At sunset, Marcelo’s Maybach rolled to a stop at the end of the mansion’s driveway, but it was not alone. Behind Marcelo’s car was an unfamiliar Bentley.
As soon as the Bentley was parked, its driver got out and opened the door of the backseat to reveal a man of understated elegance.
When not looking directly at someone, he seemed genteel and unassuming, blending into the background. However, once his gaze fell upon someone, it was captivating and intense.
To most, it was a sharpness that pierced the soul, like joyously diving into a beautiful rose bush only to meet sharp thorns head–on.
Yet, when his eyes met Sarah’s, they softened into a warm, tender pool.
“Marvin is here too?” Sarah blurted in surprise.
Renee shook her head, just as confused as Sarah was. “I have no idea…”
This was Marcelo’s territory. No one could enter the estate unless they were invited by Marcelo or Renee. Clearly, it was not Renee who invited Marvin, so that meant…
Sarah narrowed her eyes and immediately retracted the praise she had heaped on Marcelo earlier.

“We had an unfinished business deal,” Marcelo replied calmly.

When Marcelo noticed Renee’s skeptical expression, he decided to throw Marvin under the bus. “He said he wasing to pick someone up.”

She clutched the paper bag to her chest and moved away from him.
After a moment of silent fury, she couldn’t help but blurt out, “What kind of bastard are you?”
Smiling roguishly, Marvin retorted, “What kind do you like?”
In other words, he could be whatever breed of bastard she liked.
Renee eyed the paper bag curiously.
It was too small to fit any dress or coat for that matter, so what kind of clothes could it possibly contain?
From Sarah’s flushed face, Renee surmised that she didn’t want to speak with Marvin again. Being the good friend that she was, she nudged Marcelo’s arm and urged, “Didn’t you say that you and Mr. Hill have unfinished business? Perhaps you should discuss it in the study.”
“It can wait until tomorrow. No need to rush,” Marcelo replied, reluctant to leave Renee’s side. Why would he want to go with Marvin to the study when Renee was out here?

Determined to see their little charade through, Marvin lifted his chin and followed Marcelo to the study.
“What kind of clothes fit in such a small bag?” Renee wondered aloud.
Sarah instinctively clutched the bag’s opening tighter, as if afraid someone would see its contents.
Renee was left speechless by her strange behavior.
