Chapter 716: TWISTED DECISION

I watched cautiously from the sea at the couple arriving.
They seemed to genuinely care for her but I couldn’t trust them.
My fins began to stand upright ready for an attack in case they tried anything.
My breathing went sharp and I was already seething.
But the woman simply bent down over Scarlett and seemed to check if she was breathing.
She looked back up at the man.
"She is alive." The woman replied softly.
The man breathed a sigh of relief.
"Who could leave such a beautiful child out here?" The woman asked looking around in confusion.
The man went on his knees and gently caressed her head in a paternal loving manner.
I finally assessed them properly.
Wondering what to do in that tensed moment.
The girl didn’t even recognize who she was anymore.
I wondered if this was the right thing for her.
To find people who would take her in and take care of her.
I didn’t trust her going back to the royal family.
Only the gods knew what would happen to her there.
I sighed and looked up into the sky.
Everything happened for a reason.
As a siren.
I hade to understand that.
I sensed their vibration with my might.
With the little power I had despite not being a fully developed siren.
Few sirens had the ability to break through barriers and boundaries and view people’s thoughts.
I was one of the few blessed with such gifts.
It was my specialty.
I closed my eyes and persisted into their thoughts until I broke their barrier.
Then and there I saw them for who they truly were.
The couple were gypsy wolves who frequently moved around on the road.
I had heard of such wolves.
Moved in groups too with other Gypsy wolves.
And yet these ones were on their own.
They were loving, kind and gentle.
But I could see something was missing.
They didn’t have a child.
Just the two of them.
Had longed for one for a very long time.
I closed my eyes away from their thoughts and made a drastic decision.
"Lorie." I said as I swam up from where I hid.
The woman turned around and a soft gasped escaped her lips as I progressed.
"Adam." I said as I turned to her husband with a nod.
They blinked at me.
"How do you know our names?" Adam asked.
"I can see through your thoughts." I said. "I know all that I need to about you."
They looked puzzled and I saw them gather their arms protectively over the princess.
Even though they didn’t know her, the sharp instinct to shield her from harm.
"I’m not going to harm you." I stated clearly. "Or the girl. I saved her life."
They looked at each other, their eyes rose with surprise.
I was about to speak when I heard a loud horn from a sea horn.
I knew that call.
All sirens were being called back home.
Including me.
I felt a sickening pain in my tummy.
I turned back from the sea to the couple.
"I don’t have a choice." I said quickly. "But I know you want a child. Take her. Far away from this ce. Never let here to this ce ever."
I turned towards the sea as I began to return.
"Who is she?" Lorie’s voice pleaded. "Her family would want to know if she is safe and-
"Her family wants her dead." I red back my eyes spitting fire. "And she will die if you bring her here. You are gypsies. Take her to a ce where she won’t be recognized. You must suspect where shees from already."
I felt the air go tensed.
I took out one of the pearls from my waist and tossed it to Adam who caught it in his palms.
"Wear it around her hand. It will keep her protected." I lied.
The pearl wasn’t to protect her, it was to keep me aware where she was.
A part of me, attached to her.
"Never let her take off her ne either." I warned. "It’s important. When it’s safe I’ll find you myself."
And with that I felt the pull of the call of sea drag me in.
I jumped into the sea and swam to deep to my home.
Above, the old couple took her away from the bank.
I prayed to the goddess I had made the right decision.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The moment I went down to the bottom of the ocean, I noticed that the fish were swimming off in a hurry.
Even the turtles were off in a zoom.
No one wanted to hang around.
I swam up ahead to Thalorinth.
It was the capital of the ocean.
The ce where the King and other family members along with his subordinates lived.
I hurried dodged where I knew the guards would be as I swam past corals and homes.
I finally found the route to the Crown’s spire.
The King’s pce.
I pushed back the mumbling of hundreds of sirens and then I felt someone grabbing arm.
"Where have you been?" My mother’s voice sneered.
I swallowed apologetically.
She looked worried and disappointed all together.
"I went off to swim and-
"Just shhh." She warned, her face stern. "It isn’t safe. Come here quickly."
She took my hand and let me past the group of people.
Soon she shut the door of my bedroom and looked back at me.
"Don’t ever disappear like that again." She warned me usingly.
I looked down at my tail in guilt.
She sighed and gave a tight hug.
"I was worried something had happened to you. Was so scared."
"What’s going on?"
She sighed heavily. "The Queen of wolves. One of her children. The heir to the throne is missing. They said they were fishing and somehow she fell off. The Queen thinks a siren or waterbody dragged in her in."
My eyes went wide.
"And now she has dered war against your grandfather." She said.
My stomach turned ufortably.
What had I done?
