Chapter 128 Howard’s skills

    *

The teacher responded, “That’s not a big deal. Howard, take Renee and Mr. King to the canteen and use your campus card. I’ll reimburse your expenses.”

The sponsor’s rare desire to eat in the canteen showcased his frugality.

Marcelo shot Howard an unfriendly nce.

Although Howard didn’t get the chance for a private meal with Renee, he sessfully thwarted Marcelo’s ns. After hours of gloom, Howard was in a good mood.

TheUniversity’s canteen boasted the best–tasting food with a self–service pickup method and card swiping. It attracted numerous students for dining.

Renee found a quieter and asked Marcelo to wait for her.

“Where are you going?” Marcelo grasped her wrist.

“To get the dishes.“Renee implored, “Let go of me. The students will conclude their sses soon, and I’ll have to queue up to get the dishes.”

Marcelo, unfamiliar with the canteen, didn’t realize that dining there was a time–sensitive endeavor.

“He will get them.” He subtly nodded in Howard’s direction, who stood a few meters away, patiently waiting for

    Renee.

Amused at the thought of Marcelo expecting Howard to serve food for three by himself, Renee refrained frommenting.

She knew Marcelo well enough to understand his audacity.

“You don’t like Howard?“Renee couldn’t discern if it was her imagination. After all, there hadn’t been much interaction between Marcelo and Howard.

Wearing a disdainful expression, Marcelo retorted, “Does he even warrant a discussion about whether I like him? Huh?”

Without dwelling on the subject, Renee remarked, “Hey, release me quickly. I need to get the dishes. What if I’m not fond of the dishes Howard picked?”

Upon hearing this, Marcelo released his hold.

Indeed, how could Howard possibly know Renee’s food preferences?

Renee was very picky. For instance, she loved the ck pepper but disliked the white pepper. Onions were another ingredient she had a distaste for.

Yeah,he could boast about knowing her better than anyone!

“Renee, I’ve heard about you and Marcelo.” Howard mentioned this while getting the meal.

Renee noted, unsurprised. Rumors about her supposed affair with Marcelo were circting, and it seemed natural that Howard had heard about it.

Observing her neutral stance towards Marcelo, Howard ventured, “Wait, do you have feelings for him?”

Perplexed by the sudden question, Renee looked at Howard and inquired, “Why this sudden curiosity?”

“Just curious, you know, idle gossip,” Howard responded with a well–disguised nonchnce. “I just believe

someone as remarkable as you deserve a fulfilling rtionship.”

The love of the students was always pure and passionate.

However, Rence remained emotionally detached. Her terrible rtionship with Andrew came first, followed by a forced marriage to Marcelo.

Throughout her life, she never experienced a romantic rtionship until now.

She knew what she had with Marcelo was romantic and fulfilling

With a smile, Renee turned the question on Howard, saying “What about you? You’re exceptional too. Even my strict supervisor acknowledges your promising future. Are you seeing someone?”

“No, not at all,” Howard replied, avoiding eye contact ufortably, fearing that Renee might uncover something.

As Renee picked the food, she remained oblivious to Howard’s unease. “I suppose you must have a fair share of younger female ssmates vying for your attention.”

“Yeah,” Howard admitted, stealing a nce at Renee. “But have a crush.”

“Really?” Renee’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Have you confessed your feelings? Are you pursuing her?”

Shaking his head, Howard confessed, “No, she’s too exceptional. I’m afraid I won’t be able to win her over.”

Renee was taken aback by Howard’s admission of self–doubt.

Observing that she didn’t seem to like him at all, she didn’t appeared to be bothered that he might have a crush on someone else, Howard refrained from further inquiries. A sense of sadness and loss lingered within him.

His crush was characterized by both the fear of her discovering his feelings and rejecting him, and the fear of her never finding out.

“Renee, allow me to assist you with the dishes,” Howard suggested.

    “No need. Focus on your

    food.”

Renee evaded Howard’s attempt to assist. She then realized that the dishes Howard had chosen were all her favorites.

“Our tastes seem to align,“Renee remarked with a smile.

Howard couldn’t help but smile too. “Really?”

Her confirmation validated the uracy of the information he had gathered about her preferences.

As Renee returned to her seat, she noticed Marcelo’s displeased expression.

cing some of the dishes before him, Renee suggested, “These are the canteen’s specialties. Give them a try.”

Marcelo nced at the so–called specialties.

Howard keenly noticed the disdain reflected in his eyes and remarked, “Mr. King, you typically dine at home and high–end restaurants. I assume the canteen fare doesn’t appeal to you.”

Marcelo pursed his lips, choosing silence. His expression practically said, “Go fuck yourself.”

Howard had to refrain from furtherments as Renee was present. In his role as the student union president, representing both the school and the students, he had to exercise discretion.

Meanwhile, Marcelo, the school sponsor and distinguished guest, warranted another respect. “Renee, I heard you’re not fond of onions. Let me help you pick them out, toward offered, holding another fork. Swiftly, he removed the onions from the m chowder.

As Renee stared at him, gratitude was the only sentiment she could articte.

Meanwhile, an undeniable chill enveloped the atmosphere surrounding Marcelo,

Renee perceived nothing amiss in Howard’s conduct, appreciating his polite use of a new fork. However, Marcelo’s emotions were impossible to overlook; his presence radiated a palpable intensity.

Sensing his displeasure, possibly linked to Howard picking out onions for her, Renee promptly reached for a smoked spare rib for him.

“I’ve always loved these smoked spare ribs since my school days. Give it a try,” she offered with genuine enthusiasm.

Howard observed the scene, surprised by Renee’s actions. She seemed so attentive to Marcelo.

Unaware of how she was indulging Marcelo, Renee continued her well–intentioned gestures.

Marcelo, with an air of condescension, took a bite of the smoked spare rib handed to him by his wife, his expression betraying his distaste.

Could it truly be considered a delicacy?

“Howard, is smoked spare ribs specialty?“Renee, in her caring manner, shifted the focus to acknowledge Howard’s presence.

“Yes, indeed.” Howard couldn’t hide his displeasure as the rib he had chosen for Renee ended up with Marcelo. With his gaze fixed upon the m chowder before him, Marcelo delicately nudged the bowl using his slender fingers.

Deliberately, he slid the bowl in front of Howard, saying, “If you enjoy picking out onions so much, why not extend that expertise to this dish as well?”

“Mr. King, you don’t fancy onions either?” Howard forced a smile, detecting Marcelo’s deliberate attempt to make things challenging for him.

“I like onions,” Marcelo replied nonchntly. “Butd thought I’d give you an opportunity to showcase your skills.”
