Worst Fear 51

    Lydia

The only thing running in my head as Marcus ushered me into the hall was one sentence.

Get Mason and do what you want.

I saw the look in his eyes when he stared at me, and I bashed in it. Maybe this night will go better than I had nned.

We didn’t go to our seats immediately. I wanted to use the bathroom, Marcus refused to let me out of his side, so he ended up walking with me to the bathroom.

    He stood outside.

I closed the door behind me. The bathroom was empty. I walked to the front of the mirror, cing my purse on the tip of the sink.

I stared at my reflection, willing myself not to think about Mason’s tightened crouch I noticed.

I pulled my dress down, exposing a little of my cleavages

My phone beeped. “Ma’am, I did as you said. You and Mason will sit at the same table.” A message from Mia popped up on my screen. I smirked.

I typed back, “Thank you.” Almost immediately, another message popped in: “The meal you requested as first course is avable and here…”

Another beeped, “This is the speech; I hope it’s not toote to memorize; I found out you’d be delivering a speechte.”

Her message was followed by a lengthy paragraph.

Memorizing it was difficult, and I was done quickly.

I stared at my reflection a bit, then walked to one of the cubicles and flushed.

I stepped out, washed my hands, and smiled.

This was one step closer to my n. If I wanted Mason to chase me, I had to give him something to chase after.

I touched on my makeup a bit before stepping out of the room

Marcus had his back on the wall, leaning casually on it

His dark hair fell on his face. He exuded charm and confidence. Maybe if I wasn’t going for Mason, just maybe, I would have al rtionship with him.

“That was quick.” He said with a smile, pushing himself off the wall.

    Tinhaled slowly.

“Let’s go.” He ced one hand on my shoulder; his warm hand sent warmth down my back.

For a moment, I imagined it was Mason.

    Chapter 51

The hall was clustered with people when we got there. We found our seats quickly. Mason was already seated. Ha back straight, and the sult perfectly outlined his toned shoulders.

I tried to ignore him. But I knew he had his eyes on me all through.

His gaze didn’t make me ufortable. I made sure I stirred up as much anger as I could within him. I am close, but at the same time, he can’t have me..

I know seeing me with another man was torture to him.

I was married to him for years, so of course, I knew how he would feel to see me with Marcus.

I know he isn’t entirely over me.

Marcus leaned closer to me, “Are youfortable here?” I raised a brow, and he looked past me, then moved his head in a gesture towards Mason.

“He is right here with us. If you are ufortable, we can go sit somewhere else.” He said.

I shook my head, “I have you here; why would I be ufortable? Mason has no effect on me.” My voice sounded certain, and it was the truth.

I thought it was sweet of Marcus to worry about me. But he was wrong. Mason is the one he should be worried about.

The party started, and I was invited to the stage for a speech.

It went well. I had rehearsed the speech beforehand, and I said what needed to be said. When I came down, Marcus pulled me into a hug

I noticed Mason tightened his hand around the stem of his ss, and I clutched onto Marcus even more tightly.

The party started properly. I brushed my hair, fully aware that each move I made was taken in my Mason.

I know it was only a matter of time before he tried to reach out to me.

    I was right.

Immediately, Marcus’s attention was turned away from me, he called me.

I don’t say anything to him when he calls my name, pretending not to hear.

I turned to him at the second call.

When he said I looked beautiful, I stiffened briefly, I knew he thought I was beautiful, but I didn’t expect him to say it outrightly.

Maybe things would go faster than I imagined.

The first part of my n was to get under his skin, and it was sessful.

I set the next n rolling into action.

The food was served. I smiled as I stared at it. From the corner of my eyes, I could feel his gaze on the side of my

I leaned in, cing one hand on my hair to stop it from pushing forward. I took a deep whiff of the bava bites and smiled at

    Marcus

“I didn’t know you liked Greek food,” He said.

It’s not just from Greece. But I didn’t say this out loud.

There are other food on the table.

“How would you know? I keep telling you, you know nothing about me.”

“Do I now?” He asked, one side of his lips pulled up. He had a piece of chocte cake before him.

This was the appetizer, to my knowledge; they were serving a three–course meal.

“I can tell you for free that you didn’t like this. It’s not in your file.” My eyes widened briefly.

“You made your search on me?”

“Of course. I have to know all about the woman i want. I’m sure you would do the same if you were in my shoes.” He said.

He was right, “Mr Marcus, you never fail to surprise me.”

“I know how you love surprises,” I smiled and picked up my fork. He took a bit from his chocte cake, and his eyes brightened.

“This tastes divine; why did you frown? Do you want a taste? You think I’m lying?”

He asked, but I shook my head, my lips shaking as I tried to send him a smile without bringing attention to the struggle I was trying to pull off beneath the table.

Mason had my hand entwined in his. His big hands covered mine.
