Loose 495

Jared seemed taken aback by my question, his handsome face freezing for a moment.

I fixed my razor–sharp gaze on his eyes. “Who are you, really?”

“I’m your ex–husband, Jared,” he replied, pushing up his gold–rimmed sses and shing me a faint smile.

    OX 7840

That was when I realized something was different about him today—he was wearing sses. He’d always been elegant and good- looking, but with those sses, he looked even more cool and unattainable.

I knew he’d nevere clean, but this time, I had hard evidence.

I snatched the sheet of rice paper off the table and shoved it in his face. “You wrote this, didn’t you?”

Jared looked stunned for a second, then nodded. “Yeah, that’s mine.”

“Since when did you start practicing calligraphy?” I sneered, not bothering to call out his lie just yet.

Jared’s eyes widened in disbelief, staring at me like I’d just dropped a bombshell.

I spoke slowly, “We’ve only been divorced a few months. Yourpany’s at a make–or–break moment, and you’ve been working yourself ragged. You’re barely ever home, and when you are, you’re dead tired. So tell me, when did you ever have time to practice calligraphy?”

Jared hesitated, lips parted, but couldn’t find anything to say.

“Alright, maybe you did squeeze in some practice with Tracy at the office. But I remember you have this little quirk…” I unfolded the rice paper again, pointing to a certain tail stroke. “You always flick this stroke up, about two centimeters higher than everyone

    else.”

“Victoria…” Jared’s voice trembled, his eyes reddening in an instant. He lunged forward, gripping my arms tightly. “Are you… the you from your previous life?”

I stayed silent, just giving him a cold, mocking smile.

“Is it really you?” Jared’s voice cracked, a mix of shock and joy flooding his face as tears welled up in his eyes.

“You came back too?” I blurted out, still stunned thating back from a previous life was even possible–science just couldn’t

    exin it.

Every ache and pain in this body told me it was real.

When science runs out, all that’s left is the mystical.

Jared’s grip on me loosened, and he took a/half–step back, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “I got into a car ident.”

    I froze, stunned. “What happened?”

“I don’t know,” he said, shaking his head.

“When did youe back?” I blurted out, still in shock. “You came back too? How is this even possible?”

Jared shook his head, looking just as lost. “I have no idea. I only came back not long ago–by then, you’d already divorced me.”

I stared at him in shock–both of us hade back from our previous lives? My whole world just crashed down. It was like the sky was falling.

“Why don’t you just go back to where you came from? I don’t want to share this world with you,” I snapped. Fine, you came back? Then get ready for my wrath.

    Jared:

    ” ”

“Get lost! Go back to where you belong!” I yelled, all the pain and resentment from my previous life exploding out of me.

Jared’s voice was thick with bitterness. “If I hadn’te back, I’d be gone for good.”

“Whether you’re dead or alive, I don’t care anymore. I’ve already forgiven you in this life. I’m done with revenge, done getting caught up with you. Jared, I don’t ever want to see the man you were in our previous life again.” I buried my face in my hands, sobbing so hard I could barely breathe. The flood of old pain and resentment was just too much–I couldn’t even look at him.

Jared was rooted to the spot, as if he’d turned to wood.

I wiped the tears off my face, wondering, ‘Why am I even crying?‘ I’m not that bitter woman anymore.

I red at him, my voice cold as ice. “Since you’re back, why don’t you go and love Tracy properly for once? Don’t let her feel left out.”

Jared looked stung, shaking his head. “I never really liked her that much. In our previous life, she only seemed special because you were there forparison.”
