Worst Fear 84

    Chapter 84

    Mason

I had a good time with Lydia. It’s been a day since we had sex, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it or smiling.

We ended up not talking about the questions I had.

I could not stop thinking about the way she felt. I was disappointed that the news of my engagement didn’t affect her at first. But quickly brush it aside.

She has promised to give me a good gift. Although I pretended not to care, within, I was curious as to what it might be

Unconsciously, my fingers found my lips. I trailed my bottom lip, muffling a smile.

Feeling a nudge in my side, I whip my head around. Daniel was standing by my side.

Gosh, I had forgotten about the meeting

I adjusted my chair, clearing my throat.

*Sir, what do you think about it?” I looked at the man standing at the head of the table. He was part of the sales team.

I had not been paying attention, so I didn’t know what his question was about. “He is yet to go through the file. You can talk aboutst month’s report.” As usual, Daniel came to my rescue.

The meeting ended on a good note, part of the reason could be attributed to the fact that I was in a good mood. I noticed some directors talking among themselves, no doubt wondering what kept me in a good mood.

I walked into my office with Daniel trailing behind me. He has his eyes pinned on the iPad in front of him.

“What are you doing?” I questioned.

“Tracking down your mood, it seems to flip easily since the past few days.” He answered. I removed my suit and hung it on the side.

I shook my head at him. If you keep going on and on about this, I think I may need a new Assistant.” I pulled my chair and sat.

“Studies show that the best working rtionship is achieved when we know the mood of the other person. I need to be able to track your mood if I want us to keep working on good terms.” He tried to keep a straight face, but the small smile on his lips betrayed him.

Alter talking about business, Daniel told me about Julia, “She has been trying to reach you.” He began.

    Has she?

I picked up my phone and opened my messages to see various messages from her.

“I thought I replied to her messages.” I said under my breath, but Daniel heard and added, “Her calls included.” It must be so bad that she had to reach me through Daniel, which has never happened before.

Thest time she had left crying. I didn’t expect her to reach out to me first.

My mom had asked that I meet with her to settle things or apologise for doubting her loyalty to me.

    Chapter B4

Initially, I had the n to do that. I had hurt her feelings, but I had forgotten. Lydia and i have been exchanging texts cute aris these past few days. Not that I’m trying to ce the me on her,

“I’ll talk to her,” I told Daniel.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door. L entered. She bowed slightly when she saw me and Daniel, Sir, Mide Julia s outside. She wants to see you. Should Het her in?”

    “Yes”

“I think I have to leave now.” Daniel began after L had already walked out, “Your mom asked you to be able to settle things with her. She is already nning the engagement party and wants no disruption.”

    He left after those words.

Julia stepped in a few minutester. She is wearing a pink dress which hugs her body. Her wavy hair is styled beautifully, held perfectly with a few pins at the side.

“Mason.” She called my name in a soft voice before stepping into the room properly. I stood up from my seat and walked to the couch where she was also headed.

    We sat.

“I’m sorry I came unannounced.” She apologised.

I counted my breath, reminding myself not to act rashly, ‘She is with child, not just any child but your child. I reminded myself.

Contrary to what I thought, she wasn’t here to fight; she had the milk smile she always had.

She moved closer to me. “Are you still mad at me?” She picked my hand and wrapped hers in mine.

“Mad?” I asked. She nodded, hitting her lower lip, which was painted in thick red lipstick.

“I am not.” My words came out sharper than I intended.

“Are you sure? I’m really sorry for raising my voice at you the other day. I shouldn’t have done that.” She inhaled sharply, then slowly exhaled. Her eyes searched my eyes before lowering.

A whiff of her perfume hit me. “I know you must have been shocked to hear the news of my pregnancy, and I should have told you first. You probably didn’t mean to doubt me.” He paused, closed her eyes, and opened them.

“Lallowed my hormones to take over me and snapped at you.” When she raised her head to meet my eyes, her eyes were red, as if she was holding herself back from crying.

I felt a prick in my heart. I had been the one to snap at her. I made her cry, but here she was apologizing

I ced a free hand on top of hers. “I am not angry anymore,” I said in a low voice this time. She was carrying my child. I had to treat her well and calmly, even if it was not because of her but for my child.

    “You’ve forgiven me?”

“I never held anything against you,” I said.

She allowed the tears to drop. I wiped it off with my thumb.

She must have already known that I nned to go on with the wedding, but she should have heard that from me,

see the reason with me and be able to convince my mom not

I wanted something small, if I’m able to talk to her now, maybe she’d see to throw the extravagant party she intends to throw

“You already know, but I should tell you, I’m sorry our engagement was announced without any formal engagement between us. I should have asked if you wanted to marry me first. I should have given you a ring and-”

She hugged me, 1 froze for a moment, not expecting it.

    “I want to.” She said.

“I’m so happy it was the best news I’ve heard all year. Thank you. I can’t wait for the entire country, no, the entire world to hear.”

    No, no, no.

I wanted to scream at her, but she sounded so excited. I gently pulled her away from me, saying, “I have already started nning the engagement party and sending out the invite.”

“Invite?” I asked, and she nodded. You just need to be present on that day. I’ll handle the other things,” she said.

“We can have it small. Just us, just the family.”

“I know, but I want to tell the world. Our family will finally be merging, you know how important that is.” She said.

I nodded, of course I know how important that is. Not just for us but for the media. It’s big news. Our marriage is not just the meeting of two families but of two cooperations.

In the end, I couldn’t refuse her.

When I got home that evening, Mom was happy, she hugged me and dered that I had made her the happiest she had been in

    years.

“I made your favourite. You came at the right time. I’ll call you over once I set the table,” she said, and then disappeared into the

    kitchen.

I wish she had reacted the same when I got engaged to Lydia.

Speaking about Lydia. I pulled out my phone to check for any messages from her. I sat on the couch, crossing my legs over the

    other.

She had not sent any message.

My shoulders slumped as I kept refreshing the chat but nothing. I twisted my lips to the side, maybe she is busy.

My finger hovered around the keypad. I wanted to send a message, but I kept thinking of what to type.

“What are you doing?” Zoe asked behind me. I flicked and quickly ced my phone on my chest, covering the screen.

“Why did you just jump on me? You’re creeping.” She moved swiftly to my front and crossed her hand ove at me suspiciously.

    chest, looking dow

“You were doing something you shouldn’t be doing, right?” She raised a brow. I scoffed and then turned off the screen of my phone.

“You’re always making weird assumptions.” She didn’t get the chance to reply as Mom invited us for dinner at that moment

Zoe left first, I got the chance to send a message to Lydia during this time. All through dinner, I kept looking at my phone, wading for her reply, but it never came.

I retired to my room immediately after eating, feeling sore all over. Just as I climbed into bed, my phone dinged.

    A reply from Lydia.
