Reservation 96

When Hunter started to get up and head toward Warren office, Liz quickly grabbed his arm. “Keep your voice down. This has nothing to do with Mruinn. Going to him won’t help,”

“But you haven’t done anything wrong. Why should you have to quit?”

    “Sit down first.”

Hunter hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly obeyed

“Don’t go looking for Mr. Quinn. He’s in a tough spot too. I’m leaving because my personal issues have started to affect my work. It has nothing to do with him

“If you leave, there won’t be anywyer here to mentore. Just wait a bit. There has to be another way.”

If all else failed, he could always swallow his pride and ask his parents for help.

“The otherwyers here are just as capable. And Mr. Quan knows plenty of attorneys. He’ll find someone to take you on soon.”

“I don’t want someone else. I want you to mentor me.”

Seeing his stubborn, almost pouty expression, Liz couldn’t help smiling. “Come on. This is just temporary. I’m not leaving the profession for good. We’ll see each other again, maybe even sooner than you think.”

“You’re just treating me like a kid to make me feel bette‘

“All right, I need to pack my things now. Think about whichwyer you’d like to work with, and talk to Mr. Quinn about itter.”

Hunter gave a reluctant nod. “Fine. I should’ve never dyed my hair back to ck.”

Liz shook her head, smiling to herself. “Withments like that, he really is just a kid,” she thought.

She said nothing more and began packing her belongings.

When Naomi returned from her meeting and saw Liz’s desk nearly empty, her expression changed. She immediately asked what was going on.

After Liz exined, Naomi’s face darkened. “Zac Lincoln must be out of his mind. You’ve already broken up, and he’s still hanging on like a rabid dog. He’s pathetic.”

“Naomi, once I’m gone, please keep an eye on Hunter for me. He’s smart. He’s going to make an excellentwyer one day.”

Naomi shot her a look. “You can barely protect yourself and you’re still worrying about someone else?”

“I can’t help it. I’m the one who’s been mentoring him.

“Fine, I’ll keep an eye on him. So, what’s your n after you leave the firm?”

“I’ll deal with my personal issues first, then think abou finding another job.”

Liz figured there was no point in talking things over with Zac anymore. Instead, she decided to speak to his mother and have her step in. At this stage, there was no way things could end on good terms.

“Once you get through this hurdle, everything will definitely go smoothly from here on out!”

    “I hope you’re right!”

That afternoon, Liz finished packing and brought her resignation letter to Warren for his signature.

He looked at the document and sighed, hesitating to sign. He truly didn’t want her to go. Professionally, Liz was one of the firm’s topwyers. Personally, he admired her work ethic. Losing her would be a major blow.

“Ms. Smith, I estimate that in the short term, it’ll be very difficult for you to find work at otherw firms in the city. You might want to consider going to graduate school.”

The thought caught her off guard, but she nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Quinn. I’ll think about it seriously.”

He finally signed the letter and handed it back. “Come back and visit when you can.”

    “I will.”
