my voice more than I nned to. I had no idea he was here. How did he know toe here? I have been avoiding him all along.
I’m not ready to speak to him. “Please, let’s talk, I did note with any intention.” He said.
Mia was already on the phone. “Mia. Don’t worry.” Maybe I should allow him to speak. It was the best time to clear whatever misconceptions he might be conceiving in his mind.
Chapter 101
I will never allow him to have ess to my children. They are mine, and if he wanted the sperm he contributed, then kil have someone pay him back.
The door opened and closed. Mia stepped out, leaving both me and Mason alone in the office.
I needed to stay calm. First I’ll listen to him and then I’ll make sure he understands that there is no need to pretend to care about the twins now. It was toote.
“What do you want?” I asked, pointing, swivelling side to side with my chair.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant the day I visited you and that it was mine?” I scoffed as I watched him act pathetically. “I had no idea about the pregnancy until the fire happened. I’m not going to lie, I thought it wasn’t mine. If I had known before, then I’d have-” I stopped spinning my chair around.
“You’d have what?‘ I cut him short, not wanting to hear any stupid excuse from him. “What? You had no idea I was pregnant and that the child was yours?” I raised a brow and let out a hystericalugh.
“That’s bullshit.” Mason stared at me as though he couldn’t recognise me. He didn’t know this side of me. This side is filled with pure hatred, anger, and all the other bitter emotions that I have bottled up within for years.
“I tried to tell you.” I stood, tears sliding down the side of my face as the memory that will haunt me forever came rushing
back into my mind.
“I’m pleased with you, Mason. I tried to reason with you, but you.” A sob cut through my throat, “But you refused to listen
to me.”
It was a cut that would bleed forever. The part of me that will never heal. Even if everyone doubted me, it shouldn’t have been Mason. “I loved you. I trusted you, but you?” I beganughing and took one more step towards him.
“You tossed me aside like I was nothing,”
“Don’t you dare say that, Lydia. You betrayed me first, I loved you and you just-”
“Tell a better lie, Mason. You cheated on me and abandoned me, hoping I’d rot in prison for the rest of my life. Who would do that to the same person they imed to love? Huh?”
I clenched
my
fist at my side.
“It was clear you had an affair with my stepdad. How was I supposed to endure that?”
“You still believe that?” It was as though I was stabbed in the same ce over again. “Even after five years, you ill think I slept with Jared, your stepdad?” What was expecting?
No, I expected nothing from him, so why does it still hurt like this? I support myself by cing my hand on the closest chair. He tried to reach for me, but I pped his hand away and raised my head, telling him to stay back.
“Even if everyone doubted me, not you.” I stood still. It was no use revisiting old wounds. It won’t change a thing and would only hurt more.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t believe you. I had no idea if I did, I would have been there for my kids.”

“It’s fine. You don’t have to apologise. We don’t need you in our lives.” He knows they are twins.
It was time to tell him what I wanted to do.
“We’ve been doing fine without you in our lives. They don’t need you now.”
“They are my kids too, Lydia, I have a right to them as you do,”
“No, you don’t.” Not after trying to kill them.
