Of course, without Gai, I had to handle a two person workload by myself. Afterst night and the drama of today, I was mentally and physically exhausted. But I pushed through it. During Alexander’s afternoon nap, I let him sleep more than usual so I could finish my work in peace.
Around three in the afternoon, I got him his daily cup of green tea. But I noticed that he was in the meeting room with a few people. From their serious expressions, it seemed like they were having an important meeting. I didn’t want to interrupt, so I put his tea on his desk and got back to work.
When I was wrapping things up at the end of the day, Ava called me.
“Hi,” I said, my voice sounding tired even to my own ears.
“Hey! I was wondering if you wanted to have dinner together?” she asked.
I was about to say no because all I wanted to do was sleep. But my stomach was growling from skipping lunch and it would be really nice to see my best friend.
“Yeah, that would be fun,” I said.
“I’ll text you the details!”
Relief flooded through me as I walked onto the elevator to go home. But my body immediately tensed when I saw that I was sharing the small space with Alexander and Gai.
At least Gai seemed like she was feeling better. She did look more

exhausted than me, though.
“Do you have any ns tonight?” Alexander asked casually.
“Yes,” I answered, trying to have the same rxed tone as him. “I’m going to Ava’s for dinner.”
Alexander and Gai shared a look that I didn’t understand. What was wrong with me going to my friend’s house for dinner?
*Olivia*
“Are you spending the night?” Alexander asked, his voice clipped and his hand gripping his briefcase tightly.
“Um, I don’t know, maybe,” I said, narrowing my eyes at him.
Why was he acting like this? Didn’t I make it clear I didn’t want Gai to know about us yet? This wasn’t appropriate for a boss to ask his subordinate. He sounded like a boyfriend. To make matters worse, a controlling boyfriend.
“Well, isn’t her brother, Aiden, still staying at her house?” Alexander said through gritted teeth. “I don’t think it would be very appropriate for you to spend the night in the same apartment as him.”
His eyes sparked with anger, and my reply was lost in my mind. Was he acting like this because he was jealous?
“Oh, I didn’t know that,” I said. “Honestly, I thought Aiden already went back to college. Well, that changes things because I think Ava only has one guest room. So, I won’t spend the night at her house then.”
Alexander nodded. le tried to y it cool, but I noticed the tension leaking from his body like a balloon someone let the air out of. Even

though I was slightly annoyed that he was trying to control me, a part of me did like how jealous he seemed. As long as it didn’t get out of hand, I always thought that a little bit of jealousy was good for a rtionship.

first.
My breath caught in my throat, but before I could even react, he took his arm off of me.
“Goodbye, dies,” he said, winking at me, then walking in the opposite direction of us toward his car.
My heart warmed when I realized that he had managed to hug me goodbye without doing it in front of Gai. Even though he had technically broken my rule about not touching at work, I couldn’t even be mad at him. That moment had been so sweet that I was still staring affer him long after he turned the corner of the parking garage.

Her voice made me jump. “What? Oh, um, yeah.”
