Chapter 83 Unimportant person
The day before the shooting of “Peerless Grace,”
Renee arrived at the studio.
Stepping into the meeting room, she overheard a woman’s voice.
“Mr. Morris, I understand my experience might not warrant the role of assistant director of costuming, but Renee is even less qualified: She’s just a fresh graduate, barely a year out of school. How can she be ranked above me?”
Renee didn’t expect to bump into Alyssa here.
Charlie Morris, the director of clothing and makeup, was renowned for his expertise in ancient costume TV series. Nearing fifty, he radiated a pleasant demeanor.
“Hey! Renee, perfect timing!” Charlie, with his keen eyesight, spotted Renee immediately.
“Alyssa’s having a hard time epting you as the vice director. You better exin yourself!” Everyone’s attention shifted to Renee.
She recalled hearing people say Charlie could be quite stern despite his friendly facade.
“Alyssa, we’re both part of the Peerless Grace team now, moving from ssmates to colleagues,” Renee addressed her, though inwardly, she wasn’t thrilled about working with Alyssa. Given the small world of stylists, their paths crossing was inevitable.
After a polite greeting, Renee smoothly steered the conversation. “I overheard yourments. Yes, I’m younger and a recent graduate, but since my freshman year, I’ve worked on over ten major projects and earned many experiences. That includes three national ancient TV series I’ve won every major award in our field. Remember, I outperformed you for the KM Group’s stylist role. Do you have any doubts about my capabilities?”
Renee wore a confident smile as she gazed at Alyssa, her expression suggesting, “Do I even need to exin why I could lead?”
Alyssa, visibly upset, found no words to argue.
Charlie, having observed enough, intervened to ease the tension. “Alyssa, you’ve got no issues, right? Let’s get ready. We have a meeting in an hour.”
Before he left, Alyssa shot Renee a sharp look.
“You’re also named Renee?” A makeup artist approached quietly, whispering, “The one from the fireworks show two days ago…”
She wasn’t tall but incredibly adorable, with big, round eyes that added a touch of cuteness.
“It’s just a coincidence; our names are the same.“Renee looked serious. It was as if she was telling the truth.
“The same name?” The makeup artist’s gossip attempt was unsessful.
But she thought she had seen pictures of Renee at the park
She’d had to go check it out again.
She let out a disappointed sigh but quickly brightened up with a smile. “You’re truly stunning! The most beautiful woman I’ve ever met! I’m so fortunate to be working with you! Oh, I’m Susanna Todd, by the way!”
Renee nced at her badge and realized Susanna was part of her team.

Extending her hand, Renee greeted, “Hello, Susanna, it’s great to meet you!”
Wow! A handshake from such a beauty! This is amazing!” Excitement lit up Susanna’s face.
The clothing and makeup team had been in meetings all day, and the evening brought smaller team discussions. Throughout, Renee endured countless cold stares from Alyssa.
It waste when Renee got a call from Chad.
“Mrs. King, when are youing home?“Chad’s voice was low. “Mr. King has already returned!”
Damn it!
She hadpletely forgotten to tell Marcelo about her business trip!
“Um…” Nervously, Renee hesitated, “I’m on a business trip I’ll be back in about two weeks with the crew.”
That was her best guess for her return.
After hanging up, Marcelo’s stern face haunted her thoughts.
She hadn’tmunicated with him, but somehow, Renee felt his anger.
Thirty minutester, she dialed Marcelo’s number.
The call connected, but he remained silent.
“Hello?” Renee asked.
Silence followed.
Clutching the hotel’s bedsheet, Renee said,
“Marcelo, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. It just slipped my mind to tell you about it.This morning, I left in such a rush.”
Finally, Marcelo low, cold voice emerged. “I thought I was merely an unimportant person you can abandon whenever you want to.” His words implied disbelief that a wife would go on a trip without telling her husband.
Stunned by his usation, Renee was speechless for a moment.
“No.No.You’re important to me.I just forgot to tell you.I’ve joined Peerless Grace’s crew,” she exined. “Yourpany helped mend the job. I assumed you knew.” She continued, “Remember when I was about to have dinner with Sarah? I thought you were informed then. I can’t believe no one mentioned my new job to you. Also, you’re always so busy. I didn’t want to bother you.”
On the other end, she heard the flick of a lighter. He was likely smoking. His mood was visibly unpleasant.
“So, this is my fault, is it?“His voice was cold.
“I didn’t mean that!” Renee’s voice carried a hint of urgency. She had be skilled at gently persuading him.” Look, it’s not really your fault, I’m sorry.”
But deep down, she knew it was her fault.
She had been so used to doing everything on her own and never telling anyone her ns but now, she has to get used to sharing things with her husband.
Marcelo responded with silence, ending the call with a calmness that was unsettling.
Renee’s attempt at apologizing clearly failed.
Staring at the now silent phone, she felt a nagging contradiction within her.
Could he really let her off this easily?
He hadn’t even uttered a single harsh word.
This wasn’t like Marcelo at all.
It felt like the unsettling calm before a storm, a thought that made Renee shiver with anxiety.
“Congrattions! Let’s get rolling. The shoot officially begins now. Costume and makeup team, prepare for the photoshoot!”
After the filming ceremony wrapped up, the crew started taking pictures of the actors with makeup on.
Renee scanned the room for the lead actor and halted abruptly.
There stood Catherine.
Unaware of Renee’s presence,Catherine headed to a different dressing room.
Alyssa, assigned as Catherine’s makeup artist for the supporting actress role, saw this as a golden opportunity.
“Miss Hudson, what an unexpected encounter in this ce!” Alyssa remarked while applying Catherine’s makeup. Catherine opened her eyes, gave Alyssa a quick look, and said, “I don’t know you. Keep your distance.” Catherine liked to act sweet, publicly, but she was actually quite arrogant behind closed doors. Unfazed, Alyssa continued with a smile, “You must know Renee, right? Guess what? She’s here too.” “What did you just say?” Catherine’s voice lifted in surprise, garnering curious nces from others. Alyssa, pleased with herself, rified, “I mean, Renee’s working on Peerless Grace too. She’s even the vice director of the costume and makeup team.”
Vice director…
Renee, fresh out of college, hadnded the role of vice director in the clothing and makeup team of a majorpany. It was surprising, considering Catherine had spent years working her way up to her current status. Catherine’s fists clenched tightly to contain her anger, she resisted acting on impulse like before when she had insisted that thepany fire Renee.
This time, she turned to Alyssa with a scornful look. “You think you can use me to get at Renee? Really, do you think you’re worthy of that?”
Alyssa stood there, biting her lip, her face flushed with embarrassment.
If Catherine refused to ally with her, she would handle Renee on her own!
Meanwhile, Catherine had whispered to her assistant.
A few momentster, the assistant returned, leaning in to whisper, “Catherine, she just went into the bathroom.”

“Renee, you don’t even know your real parents or your real birth date. Do you really think you deserve a birthday celebration?”
In the bathroom, Renee was washing her hands when she saw Catherine’s reflection in the mirror. Catherine, dressed in an borate, ancient–style costume, stood a short distance away, arms folded.
Renee took a couple of paper towels, dried her hands, and faced Catherine. “I deserve it.And it’s none of your business.”
