Worst Fear 92

    Chapter 92

    Lydia

I never expected Julia to keep to her words about sending the invitation until I saw the invite two days ago. I was expected to bring a date, and Marcus offered to apany me.

I always thought she was kept in the dark about my true rtionship with Mason, and the invitation she sent confirmed it.

Maybe Mason didn’t tell her about his ex–wife, but he had no reason to keep it a secret.

Mia picked my dress, and as she always did, she picked the best.

The party was about to begin when we arrived. My arrival was enough to grab the attention of everyone in the room. They all knew Lydia Mason’s ex–wife.

But Lydia was dead, which is why Alissa Brooks was unrecognisable.

I walked into the hall with Marcus by my side, smiling and saying a greeting to all I passed.

Mason pulled his mother away, and Julia followed suit. I knew he had no idea that I would being to the engagement party. I could tell from his message.

For a long time, I contemted sending a reply but decided against it. What better surprise than having him see me at the party?

I found a spot close to the ce where they were seated. I was soon swamped by people, mostly asslickers, trying to suck up to me while others were super curious about my rtionship with Marcus.

He was seen everywhere with me. I am surprised that it took this long before rumors began drifting around.

When asked about my rtionship with Marcus, I gave a vague answer, “About that, noment for now.”

I felt Mason’s piercing gaze on my back. It was time to say hi and congratte him on his engagement. I turned to him.

“Congrattions on your engagement,” and to Julia I said, “Thank you for inviting me.”

-The pleasure is mine, Julia answered, but her tone was sharp. The glee written over her features whenever she saw me was gone, now reced with something indecipherable.

Marcus stood beside me and ced his hand on the small of my back, and I saw Mason’s jaw tick.

“I hope your future together is filled with happiness,” Marcus said, the smile evident in his voice.

“Of course, it will be filled with so much happiness, so the past doesn’te to mind anymore,” Julia said, looking pointedly at

me.

Okay, maybe I was wrong. Julia actually knows about me and must have been pretending not to know, or she just found out about

    me

Her message underneath the words was clear, “You are his past and I am his future.

Well, dear girl, if only you knew I was in nopetition with you for his attention, cause it’s already mine. I smirked as I looked at her and that irritated her even more.

    Chapter 9:2

The party soon kicked off, and Mason made a show of cing a ring over her finger. Victoria kept ring at me frore stood, and I returned each re with a smile.

I took a cocktail ss from one of the passing waiters and raised it to my lips.

Iturned to find Zoe’s eyes pinned on me. She swallowed when our eyes met.

She stood and began walking towards me.

“Do you know her?” Marcus asked as Zoe kept crossing the distance between us. “She has been staring at you for a while now.”

“Yes. She is Mason’s sister,” I replied, twirling the ss I held

“Zoe,” I called out when she got closer.

“Hey!” She said when she stood closer. “I didn’t think I’d see you here.”

“The entire family doesn’t seem to like my presence here. Did you send an invite to mock me?” I questioned. She shook her head and waved her hand at the same time.

“No no, of course not.” She paused and looked around, “I’m just so happy to see you.” Slow music resounded in the hall and some people were beginning to dance.

“Hmm.” She looked between me and Marcus and then said, “Can I speak to you?”

    “Aren’t we doing just that?”

“I mean alone.” I settled my ss on the table between us. “I’ll give youdies a minute,” Marcus said and walked away.

“Hope whatever you have to say is important,” I said, watching Marcus’s back. She nodded.

    “Can we go somewhere quiet?”

She led me through the door I had seen Mason pulling Victoria through earlier.

“What do you want to say?” I questioned.

“You didn’t get back to me? I’ve been waiting for your message all week,” She said.

“I will when it’s the right time,” I said to her and she gave a slight nod. I could tell she had more she wanted to say, “go on. Say what you want to say.” I reminded her that I do not bite.

“About that day.” Her words came out slowly. “I have been thinking about it and…” she paused.

“Zoe!” At the sound of her name, she paused and turned around. Victoria stood behind us.

She red at me, “I see what you are doing” She sneered, “trying to manipte my daughter into lying.”

    “Mom, what are you saying?

“Shut it!” She snapped at Zoe. “You will not speak about that day. I forbid you from speaking to Lydia anymore.

“It’s Alissa.” I corrected her gently.

She snorted, Try as you want, you will never be able to change being Ly.” She said

    Okay, I was done here.

“Zoe, it seems our conversation will have toe to an end.” I started walking away, “Keep your words.

“I will. I’ll be waiting for your text.” She said behind me.

“What text? You won’t be seeing her. I forbid you from going to…” Her words trailed off as closed the door behind me. It took a while for me to calm myself.

My eyes wandered across the hall in search of Marcus. I found him speaking to some men.

Before I could take the first step, I felt his hand on mine, pulling me away with him.

“What are you doing?” asked as he led me out of the hall.

We stood in a dim hallway. “Why did you pull me away and-” My words were cut short when he stopped abruptly. My back hit the wall, and he stood in front of me, towering above me.

    *Mason, what if someone s

    sees us?” I asked.

He ced his head on my shoulder, “You’ve been ignoring my messages.”

“It’s your engagement today.” I reminded him in case he forgot.

“You’ve been on my mind all through Lydia.”

His hands found my lips, and he stroked the bottom lip. I suppressed a moan, having him this close to me was doing things to my body.

“Mason, are you even listening to me? I’m a guest at your party, and you should treat me like one.” I demanded, although I had no intention of pushing him off. I closed my eyes and tilted my head to the side when his lips met my neck.

He nibbled on my skin, and my breath heightened.

“You came with Marcus. Did you do that to make me jealous?”

“Why would I do that, you think too… AHH” I couldn’t suppress the moan anymore. My legs felt weak when his hand covered my breast, and he squeezed it lightly.

“I’m losing myself to you, Lydia. You have no idea what you do to me, even when you are far away, I don’t want to see you with Marcus.”

I finally got a grip on myself and pushed him off me.

“You have no right to say that to me,” I stated firmly. “Who I date or be with has nothing to do with you,” I stated. “You are engaged.”

    I

“You know I have a reason for being with Julia. She’s pregnant.” For some reason, I felt a crack in my chest.

I was pregnant too. You abandoned me and your twins, and now you are sticking with Julia and her fake pregnancy

I took a step back, shaking my head, “I’d appreciate it if you keep your hands to yourself, Mr. Woods. We can’t keep this up

    17:07 Sat, 2 Aug 14

Before he could say another word, I walked off.

I stepped into the restroom even though I wasn’t pressed,

I washed my hands and touched my makeup. I was about to leave when the door opened and she stepped in, locking the door behind her.

She crossed one hand over the other and red at me, “Hello, Mason’s past.”
