Alpha Millionaire 107

    107 His date

    “Stay here and call her.”

Cautiously, Luke dialed Renee’s number once more.

He switched the phone to speaker mode, and her voice filled the room.

“Hello, Luke. Is there something else?”

“Mrs. King, Mr. King’s event tonight is quite formal. He requires apanion for the sake of courtesy. When will you be free from work? Is there a way to rearrange your schedule?”

Renee paused briefly before responding, “If he needs someone to apany him, perhaps you can find someone else suitable?”

For such events, there wasn’t a strict requirement for who the date should be. It could be a celebrity, a friend, or even a secretary. Typically, men with girlfriends or wives choose to attend with their partners.

Luke nced anxiously at Marcelo, hardly daring to breathe.

    He felt out of ce.

He wondered why he was caught in the middle of their issues.

This call should have been made by Marcelo himself.

Noticing Marcelo’s cold expression and his reluctance to speak further, Luke wrapped up the call with Renee.

“Mr. King, will you still be taking a date to the event?”

Renee ended her phone call and turned to the taxi driver. “Could you please drive a bit faster?” she asked.

She refused to attend the party with Marcelo, not just due to her own feelings, but because Sarah had called her urgently.

Sarah had exined there was an emergency that required Renee’s immediate attention.

Arriving at the Venus Bar,Renee hurried through the VIP entrance straight to a private room.

The moment she opened the door, a strong scent of blood hit her.

Sarah stood frozen near the door, her gaze fixed on a man lying on the sofa.

The man’splexion was ashen, a stream of blood running from his short ck hair down to his forehead. He was d in a ck trench coat, the source of the bloody scent.

Drops of blood had fallen from the coat’s edge onto the carpet, leaving red stains.

“Oh my God! What happened here?” Renee eximed in shock, quickly closing the door. “Did you identally hurt him?”

    “I didn’t,” Sarah responded immediately.

Renee let out a sigh of relief, but as she looked at the man’s face, a realization struck her. “Wait, isn’t that Marvin Hill?”

“You recognize him atst,” Sarah said, her face filled with despair. “When I got here today, I heard noises from the exit passageway. Going to check, I found him sitting on the floor, injured. He grabbed me, refusing to let me take him to the hospital. He had a wound on his forehead and makeshift bandages, but they wereing apart.”

“Marvin and Quincy are archenemies. Sarah, did you help him just to upset Quincy?” Renee ventured.

She couldn’t think of another reason Sarah to willingly get involved in such a mess. “Absolutely not,” Sarah replied, rubbing her temples. “Marvin saved me as a child. I owe him my life. But how did he end up injured outside our private room?”

    “I doubt it’s a coincidence.”

Their private room was a well–kept secret, known to very few. It seemed too strange that Marvin, severely injured, would end up there, discovered by Sarah who owed him a life–saving debt. “The Hill family’s internal affairs areplex. Before he passed out, Marvin said he didn’t want to go to the hospital, probably fearing it would be less safe. If we take him there, he might recover, but given his vengeful nature, he could retaliate against us. Yet if we don’t help him and he dies, we could face legal consequences.”

Sarah was clearly torn about what to do.

Though a wave of anxiety washed over Renee, she couldn’t help but tease, “You just mentioned that Marvin saved your life. Now” you’re worried about court if he dies?”

“Well, he’s in aa, so he didn’t hear me, right?” Saral? sighed. Renee, what should we do?”

“Give me a moment to think.”

Renee then pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts She paused at two names:Wyatt and Damian.

Wyatt was a surgeon, but he knew Marvin. It wouldn’t be safe to involve him.

“I’ll call Damian. He studied medicine and did an internship in his family’s hospital. Plus, he’s unaware of who Marvin is,” Renee told Sarah.

Dialing Damian’s number, Renee remembered that he had once cklisted her, but it appeared that he had now removed her from the list, giving her a chance to reach him.

“What do you want?“Damian’s voice was asmanding as ever.

“Damian, can you help me out? And keep it a secret?”

An hourter, Damian was kneeling by the sofa, carefully bandaging Marvin’s wounds.

Marvin’s ck trench coaty cut open. His abdomen and shoulder were wrapped in blood–soaked gauze. Some wounds beneath the gauze needed restitching.

Sarah whispered to Renee, “Since when are you and Damian on good terms?”

“Just recently, we settled our differences.“Renee whispered back.

Damian, focusing on the wound, grumbled, “Renee! I’ve been ying instruments for two years, not stitching wounds. Why do I have to help you take care of his wounds, huh? Damn! I need to know who he is, or else…“As Damian tended to the wounds, he couldn’t help but keepining, a clear sign of his disdain for the task at hand.

Renee sighed. “He was found by the side of the road,” She believed that her statement held some element of truth and wasn’t entirely fabricated.

Hearing this, Damian paused his work and looked up at Renee. “He’s got a gunshot wound on his shoulder. need to inform the police.”

Despite his family’s ims of his low IQ, Damian was far from foolish.

Renee quickly exchanged a nce with Sarah.

“He is my boyfriend. “Sarah lied on the spur of the moment. “Please, Damian, keep this between us.”

Damian’s gaze shifted to Renee, seeking confirmation. Renee nodded in agreement.

“Fine,” conceded Damian. He had no ties to Sarah, so he chose not to meddle in her personal matters.

    r story holds, I

After finishing with the wounds, Damian fetched an anti–inmmatory drip and administered it to Marvin. Two hours had

    S

passed by the time hepleted the treatment.

Concerned that Damian might reveal what he knew, Renee and Sarah expressed their genuine appreciation.

“In return for my silence, what do I get?” Damian asked, turning to Renee.

Renee checked her watch, noting it was nearly one in the morning “How about this,” she proposed. “I’ll treat you to ate- night snack. Order anything you want, it’s on me.”

Meanwhile, Marviny unconscious on the sofa, his condition unchanged, leaving Sarah unable to leave.

Damian, with a hint of reluctance, raised his chin and replied, “Okay.”

Renee suggested they dine at a renowned seafood restaurant nearby, which was bustling even in the middle of the night.

Unlike Marcelo, Damian wasn’t particr about his food.

As Renee thought about how she had missed eating with Marcelo, her phone buzzed with a new message. It was a photo of a man and a woman at a banquet.

The woman, adorned in a champagne gown, stood gracefully next to a wheelchair, wearing a smile. The man in the wheelchair was Marcelo, and the woman was Nora.

‘Renee, men are naturally fickle. Isn’t Marcelo, the man you’re married to, also mingling with a celebrity? I’m in better shape than he is.” The message, unsigned, was clearly from Andrew, judging by the wording.

Damian noticed the change in her expression. “What’s

    , Renee?” he asked.

Renee turned her phone screen down, forcing a smile. “It’s nothing.”

After mingling with several influential guests, Marcelo left the event in his wheelchair, Nora apanying him.

Once they were outside the party, Nora thanked him. “I’m so grateful, Mr. King. Without you, I’d never have had ess to such an event.”

She knew these high–profile events were gateways to valuable connections. Merely being seen with Marcelo would open doors for her.

Marcelo, not even ncing at Nora, told her, “You may leave now.

Nora inquired, “Mr. King, was today’s opportunity a thank you for rifying Miss Hudson’s situation regarding the dancer’s stand–in?”

Marcelo, not responding to Nora’s question, simply wheeled himself away, leaving her behind.

At the party, the guests had assumed Nora was Marcelotestpanion. However, Nora was well aware t her no mind and that her invitation was a result of Renee’s influence, not Marcelo’s personal interest.

Yet, Nora couldn’t help but wonder why Marcelo hadn’t invited Renee to apany him to the party instead.

    Marcelo had paid

Marcelo was seated in the car’s back seat, the scent of someone else’s perfume from the party clinging to him, causing him

    some annoyance.

“Mr. King, Andrew took a photo of you with Nora at the event. I had someone check his phone. Turns out, he sent it to Mrs. King, “Luke informed him.

“And how did she react to it?” Marcelo inquired with his eyes shut

He was aware that Andrew, upon seeing him with another woman, would surely inform Renee.

“Who? Mrs. King?” Luke replied, “She didn’t react at all.”

Marcelo’s eyes opened. His face remained cold, but a flicker of irritation was evident.

    “What’s she up to now?”

Luke found this question even more daunting than thest one. “Mrs. King… She’s currently having a meal with Damian.”

The mood in the car suddenly got even worse.

    It waste at night.

Renee, entering the master bedroom quietly, was unexpectedly greeted by the sight of the man asleep on the bed.

Lately, Marcelo had been either workingte in the study or returning to the room only after she had fallen asleep.

The fact that Marcelo was asleep before her made her feel uneasy.

She tiptoed to the bathroom to freshen up. But as soon as she got into bed, she was pinned down by a looming figure

Startled, Renee instinctively pushed against Marcelo’s chest and eximed in shock, “Aren’t you asleep?”

He could feel her body tense up. It took her a few seconds to rx, but her bodynguage was one of resistance.

She was pushing away his advances for intimacy.

“Renee, the woman I was with tonight is an actress from your film set.”

The master bedroom was dark, the only lighting from the moon through therge windows.

Renee could just discern his silhouette but couldn’t see his expression.

    “I’m aware,” She replied honestly.

“Don’t you have anything to say?“Marcelo leaned in, resting one hand near her ear, asionally stroking her face with the thumb of his other hand.

Renee was unsure whether his touch felt more intimate or menacing.

Taking a moment to calm her breathing, she replied, “No, you’re free to choose your date.”

In the dim light, she noticed the expectant look in his eyes fade away.

“You…fuck!” Heughed at himself and stretched out t.

Renee, holding the sheet, gazed at the ceiling, listening to his steady breathing.

He seemed to have nothing more to say.

Seeing a photo of Marcelo with Nora had stir a flicker of jealousy in Renee, but it didn’tst long. Compared to Vivian, Nora seemed insignificant.

Moreover, Marcelo had referred to Nora as an actress from her crew, leading Renee to doubt if he even knew Nora’s real name.

This left Renee puzzled over the intent behind Marcelo’s words.

Was he trying to annoy her? Or was it just yful teasing?

Yet, it didn’t make sense. Vivian was clearly the more logical choice.

Renee was concerned about Sarah. The next day, she visited Sarah’s apartment to check on her, bringing food and medicine.

Sarah resided in a luxurious apartment with a river view in the city center. She had let Marvin stay in a spare room.

“It might be an infection from his wound. Marvin had a feverst night and hasn’t woken up even after taking fever medicines,” Sarah exined, looking exhausted from a sleepless night.

“Are you nning to keep him here?” Renee asked with uncertainty.

Sarah shook her head firmly and said, “No, I’ll ask him to leave once he’s better. I can’t live with a man I’m not dating or married to. It wouldn’t be right to keep him here.”

Unknown to them, behind the door of the spare room, Marviny in bed, eyes open, listening to their conversation.

That night, when Marcelo invited Damian for drinks, Damian was somewhat puzzled.

Damian and Marcelo, having only had a few drinks, were sitting across from each other, enveloped in an oddly tense atmosphere.

“Marcelo, is there…Is there something wrong?“Damian asked, feeling slightly awkward.

Marcelo reclined against the sofa and responded vaguely, “Something wrong? What do you think?”

He was asking why Damian felt that way.

Marcelo didn’t give a clear yes or no, as he was good at using psychological tactics and torturing others.
