    “You know about that?” I was genuinely surprised. ‘How could Nathan let his sister in on a secret like that?‘


    “I asked him about it, because he used to secretly sketch the back of a woman,” Lily said, sipping her coffee. “He even told me he might never get to meet you in this life, but now, he finally has.”


    I had to admit, Nathan was really persistent. Who else would secretly be in love with just the back of someone for years?


    After Lily set down her cup, she suddenly asked, “Victoria, could I ask you for something?”


    My hand tensed slightly around my ss as I looked up at her.


    Lily looked like she wanted to say something, but couldn’t quite get the words out.

    “Just tell me. If I can help, I will,” I said. ‘For Nathan’s sake, as long as it’s not too much <i>to </i>ask, I’ll do what I can,‘ I thought to myself.


    Lily frowned, like she was having a hard time getting the words out.


    “Is something bothering you?” I asked with a smile.


    Lily finally took a deep breath, looked me straight in the eye, and said seriously, “I want to ask you to leave my brother. Would you do that?”


    I was stunned. So that’s what this is about? My smile froze on my face.


    Lily caught the change in my face and kept going, “I know it’s a lot to ask, but my brother promised a woman years ago that he’d marry her. Now that you’re here, you’vee between them.”


    Her words hit me like a stone tossed into still water–I was left reeling.


    “Your brother has a fiancée?” I asked, keeping my voice steady.


    “Not exactly a fiancée, but if <i>you </i>hadn’t shown up, they probably would’ve gotten married in a year or two,” Lily said.


    When I didn’t say anything, she continued, “My brother was willing to marry her before, but now… he’s found you, and you two are together. It’s breaking another woman’s heart.”


    I frowned, realizing maybe I’d been way too naive. A guy like Nathan–good–looking, talented–was probably already being groomed by some influential family to be their future son–inw.


    So who was I kidding, thinking I could just swoop in and get lucky with someone like him?


    But now, I’d still ended up messing up the peace between him and another woman, turning into the kind of girl I always despised.


    “Sorry, I honestly had no idea about any of this. Can you tell me exactly what’s going on?” I didn’t want to be like Tracy, and 1 definitely didn’t want to hurt another woman. If I really did, I’d walk away without a second thought.


    “Honestly, I don’t even know how to start exining this to you. All I know is, as long as you’re around, my brother will never marry her,” Lily said, her frustration clear on her face.


    “Just take your time. I’m not in a rush,” I replied, determined to get to the bottom of this. ‘I need to know exactly what’s going on here, I thought to myself.
