Worst Fear 96

    Chapter 96

    Lydia

What are you getting at?” I asked, raising a brow. “Not everyone is as jobless as you, so if you can make this snappy, it would be

    easy.”

“Jobless?” She doesn’t like her new name, “Did you just call me jobless?” She questioned. I nodded.

“If you aren’t, then maybe you should do something better with your time instead of trying toy im to a man every given opportunity.” My tone was like that of a mother advising a child.

“I don’t care what you say, all I request is that you stay away from Mason. You are his past.” She lets out a low chuckle. “if you weren’t trying to get him back, why didn’t you tell me you were his ex–wife?” She closed her eyes briefly, biting the inside of her mouth.

When she opened her eyes, it was clouded with regret. “Was it fun watching me make fun of myself? At one point, I was even rooting for you.” From her eyes, it was clear she was reminiscing about all the times she acted stupidly.

“You can’t me me for that, you are the one who didn’t do proper research,” I said.

“You are his past.” She repeated that she was always saying this as if to remind herself that she is the one currently in his life.

“Yes, I know, his first andst love. You will never know what it feels like to be loved by Mason. That I can promise you.” Because he was still in love with me, I wanted to add that part, but saved it forter.

As if on cue, Mia stepped out of the car, walked around, and opened the passenger seat for me. Before I entered, I paused and turned back to the fuming Julia, whose fist was clenched by her side.

Her chest rose and fell, and one side of my lips lifted to the side.

“You don’t have to worry, nothing will happen between Mason and me, unless I want it to happen,” I said with a smile on my face. In trantion, ‘Mason is yours because I don’t want him back.”

We drove off, leaving her standing there. “Phew. She is such a nuisance.” Mia said.

    It began drizzling.

I leaned into the chair, resting my head on it.

Honestly, I didn’t want to pick a fight with Julia, and I was d she wasn’t part of those I needed to be worried about. She is a girl who is in love. Maybe if I were in her shoes, I’d do the same.

But what I can’t stand are those trying to bring me down with their words. I will never tolerate that.

Mia drove into the underground parking lot! The surgery was tomorrow, and I’d be staying in the hospital air rough.

Mia had offered to stay with me, but I couldn’t allow that. She had to oversee some contracts.

“I’ll work from here. I will not be at peace and be able to concentrate if I’m present with the twins.” She had said.

Mom was in the hospital. When I walked into Mnie’s room, she was fast asleep while Liam was on the couch drawing. When he saw me, he rushed over and I picked him up, nting a kiss on his cheeks.

    11:08 Sat, 2 Augu G

“Mnie has been sleeping all day. The doctor said she will be fine after tomorrow.” He said excitedly.

“I’m d to hear that.” I pretended that I hadn’t heard that before.

We had lunch together in the room, and the doctor came a few times to check up on Mnie.

be?” My mom asked and I nodded. The surgery was in the morning and I didn’t want to take a chance with

“Did you message Zoe?” Myr morning traffic.

Zoe sent me a text when she was at the reception. I went down to get her. Mom had already left with Liam. She would bring him after the surgery. I do not want Liam to see me pacing around the hospital’s hallway.

Zoe looked around the ce. She stood excitedly when she saw me. “Hey, good evening.” She greeted me.

“Hey.” I said back, “Come with me.” I turned around and began walking back to the room.

We took the hallway to the right, where the WIP rooms were. The hallway was empty, and my eyes trailed the white walls.

    “Hey, Lydia.”

“Hmm?” I paused when I didn’t hear her footsteps behind me. She had stopped. I turned around to see her pulling her hoodie.

    “What?” I asked.

There was no way she’d be chickening out right now. No freaking way.

“Are you sick?” Her voice was low as she took slow steps towards me.

    “Huh?”

“What’s wrong? Is it serious?” She reached to touch me, but I raised my hand, stopping her.

    “No, I’m fine.”

“Then why are we…” her words trailed, but Ipleted it in my head, “why are we at the hospital again?”

“I’m okay, but someone close to me isn’t. We are here for her.” I said, and her lips formed an oh.

“Who is this person?” She questioned, but I turned and resumed walking; she followed suit.

“You’ll see her tomorrow, for now.” I stopped in front of one of the doors. She would be sleeping in one of the rooms. “Here’s your room. It’s not asfortable as the room at the Wood’s mansion, but I think you can put up with it for a night.”

    “I can. Thank you.”

    “See you tomorrow.”

    Mason’s Pov

I scanned the document in front of me, nodding before flipping it to

“You did a good job,” I praised Daniel

“I knew you’d like it.” He said proudly. “The news about your coboration with Miss Alisen has gotten quite a

and entrepreneurs are watching closely to see where this idea will lead.” Daniel said.

“Oh really?” I asked, swivelling my chair from left to right.

Beads of water rolled off the ss. I stared into the rain pouring down.

It began raining fifteen minutes ago and showed no signs of stopping soon.

“Yes. Someizens are shipping you two together saying you look better with Lydia than with Julia.” I stopped swivelling my chaic

“Let me see.” I reached for the iPad and clicked on thement icon. I scrolled through thements, reading them.

“Okay, just by the way, Ican’t be the only one who noticed how good these two look together. Thisment had over 200ments beneath it, all agreeing to the fact that we did look good together.

“Miss Brooks is so much prettier than Julia. If I lose my crush to her, I won’t be too sad.”

“Julia doesn’t deserve Mason, Miss Brooks does.”

I read the entirement under the post, half of it was about the new coboration, while the other half shipped Lydia and me together.

I couldn’t help the smile that crept onto my lips. I wondered if Lydia had seen the post too. What did she think?

Daniel cleared his throat, jolting me out of my reverie.

“If you are done with the post, then, let’s go, the board is waiting,” Daniel said.

The meeting was sessful. I couldn’t help smiling all through. Even the inte thinks we are made for each other, so how was Lydia not seeing this?

“You are back to this again.” Daniel pressed on the elerator; he was driving me to my penthouse.

    You

    “Back to what?” I questioned.

“You know what I mean.” He insisted. “What do you mean?”

Our eyes met through the rearview mirror, and he shook his head.

    “Nothing.”

I looked out the windscreen, wiping the fog with my hand. Rain sttered across the road, the sound blending with the low roar of the engine.

What is Lydia doing currently? Has she left for the business trip? As much as I wanted to speak to her, I od it would be best not to reach out.

Lydia likes me too. It was clear from the way her body responded to my touch. She can deny it all she wants, but I was sure of that one fact. I can never be wrong about things like this.

Since she was away, I wanted to give her time. I’m sure she’d miss me. Distance, they say, makes the heart grow fonder. When she

returns, I wonder if she’d still be able to deny what she feels for me.

    I

Daniel killed the engine. “That was fast,” I said, without waiting for him to open the door, I stepped out.

While we were in the elevator, Daniel kept throwing nces at me.

    “Say it.”

    “Say what?” He asked

“Whatever is running through your head.” He pressed his lips together.

“I know it’s not my ce to ask, but…” he paused and inhaled sharply, “You are engaged, what happens when Miss Brooks agrees to return your affection? Would you keep her as a mistress or break off your engagement?”
