He tightened his arms around me, making my stomach swoop. “Don’t apologize. I was perfectly content watching you sleep. Anyways it’s my fault that you’re so tired.” A slow smirk spread across his face. “I was the one who kept you up half the night yesterday.”
Hisment made my whole body flush, and I opened the car door so I wouldn’t have to make eye contact with him. My legs trembled when I stood, and Alexander put his warm arm around my waist and helped me walk to the apartment building.
The night air was sharp and cold, making me shiver slightly. Alexander noticed and draped his jacket around my shoulders, engulfing me in his delicious scent.
“Thank you,” I muttered, blushing even more.
My eyelids drooped as we walked into the building, and I couldn’t wait to slide into my warm bed. But I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw who was near the elevators.
Ethan.
My ex–husband was standing with a pretty woman in a short pink dress. It seemed like they were waiting for our arrival.
“Wow, your fiancé has only been in jail for two days, and you already found her recement?” Alexander asked sarcastically and red at Ethan.
Ethan narrowed his eyes, but he didn’t take the bait. His gaze moved from Alexander to me, his eyes shing with anger when he saw the ck jacket draped around my shoulder

Then, the girl in the pink dress gasped. Everyone looked at her, and my stomach heated with jealousy when I noticed that she was gazing at Alexander with excitement.
Alexander steered me in the other direction, toward the stairs, but then the girl shot forward and grabbed his arm.
“Brother!” she said.
“I’m sorry, Miss. I have no idea who you are,” Alexander said and gently took her hand off of him. “And I don’t like thepany that you keep.” His gaze shed to Ethan.
“You’re my handsome brother!” she said.
I looked closer at the girl. Her pale blue eyes were clear and empty. Sympathy washed through me mixed with guilt for the jealousy that I had felt a moment ago.
This poor girl was intellectually disabled. I red at Ethan. Was my ex–husband taking advantage of her?
*Olivia*
I red at my ex–husband. “You need to take her home right now,” I said through gritted teeth. “She shouldn’t be out thiste.”
The girl looked at me curiously, and I tried to keep my voice low even though anger was flooding through me. I wasn’t sure how much she would understand, but thest thing I wanted to do was offend her or upset her. It was probably way past the time she usually went to sleep, and my stupid ex–husband was using her in his futile attempts to make me jealous.
Ethan walked toward me, and a pleased smile spread across his face His grin made my stomach turn.

“Why? Are you jealous of seeing me with another woman, Olivia?” he asked hopefully.
I drew myself up to my full height and narrowed my eyes. “Are you serious? Of course not,” I snapped, then looked over at his date, who was still pulling on Alexander’s arm, calling him her brother. “But you need to take her home safely. You shouldn’t have her out thiste. You’re taking advantage of her. I had no idea that you could stoop so low.”
My brows knitted together as I stared at the beautiful young woman. She was the perfect kind of girl for Ethan to use for his nefarious purposes. Her blonde hair was long and wavy, her makeup was applied perfectly, and her pink dress was short and ttering to her curvy figure. But from the childish way she spoke and the sporadic way that her body moved, I could tell that she had the mind of a young child.
My hands started to shake with anger as I stared at my ex–husband. How could he take advantage of someone so defenseless? I shouldn’t be surprised that he was capable of something as cruel as this, but I still couldn’t believe it.
