The heavy m of the car door sent a jolt through my chest.

I nced out the window as the ck Bentley faded away down the road.

‘Edward was angry. He loved me but couldn’t have me. Who could me him?‘ I thought to myself.

I pulled out my phone and called Aiden, telling him I’de see him now.

Aiden said he’d agreed to go on a business trip to Gordezin and was heading to the airport. He told me this whole thing didn’t really get to him, and he’d just throw himself into work even more.

I knew Aiden might act a little childish sometimes, but deep down, he always knew what was right and what was wrong.

After hanging up, I went home, packed a few things, and headed straight to the airport.

I bought my ticket and had some time to kill before my flight, so I found a café, sat in a corner, and scrolled through my phone.

When it came to the Lynn Family, even if Isabelle ended up behind bars, not even a whisper would make it to the public. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t dig up a single piece of news.

Isabelle might not be totally disgraced, but in her own little circle, her reputation was definitely stained. That was a big blow for her.

I was sipping my coffee, ncing at the clock–still more than an hour left. ‘Why does time crawl so slowly when you’re waiting?‘ I thought to myself, feeling every minute stretch on forever.

By the time I got back to Hachester, it was already prettyte. Figuring it’d be safer, I asked Jared to send someone to pick me up.

He just shot back a quick “Sure.” As I walked out with the crowd, I headed for the exit.

And there, standing tall in the middle of it all, was Jared.

He was holding a bouquet of flowers.

Surprised, I strode over to him. Jared was wearing gold–rimmed sses tonight, which gave him an even more sophisticated, gentlemanly vibe.

Instead of responding to his earlier message, I just asked softly, “Why did youe yourself? Didn’t you bring

    Yvonne?”

Jared just chuckled and firmly ced the bouquet in my arms. “It’ste, Yvonne’s already asleep, so I didn’t

    bother her.”

I let out a soft “oh,” cradling the bouquet he handed me, and followed him toward a silver Bentley.

Jared asked in a low voice, “Did you get everything sorted out in Braylin?”

“Yeah, it’s all sorted,” I said.

Jared shot me a long look, then opened the passenger door. “Hop in.”

“Maybe I should just sit in the back,” I said. Front seat’s for thedy, isn’t it?

“Are you really trying to annoy me?” Jared asked in a low, almost hurt voice.

I had no choice but to bend down and get in, clutching the bouquet to my chest. The scent was almost intoxicating.

Jared got behind the wheel and slid into the driver’s seat.

The car headed into the city.

It was quiet in the car, so Jared turned on some music, and we both got lost in it.

As we got closer to the city, Jared asked, half–joking, “Want to go check out the old vi?”

    I paused, looking at him.

“You spent over fifty years there in your previous life. You must be pretty attached to it,” Jared said with a knowing smile, ncing at me.

“Not at all,” I replied tly.

Jared’s smile froze at the corners of his eyes, and he looked a bit awkward. “Guess I’ll just take you back to your apartment then.”

When we got to the apartment building, Jared pulled up out front and kept his hands on the steering wheel.

As I reached for the door to get out, Jared suddenly asked, “Did something happen while you were in Braylin?”

I was startled, then quickly shook my head. “No, it’s nothing. What’s up?”

Jared shook his head. “It’s nothing, I just feel like you haven’t seemed yourself since you got back from Braylin.”

I smiled. “Thanks for caring, but I’m really fine.”

I grabbed my bag and said, “It’ste, you should head back and get some rest. Drive safe.”

With that, I walked into the apartmentplex without looking back.

Before I knew it, the Lantern Festival had arrived. The moon was full, and since it was the weekend, I figured I’d buy some ingredients and make some sweet rice balls at home.

I remembered back when I was a housewife, I always made tangyuan from scratch myself.

Yvonne showed up early, so I took her along to the supermarket to grab everything we needed.

Sally called early too, inviting me over for lunch, but I turned her down.

‘Is Sally seriously hoping I’ll get back together with Jared? Back when we first split, she was always throwing shade at me, buttely, she’s been way more chill,‘ I thought.

Getting back together was out of the question, even with a kid in the picture.

After we finished shopping, I called Melissa Jenkins and asked if she wanted toe over for lunch.

She agreed right away and showed up at noon with lots of fruit.

I was busy in the kitchen making lunch while Melissa kept Yvonnepany with a game of chess in the living

    room.
