Chapter 87
Lydia
Marcus smiled, reaching for my hand. I don’t try to pull back. We just finished having the main dish.
The sky was stretched into infinity, dotted by stars. We were on the rooftop. Marcus had specifically picked this spot. He wanted us to watch the sky as we ate and chatted, and we’ve been doing just that all along
Nights like this, when I look at the sky, remind me of the nights I had gone stargazing with Mason.
Being a nature lover, the night sky was one of my many fantasies, and I could stare at it for hours.
Mason had taken me up a mountain, where we camped and watched the night sky. He wasn’t a fan of stars, but he had gone there for me.
“How did you know of this spot?” I asked. A waiter had just arrived. ted ngs as it was cleared away.
I don’t
“There’s only so much how in this city, and about you.” He said, he is wearing a crisp white button–down tucked neatly into
ck trousers with a bow on his neck.
“I know how much you love nature and thought this would be the perfect spot for our date night.” he held my gaze and sent a small smile.
Date night. The words sank in. He had told me he wanted us to have dinner together. I knew that it wasn’t just dinner for him. But hearing him say it out loud this way just felt weird.
Pushing the thoughts to the back of my mind, I swallowed, reaching for a ss of water on the table.
“I see you’ve been finding your way around the city.” I started cing the ss on the table.
The waiters returned with dessert.
“Yes. I had to.” There was something in his voice, it carried warmth with a hint of sharpness over the edge of his voice.
After the incident at the dinner party, when Mason had taken a detour and Marcus couldn’t meet up, I knew it hurt his pride, which is why he had to learn about all the hooks and crannies in the city.
“I am not surprised,” I said. The topic soon switched to business, and then to other things.
We walked side by side to the car afterwards. Marcus had picked me up from home and would drop me off
He opened the door, and I stepped in. We drove into the night, my windscreen was down, and air rushed into the car, cold against
my skin.
While he was driving, I scrolled through the inte
My hands stopped over a picture. “You posted a picture of us?” I asked. When did Marcus open an Instagram art?
“When did you open an Instagram ount?” I was baffled as I clocked on his profile.
“Well, three days ago.”
“And you already have over three hundred thousand followers?” He was following only one person. His OP was a picture of a cat.
“I guess my face card is still lethal,” he smirked. “Not to kiss my own ass Lydia, but I am famous, even more than most o
I wanted to switch industries, it wouldn’t be too difficult”
“Tsk tsk tsk, your narcissistic side is finally surfacing.”
He took a turn, “You finally figured.” He grinned. We bantered for a while.
He was following me. And he had just posted a picture of us together in the restaurant. Of course, izens were already specting, guessing what our rtionship would be about
“I didn’t notice you took a picture of me.”
“You don’t notice most things.” He said. He pulled up in front of the building.
The smile on his face was gone.
“What do you mean, now he’s calling me dense?” I tried to joke to lighten the situation, but his grim look remained on his face.
“I’m not. I will never call you that.” His voice is soft, mixed with a bit of desperation.
I tried tough, but I wasn’t serious. But his expression remained tight. I don’t remember ever seeing Marcus like this.
I looked down at my purse, ready to leave.
“How long is all this going to take?”
Iarched my brow, “huh?” He adjusted, removing his seatbelt.
“Your revenge on Mason.”
Oh. I had no idea. I was ready to take it on for as long as it wouldst. “Why the sudden question?” I unsped my seatbelt.
I
“I want to know when we’ll go home.”
By home, I knew where he meant.
Canada.
The same ce I had stayed for five years. But I couldn’t call that ce home.
I have stopped associating home with ces. Home is anywhere my twins and mom were.
“I don’t n on returning,” Wait, hope he wasn’t doing what I was thinking. “You aren’t waiting for this to be over, are you?” His pointed look told me I was right.
A sharp light cut through the night, and it pointed directly at us. I squinted briefly, wondering who the person was
“If I say I am, will that change your mind?” It won’t. I didn’t get the chance to reply. His phone rang at the call and spoke in Italian.
It was his father. His mother was sick. He might have to go back home.
Marcus left in a hurry. I stood at the spot where the car once stood, watching until the car got out of sight.
ment, and he took the
Chapter 87.
I turned and, loudly, with one hand, ced it over my chest.
It took a few moments before I could control my breath.
“Why are you standing here? You scared shit out of me.” Iined.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.” I stood straight, straightening the front of my dress
“What do you want? We saw each other at the book shop earlier today, I am sure we had nothing to talk about.” Why was he following me?
“Are you back to stalking me?” My voice was sharp at first before I remembered that at this point, I wasn’t supposed to act with so much hatred.
Mason just stood like a teenage boy getting scolded.
“I’m not stalking you.” He drew in air. After a few beats, he continued, “You weren’t replying, and I needed to speak to you.”
I didn’t notice that he had left a message. Even if I didn’t reply, he could have just waited for a while. What if he sees one of the
twins?
They
don’te out at night, but you never can tell
I looked around cautiously, but he didn’t notice this.
“Anywhere but here. My apartment is off limits to you and anyone. If I didn’t reply, you should have known I wasn’t in the position to reply.” I said.
“I’m sorry.”
“What did you want to talk about?” I asked, I was tired of how many apologies he had said over the past few minutes.
He scratched the back of his head, “About what you said earlier.” Iscoffed.
I I “Do you have something you want to do about it?” I questioned. Whatever I said, which I obviously didn’t mean, was true.
I know Mason, that would make him restless. It was all part of the n to make him want me back, and it was already taking effect.
“I’ve had a long day and would love to head in now. Good night, Mason.” I walked past him. I was about to open the door to the building when he pulled me back.
Oh gosh, what now?
“What’s going on with you and Marcus?”
I pulled my hand from his. “It’s none of your business.”
“Are you dating him?” He questioned.
One side of my lips pulled upwards into a smirk, “Like I said, Mason, it’s none of your business.”
But maybe he doesn’t understand the meaning of the sentence, because that didn’t deter him from questioning further:
“Do you
kiss him and fuck him too?
BUTZ AUD
“Why? Are you jealous?”
“I mean, you can’t possibly be two–timing,” his voice croaked.
“Says the man who is engaged. You are in no position to say that to me.” I paused and massaged my temples.
“I am tired and need to rest. Good night Mason.” I said and walked in leaving a confused mason behind.
The twins were asleep and so was my mom. I walked into my room and took a shower after which I slid into my nightwear. Now seated on my bed, I rested my back against a pillow. I opened my message app.
Mason had sent over twenty messages
He’s falling deeper than I thought?
I sent Marcus a message asking about the situation. I was about to close the message app when Mia’s messages came in.
Immediately, my eyes scanned her message, I sat straight and slowly, and I smiled.
I should have known.
Julia’s pregnancy was fake. Mia had overheard Julia speak about it over the phone in the restroom.
It was all a n with Victoria to make Mason get married to her.
This is very vital information. I wonder how useful it would be.
